Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 417: Chapter 86: Incendiary Smoke Grenade

”It’s probably the ninth day of survival.”

Ivan recalled the situation at that time: ”I encountered that elephant in a swamp, a fully grown male African elephant, very strong!”

”I immediately chose to detour, but to my surprise, that elephant was very hostile to me!”

Saying this, Ivan sat next to Vanessa’s hospital bed, holding her slightly pale hand.

The two were partners as well as lovers.

Vanessa was captivated by the story, urging Ivan to continue, but didn’t withdraw her hand.

Ivan then continued: ”The elephant left the swamp and started to chase me, but there was a dense forest surrounding the swamp, and since I fled in advance, the distance between us was quite far, so it didn’t catch up with me.”

”But just when I’d waited for half an hour in the dense forest, planning to continue forward after it left, this elephant actually blocked the dense forest and didn’t leave.”

At this point, Ivan was a bit frustrated: ”I don’t know why, anyway, it showed a strong hostility, and helplessly, I could only detour and walk from the other side of the dense forest.”

”I thought the matter would end here.”

”But on the twelfth day of survival, when I returned to the right path, I encountered this elephant again!”

Ivan speculated: ”I don’t know if it was always chasing me or just bad luck, coinciding with its migration route, anyway, it found me.”

”This time it was more aggressive, and I was annoyed at the time too.”

Speaking of this, Ivan said somewhat awkwardly: ”I took a bow and arrow and shot an arrow towards its eye, didn’t hit the eye, but injured it, this time it was like stirring up a hornet’s nest.”

Upon hearing this, Vanessa sneered.

”If your archery skills weaken by two-tenths and enhance your brain, you wouldn’t always lose to Feng Zhong!”

Ivan said nothing.

This time he indeed messed up.

”Continue!”

With permission, Ivan then said: ”Later, it was very simple, it chased, I ran, I kept fleeing to places with mountains and forests, detoured many routes, and after about three days, I finally completely shook it off, but I don’t know if I really did.”

Ivan said: ”Then I was eliminated.”

”Probably didn’t shake it off.”

Vanessa said: ”Elephants have a very strong sense of smell, it can keep tracking your scent, and elephants have excellent memory, their memory is the kind that stands alone in nature, many film and television works even portray elephants with this setting.”

”So, I feel that as long as you stop, this elephant will catch up with you!”

Ivan, hearing this, was indifferent: ”Then let it chase, anyway I’ve been eliminated, but... hehe, if this elephant encounters Feng Zhong and Chen Wen, that would be interesting!”

Ivan laughed somewhat strangely: ”It’s best if Feng Zhong runs into this elephant head-on, so he can experience my suffering!”

...

As for Chen Wen.

After returning to the camp, by the light of the bonfire, he began to make devices to guard against elephant attacks.

”As the largest creature on land, elephants generally have nothing they’re particularly afraid of.”

Chen Wen said, raising the item in his hand.

”But as beasts, they have an instinctive fear of flames and smoke, which is recorded in our Hua Country’s novel: Romance of the Three Kingdoms.”

”In the novel, during Zhuge Liang’s sixth capture of Meng Huo, Meng Huo invited the King of Wulu, who was skilled at controlling poisonous creatures and fierce beasts, including elephants. Facing elephants, Zhuge, with wisdom in hand, successfully used smoke and flames to disperse the King of Wulu’s elephants.”

Chen Wen said, pointing to the item in his hand: ”What I’m making now, this head-sized thing, is a very simple flame smoke device, I call it a burning smoke bomb.”

”The burning smoke bomb mainly uses flammable deadwood and dry grass, with many damp leaves placed in between, ultimately bound with a rope, so that once elephants appear near the camp, I’d immediately use open flame to ignite the burning smoke bomb.”

”As the burning smoke bomb ignites, the outer deadwood and dry grass will instantly burn, and when you throw it out, due to the rope tie, it won’t break apart after being thrown.”

”On the contrary, after being thrown out, the burning smoke bomb will continue to burn, and as the outer layer of deadwood and dry grass burns, the inner damp leaves will gradually ignite, releasing smoke.”

Talking alone can’t show it.

Chen Wen simply lit a burning smoke bomb.

As the flame and the outer layer of the burning smoke bomb made contact, bursts of orange flames instantly climbed onto the burning smoke bomb.

Chen Wen waited for a moment, letting the flames burn thoroughly, then tossed it to the open ground outside.

The burning smoke bomb drew a flame arc and landed on the open ground.

As the flame spread inside, soon, bursts of smoke spread out.

”This is the effect of the burning smoke bomb, it can last for about a few minutes, looks pretty good, right?”

Behind the screen, quite a few people saw this scene and couldn’t help but click their tongues in admiration.

Is this considered a simple smoke bomb?

But this thing, while useful, has a big drawback, which is that it’s easy to extinguish at the moment it’s thrown.

Once extinguished, it’s useless.

However, overall, Chen Wen’s design still impressed everyone.

Before bed, Chen Wen used the materials at hand to remake three burning smoke bombs.

These three burning smoke bombs were placed in the most convenient spot within the shelter to grab, in preparation for an attack.

After finishing these tasks, Chen Wen started to rest.

...

One night passed.

After spending a night in the new shelter, Chen Wen woke up, feeling a bit confused.

He gently patted his face to dispel the confusion.

”Today, I’ll do some simple decoration and improvement on the shelter, to make the shelter more suitable for living.”

Chen Wen said his plan, and in his mind, thought: Also, I should clear the name of Boss Leopard.

Always keeping Boss Leopard in the dark, although Boss Leopard doesn’t mind such things, Chen Wen still felt a bit guilty.

Getting up, after completing the camp maintenance work.

Chen Wen proceeded to improve the shelter.

The first thing is the few weak points of the shelter.

He used ropes to dismantle the fixed ropes at weak points, replaced them with new ropes, and swapped out some of the branches used to build the shelter.

After some improvements, the shelter, whether in appearance or actual stability.

It received a significant boost.

Looking at the refreshed shelter, Chen Wen’s mood improved a lot.

Next was the decoration.

Yoshikawa Feng set the campfire below the side of the shelter when setting up the shelter.

This location was okay but didn’t quite fit Chen Wen’s preference.

Therefore, Chen Wen used soil to build a stove inside the shelter and moved the campfire onto it.
