Chapter 1017: Chapter 19: Reinforcements

The headless body of Raikage collapsed to the ground. Su Xiao took a glance and then ignored it. He walked to Raikage’s head and picked it up from the ground.

Raikage’s hair stood on end, his face showed no unwillingness. Today he lost, not due to intrigue or a sneak attack, but by being decapitated by Su Xiao fair and square. It was a loss due to inferior skills, nothing to be resentful about.

Su Xiao held Raikage’s head, his gaze turned to Bubu Wang at a higher place.

Bubu Wang leaped down from the height. Not long after, a roaring sound came from the passage leading from the first floor to the second floor. It was A Mu returning.

At the moment, A Mu was covered in blood, with several poisonous thousand stems lodged in its body. Thousand stems are a type of metal needle about twenty centimeters long.

Behind A Mu, a male and a female ninja were in pursuit. Near these two ninjas were a few mechanical puppets, among which the female ninja held a half-human height metal fan.

Behind them was also a young ninja with red hair, carrying a large earthen gourd.

It was Kazekage Gaara and his two guards, Kankuro and Temari, arriving.

In fact, Gaara had already come to support earlier, but unfortunately, they were stalled by A Mu, unable to support Raikage in time.

The three rushed down the stone steps. Upon witnessing the scene before them, female ninja Temari’s pupils shrank, memories flashed in her mind.

A man grabbed her by the back of the neck, forcing her to plead for help to Gaara, who was in the midst of battle. It was because she was captured that Gaara bore the brunt of the enemy’s attacks to save her, allowing the enemy to seize the opportunity to injure and eventually capture him.

”Akatsuki member... Bai Ye.”

Temari almost gritted her teeth as she uttered these words.

”That is...”

Beside her, Kankuro noticed the head in Su Xiao’s hand, his breathing grew heavy. That was Raikage’s head.

”We’re too late.”

Fine sand drifted out of the gourd formed by sand behind Gaara. The fact that Raikage had died in battle was unchangeable, and now it was more important to keep Su Xiao here.

”Kankuro, Temari, you handle that summoning beast.”

Gaara mistakened A Mu for a summoning beast.

”Kazekage-sama, that scoundrel...”

Although Kankuro was Gaara’s older brother, in front of outsiders, he would address Gaara as Kazekage-sama.

”I’ll handle him.”

”Yes.”

Kankuro and Temari approached A Mu. At this moment, Obito, who had been observing, leaped down from a high place.

”Reinforcements, huh?”

Kankuro’s eyes narrowed.

”Bai Ye, this is an opportunity.”

Obito’s meaning was clear, for Su Xiao to kill Gaara. The combat strength Su Xiao displayed was not merely surprising to Obito, but delightful. To kill Raikage head-on was not something an ordinary person could achieve, and to Obito, all Akatsuki members were just chess pieces for fulfilling his plans.

”It is indeed an opportunity, I have high hopes for you.”

Su Xiao turned his head to look at Obito. Hearing this from Su Xiao, the expression under Obito’s mask darkened.

”What I mean is...”

”Do you think I’m a bottomless pit of stamina?”

”...”

Obito didn’t speak. He was eager to kill a few more shadows. That way, the ninja villages would have to select new shadows, giving him time to accumulate combat strength.

Su Xiao just fought Raikage. Setting aside the consumption of stamina and mana, the fierce kick Raikage landed on his leg earlier was still stinging and occasionally numbing. Fortunately, no bones were broken.

If it wasn’t for Su Xiao’s endurance, comparable to a third-tier main tank, an ordinary melee contractor would have definitely suffered broken bones and torn muscles if they had endured Raikage’s kick head-on. Raikage’s kick was too fast, so fast that Su Xiao couldn’t activate the counter shield in time. Su Xiao instinctively bent his left leg to block Raikage’s kick.

The long knife in Su Xiao’s hand returned to its sheath, indicating he had no intention to continue fighting, and Obito understood Su Xiao’s meaning.

”Uchiha Sasuke has already gone after other shadows, does it really not matter?”

There was a hint of amusement in Obito’s tone. It caused him no pressure to betray Sasuke to the enemy.

”Hmm?”

Gaara, who was about to strike, hesitated. He wasn’t sure about the truth of this statement. Kankuro came up and whispered something to Gaara.

