System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Although I don’t know how Mu Leng plans to proceed, suddenly going into the operating room for surgery, I should report to him afterwards.

Now, He Shanshan and the family members are gathered outside the ICU, and Lu Cheng first sent a message to his father and Uncle Mu Leng.

Upon learning that there weren’t many people outside the ICU, Lu Cheng changed into casual clothes to go there.

When Lu Cheng arrived, there indeed weren’t many people.

Mu Leng, Lu Nanjia, He Shanshan, Wei Ying’s brother Wei Hai, and Director Du Qiang from the General Surgery Department at Long County People’s Hospital.

As Lu Cheng approached and greeted them, Director Du quickly extended his right hand: ”Dr. Lu, you’ve worked really hard, thank you.”

Lu Cheng didn’t quite understand the relationship between Director Du Qiang from General Surgery and the Wei Ying family: ”Director Du, it’s what I should do.”

”Uncle Wei and my dad are friends. I had actually finished work for the day but rushed over upon hearing the news. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known about this incident.”

”Director Du, I’m really sorry. After assessing the patient’s condition was urgent, we immediately called Professor Chen, but unfortunately caused your General Surgery department to make an extra trip.”

Lu Cheng took responsibility for both compliments and criticisms upon himself.

Understanding Lu Cheng’s current position, Du Qiang explained: ”Dr. Lu, being able to bring Professor Chen Song from Xiangya Second Hospital for my brother-in-law is a significant favor for our family.”

”I doubt I could have managed to bring Professor Chen!~”

”Professor Chen was already on stage when this happened, so how could we dare to intervene?”

Du Qiang then turned to He Shanshan: ”Sister-in-law, there’s this connection between Xiao Lu and my brother, why didn’t you mention it earlier? It would have saved me a lot of effort.”

”But the key is, all the effort was pointless.”

Long County is small, and initially, Du Qiang had no connection with Lu Cheng, but by twisting and turning, a relationship was established.

Du Qiang’s wife is Wei Ying’s sister, and Wei Ying has a decent relationship with Lu Nanjia...

After mutual introductions, Du Qiang comforted: ”Sister-in-law, don’t blame Xiao Lu. His position is as a doctor.”

”If my brother survived the operating room, he’s essentially back to life. Just wait for him to be out of ICU next.”

”Dr. Lu, come on, let’s go eat something together—it’s all fate... Cold Brother, join us too…” Du Qiang very kindly invited Lu Cheng and Lu Nanjia.

Mu Leng declined as a representative: ”Let’s leave it for another time, Director Du, I have some pressing matters today.”

Lu Cheng replied: ”Director Du, I also have some things to attend to. Professor Chen has already left the operating room…”

Du Qiang immediately followed up: ”Xiao Lu, could you possibly ask Professor Chen to join us for a meal?”

Lu Cheng only used Professor Chen Song as an excuse and didn’t expect Du Qiang to press forward.

Lu Cheng checked the reply from Professor Chen on his phone, then said: ”Director Du, Professor Chen replied himself that he’s already dining with friends, I couldn’t arrange it.”

”Apparently, he’s dining with Director Lin from our emergency department. Perhaps you could call Director Lin?”

Du Qiang glanced at Lu Cheng up and down and understood Lu Cheng’s meaning: ”Let’s talk about it later. Dr. Lu, are you sure you don’t want to eat something?”

”We’re all in surgery, which is both technical and physical work. It’s important to replenish energy.” Du Qiang appeared to be very close to Wei Ying.

Lu Cheng shook his head: ”Thanks, Director Du, but I ate quite a lot earlier tonight.”

After Lu Cheng, Mu Leng, and Lu Nanjia left, Du Qiang went aside to make a phone call.

…

”Well, for someone who’s Wei Ying’s brother-in-law, when you first called him, he said he was busy in surgery, isn’t that quite insincere.” Mu Leng commented while driving away with Lu Cheng and Lu Nanjia in the car.

”Xiao Lu, make sure to keep a good distance from people like him in the future.”

Lu Nanjia looked over at Mu Leng and enthusiastically asked: ”Old Mu, when did you come back? Why didn’t you let me know?”

”Not drinking together, huh!~”

Mu Leng replied in an annoyed but relaxed manner: ”Don’t bring up drinks, you’re stingy and won’t part with quality liquor.”

”How is corn liquor not quality? It’s all handcrafted; don’t ask me to bring more next time.” Lu Nanjia argued, wide-eyed.

”Do you only have corn liquor at home?”

Mu Leng, sitting in the front passenger seat, glanced sideways at Lu Nanjia: ”You really know how to live frugally?”

Then rolling his eyes: ”Why are you so shameless?”

Lu Nanjia handed a cigarette to Mu Leng: ”Eating and drinking is what matters; appearances, don’t matter.”

”Other liquors don’t taste as good as corn liquor.”

Then lit up to smoke.

”What kind of drink do you want?” Lu Nanjia, although simple-minded, understood Mu Leng’s hint.

Mu Leng, not holding back, smoked as he sparked the lighter: ”At least Maotai or Wuliangye special offerings; don’t be so stingy.”

After finishing, Mu Leng asked Lu Cheng:

”Xiao Lu, are you sure you won’t ask Professor Chen again?”

”Even though he refused, it doesn’t hurt to ask again. Courtesy doesn’t offend.”

Mu Leng seemed keen to teach Lu Cheng about interpersonal relations.

Lu Cheng replied: ”Professor Chen arrived while dining, and he already had plans!~”

”I interrupted his gathering by calling him over; he probably went back to apologize afterward. If I invite him again, that would be inconsiderate.”

”What about the people dining with Professor Chen?”

”Uncle Mu, it’s fine.”

Mu Leng nodded, approving Lu Cheng’s viewpoint and reasoning: ”That’s true. Let’s invite Professor Chen for dinner another time.”
