System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Persuading patients to lose weight earns skill points?

After Lu Cheng returned, he carefully stared at the panel for a while, then gave up on the strange thoughts in his mind.

What can be confirmed is that this happens only after successfully persuading the patient.

Lu Cheng has encountered quite a few obese and smoking patients, and has also advised them, but this is the first time he persuaded someone successfully.

Lu Cheng’s WeChat messages flashed.

Zhang Tiesheng: ”Lu Cheng, what are we having for lunch? Have you asked Professor Chen?”

”Teacher Chen said anything is fine, I haven’t decided yet either. Brother Zhang, do you have any suggestions?” Lu Cheng replied.

”If you haven’t decided, I’ll arrange it, just to prevent Brother Zeng’s tenant from starving to death and then not being able to collect the rent.” Zhang Tiesheng joked.

Lu Cheng turned around and looked in the direction of Tian Zhuang.

Tian Zhuang was diligently writing medical records, carefully matching each one with the doctor’s orders.

Tian Zhuang is not good at communication, but he is earnest and reliable at work, not very street-smart, but meticulous.

So honest that even his family bullies him...

”Brother Zhang, let me handle it today...” Lu Cheng insisted.

”You’ll have your turn to treat us to a meal in a few days.”

”Don’t bother competing with Brother Zhang over this small expense. It’s settled, I’ll arrange it.” Zhang Tiesheng replied somewhat dominantly.

”Then I won’t be polite with you, Brother Zhang.” Lu Cheng said.

”Hey, we’re like brothers, what’s there to be polite about?” Zhang Tiesheng replied generously.

Just then, Tian Zhuang had about finished writing the medical records. He walked over with his notebook, nervously asking, ”Brother Lu, would you like...to drink...something?”

Every word from Tian Zhuang came out in stops and starts, as if he were a clueless kid just learning the ways of the world.

But in Lu Cheng’s view, it was a good sign that Tian Zhuang could take this step forward.

”I’m okay with anything, are you treating?” Lu Cheng asked with a smile.

Tian Zhuang nodded, smiling, ”Yes, Brother Lu, it’s my treat.”

”Tian Zhuang, why do you want to learn some skills?” Lu Cheng asked.

Tian Zhuang chuckled, his dark skin radiated sincerity: ”Having skills is great; you can earn more money, and others will respect you.”

”Brother Lu, you are different from them.” Tian Zhuang spoke with sincere tone, looking quite simple and honest.

Just after Tian Zhuang finished speaking, his phone rang.

Seeing who it was, his eyebrows instinctively furrowed, and he took a few steps away from Lu Cheng to answer the call.

When Tian Zhuang took out his phone, Lu Cheng noticed the contact was labeled ”Big Brother.”

Seconds later, Tian Zhuang suddenly lowered his voice and snapped furiously, ”I just want to ask if you have a death wish?!”

”What does you not having money for treatment have to do with me?”

”Second Brother going inside, what does that have to do with me? You’re the ones who smashed the door, I didn’t call you to do it.” Tian Zhuang scolded in a low voice.

”Don’t talk to me about all this. If you keep pushing me, I’ll just ask if you want to die!”

Hearing these words made Lu Cheng shiver all over.

Lu Cheng didn’t know why things had escalated among Tian Zhuang and his brothers, but if it could push someone as honest as Tian Zhuang to this point, it was clear his explosive outburst would be unstoppable.

When Tian Zhuang returned, Lu Cheng instinctively kept an extra space between them: ”Uh, Brother Zhuang, never mind the milk tea. You just carry on.”

Tian Zhuang said, ”Brother Lu, it’s okay... It’s my own issue, I can handle it myself.”

”My fourth brother said, if I want peace, I need to be tough with those two older brothers.”

”Otherwise, I’ll never find peace.”

”My fourth brother is really good to me, he wouldn’t lie to me.”

Lu Cheng couldn’t be sure if Tian Zhuang’s fourth brother was being truthful, but he understood that confronting bullies head-on was sometimes necessary.

Tian Zhuang’s brothers were really something, going to smash Zeng Huanqi’s door – out looking for trouble?

Would someone like Zeng Huanqi put up with them?

...

Zhang Tiesheng was on duty in the consultation room, bringing a packed clay pot rice dish to eat.

Tian Zhuang sat alone in the duty room, still organizing the discharge records.

Outside the window of the doctors’ lounge, there was a light drizzle, and inside, only Lu Cheng and Chen Song remained, each sitting on a lower bunk, focused on eating.

”Lu Cheng, how much do you know about Zhang Tiesheng? I never paid much attention before, but recently it seems like he’s got something going on?”

Chen Song must have been really bored and thus asked.

”I heard from Zeng Huanqi that Zhang Tiesheng was once a promising student bound for Qingbei, but he got sidetracked by love…” Lu Cheng said, relaying the version of the story he’d heard to Chen Song.

Puppy love, ’mutual affection’, ’fractured bones’, ’no retakes’, all sorts of ”buffs” had been stacked.

Chen Song’s interest piqued, ”And Zhang Tiesheng’s wife now?”

Lu Cheng maintained the rosy part of the story, ”I only know Brother Zhang was Sister-in-law’s first love.”

Zhang Tiesheng was already thirty-six, certainly married, but his wife wasn’t the passionate young girl anymore.

The rest of the story wouldn’t be something Lu Cheng could find out.

But during college, if one didn’t study hard, wanting to progress further in clinical medicine wasn’t likely.

”It’s a pity…” Chen Song sighed.

”Trying to catch up on studies now, age is a factor, both in energy and the dexterity of one’s hands, compared to youth.”

”Still, the thought of studying is better than not studying at all.”

Lu Cheng nodded, ”That’s true, I’ve also noticed that my memory isn’t as good as it used to be.”

”But it’s not too late; Brother Zhang has some foundation already, learning Spleen Preservation Surgery and Gallbladder Preservation Surgery is just a matter of time.”