”The Flame of Amaterasu, Uchiha Itachi’s pupil skill.”

Gaara looked at the corpses of samurai around him. Black flames were burning on them, left behind by Sasuke.

While Su Xiao was battling Raikage, Obito wasn’t just watching the spectacle. He used Taijutsu and Fire Style to take out the samurai on the first floor. These two abilities wouldn’t reveal his identity; after all, Uchiha Madara was also known for his strong Taijutsu and Fire Style.

”Retreat.”

Gaara retreated without hesitation. Due to his unfortunate childhood and his experience as a Jinchuriki, now being Kazekage, Gaara wouldn’t be swayed by personal hatred.

Gaara and his group of three unhesitatingly moved towards the top of the tower. Obito chuckled softly.

”I’ll head to Sasuke first. Against four shadows, it’s still too early for him with his current strength.”

The magatama in Obito’s Sharingan rotated, and a spatial vortex appeared.

”Don’t forget to have Bai Jue use the Spore Technique to lock onto Mei Terumī and ’deliver this’ to Danzo.”

Su Xiao tossed Raikage’s head to Obito. Obito immediately understood the implication.

”No problem at all.”

Obito vanished. He would definitely deliver Raikage’s head to Danzo, and do it in front of the other shadows.

This wasn’t a threat, but a lure. In the Naruto World, some powerful illusionary jutsu-type ninjas can invade enemies’ brains with chakra to obtain intelligence from their memories.

Of course, this only works on the living. To retrieve a deceased person’s memory, certain conditions must be met: possess the deceased’s complete brain, have professional technological ninja devices, and several competent illusionary jutsu-type ninjas.

Undoubtedly, Konoha possesses professional technological ninja devices and powerful illusionary jutsu-type ninjas. If Konoha obtains Raikage’s complete brain, the possible outcome is unimaginable.

Raikage Ai, as the shadow of Hidden Cloud Village, knows all the secrets of Hidden Cloud Village: personnel, resources, secret intelligence, relationships within the ninja clan, detailed information on numerous ninjas, external defense measures of Hidden Cloud Village...

The wealth of information Raikage Ai knows is immense, almost making it impossible for Danzo to refuse this head. If Konoha fully acquires Raikage Ai’s memory, they have over seventy percent certainty of wiping out Hidden Cloud Village.

Note, it’s wiping out the village, not just defeating Hidden Cloud Village. It could very well lead to a situation where Konoha settles in the Land of Thunder, gaining support from two great nations, an almost unprecedented event.

Fire Shadows endowed with great strength but lacking in political intelligence might not achieve this, but with the right opportunity, Danzo might. It’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Do the ninja villages fight each other because of hatred? Don’t make me laugh. Looking at the history of the ninja world, when has a ninja war not been about seizing resources? Hatred is merely a fig leaf.

The reason Su Xiao acts this way is due to his main task. His main task is to provoke a war in the ninja world. As for the outcome of the war, it doesn’t concern him. As long as the war starts, he succeeds. Therefore, he needs to take advantage of being an Akatsuki member to do something shocking enough to unite the Five Great Shinobi Villages against Obito’s side.

Obito’s goal is the Moon Eye Plan, to have everyone live under an illusion, while Su Xiao’s goal is to incite a ninja world war. If one were to compare whose plan is more insane, it would undoubtedly be Su Xiao’s.

Obito’s plan is vast, but he has to meticulously perfect it step by step, which is exhausting. Su Xiao is different; he only needs to provoke a war, and the victor or the vanquished is irrelevant to him.

If Obito knew Su Xiao’s thoughts, he would be the first to try and kill Su Xiao because Su Xiao isn’t concerned whether Obito has already amassed enough forces to wage war with the Five Great Shinobi Villages.

Su Xiao is very well-disguised. Before, when Obito was declaring war on the Five Shadows, he ’kindly’ reminded Obito that it was ’too soon’ to start a war.

On the first floor, only Su Xiao, Bubu Wang, and A Mu were left. Su Xiao was contemplating one thing: on such an important occasion as the Five Shadows Summit, where were all the other contractors? It should be noted, aside from Su Xiao, there were 157 contractors in the Naruto World.
