System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

In the emergency department of Long County People’s Hospital, there are medical, surgical, and pediatric sections. The pediatric emergency section is located on the pediatrics outpatient floor.

Apart from that, there is the resuscitation area, observation area, and the comprehensive ward for complex and critically ill patients.

The observation area rooms are divided into internal and surgical, with the operating room and surgical team overseen by Lin Qianlong, while the ward for complex and critically ill patients is managed by Huang Haibo.

Thus, Huang Haibo’s director office is located within the complex and critically ill ward.

Upon opening the door, Tong Yuan’an saw that Huang Haibo’s office was neat and orderly, with bookshelves aligned and potted plants in a row.

On the desk, thick documents, reading notes, and pens of red, blue, yellow, and black were all arranged neatly.

”Professor Tong, although I don’t smoke, feel free to do so; I don’t mind.”

”Would you like some water or tea? I’ve just received a batch of Longjing tea,” Huang Haibo said politely.

Tong Yuan’an smiled and said, ”Director Huang, I just arrived this morning, and your unexpected visit caught me a bit off guard, so I might have spoken a bit sharply. I hope you understand.”

”Mainly because this holiday, though said to be a vacation, has almost become a phone receptor for your hospital.”

”Damn near everyone, known or unknown, has called me; I’m just short of reporting your hospital for collective harassment.”

The research topic, valued even by Xiangya Hospital, when placed in Long County, would definitely attract attention from anyone with insight.

Everyone thought they could get a head start, and Tong Yuan’an likely received many calls.

Huang Haibo said, ”Professor Tong, I understand.”

”Then let’s start by enjoying a pot of tea.”

”By the way, Professor Tong, you probably haven’t had lunch yet? I’ll order a couple of lunch boxes; I haven’t eaten either.” Huang Haibo was testing how long Tong Yuan’an could stay.

If it were only to clear up this misunderstanding, Tong Yuan’an should be leaving immediately.

”Director Huang, I’m not one to stand on ceremony. My skin is as thick as it looks,” Tong Yuan’an replied with a laugh.

”It’s better to be straightforward, Professor Tong.”

While boiling water, Huang Haibo said, ”There’s something I need to explain to you, Professor Tong. Over the National Day holiday, our department received a case of a severed limb. Seeing the surgery application form for limb replantation surgery, I directly reported it.”

Tong Yuan’an was just about to sit down, almost landing on the ground.

The chair was pushed back a fair distance, emitting a loud creak.

He couldn’t understand what Huang Haibo meant by this.

During the holiday, Tong Yuan’an also knew about Dr. Lu Cheng’s surgery being reported; someone had tipped him off.

Though no call was made, messages were sent.

Tong Yuan’an suspected it might be Peng Haibo, but had not thought it was another Haibo. It was a sixty-six-point-six percent possibility...

”I mentioned this to Director Lin Qianlong, but he didn’t seem to care. Rather than wait for the patient’s family to cause trouble, it’s better to investigate on our own,” Huang Haibo replied very directly.

Tong Yuan’an’s expression changed dramatically: ”Director Huang, have you considered what would have happened if, back then, Dr. Lu Cheng hadn’t corrected the surgical records?”

”Unauthorized surgery, suspension of surgical privileges, delayed promotion...”

”He’s an attending physician, performing limb replantation? Who gave him such authority?”

Huang Haibo continued, ”I, of course, didn’t speak directly to Dr. Lu Cheng about this, but I informed Lin Qianlong, who as director has the responsibility to relay this to Lu Cheng.”

”However, Dr. Lu Cheng is rather cautious.”

”Finding unauthorized surgery through self-inspection only suspends surgical privileges. Unauthorized ungraded surgery in medical disputes can’t be resolved simply by suspending surgical privileges.”

Huang Haibo’s tone was calm, as if this matter wasn’t an unspeakable secret.

Tong Yuan’an was speechless, as what Huang Haibo stated were facts.

However, before his vacation, he had already explained this surgery in detail to Dr. Lu Cheng, who had prepared well and luckily wasn’t punished.

Tong Yuan’an laughed and replied, ”Director Huang, you went through all this, and now you’re asking for help with a project? Isn’t that a bit inappropriate?”

”This project belongs to Dr. Lu Cheng, and I’m not intentionally promoting him.”

Huang Haibo, unreservedly, said, ”I even thought it was Dr. Lu Cheng deliberately trying to disengage to focus on the project.”

Tong Yuan’an was slightly taken aback, not expecting Huang Haibo to think this way.

Your way of arguing is surprisingly refreshing!

Tong Yuan’an asked again, ”Director Huang, have you discovered many other violations by Dr. Lu Cheng?”

”Indeed, quite a few. For example, many medical orders aren’t followed according to guidelines.”

”However, they are of little consequence. Relatively unconventional is performing spleen preservation surgery and gallbladder preservation surgery in the department.”

”He has the skills but not the qualification to perform gallbladder preservation surgery. Sometimes, not even an associate senior is present during operations, yet he went ahead.”

”Of course, these can be explained, as they are emergency measures,” Huang Haibo replied calmly.

Tong Yuan’an’s expression turned frosty: ”Director Huang, you sure plan recklessly.”

Since these issues were discovered by Huang Haibo, they could potentially be used as leverage against Lu Cheng.

”Professor Tong, don’t say that. Procedural justice is the best protection for both patients and doctors.”

”I haven’t done anything more than necessary.”

Huang Haibo continued, ”In fact, I’m also trying to help Lu Cheng solve some problems. After all, he’s a young lad from our department.”

Tong Yuan’an sneered, ”You reported him, and you say it’s to help solve his problems?”
