System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Why not drive the car back? Taking a taxi is so troublesome,” Mu Leng said directly, holding a cigarette in his hand in the Integrity Plaza underground parking lot.

”No, Uncle, you need the car tomorrow. My dad and I can just take a taxi back.”

”I don’t have to work tomorrow, no rush,” Lu Cheng waved his hand, declining politely.

Lu Nanjia also said, ”With Elder Mu here, it’s inconvenient for you not to have a car. We’ll just catch a cab outside.”

”Old Wei should wake up by tomorrow noon, we’ll meet at the hospital then.”

”Or you can bring Xiao Shu and your sister-in-law over for a meal at our place,” Lu Nanjia invited.

Mu Leng replied, ”XiaoYue will be going to the countryside with my dad tomorrow, so they shouldn’t be coming over. Maybe in a few days... there’s still time...”

”Is Uncle going back to his hometown?” Lu Nanjia’s gaze flickered for a moment.

”He... he just wants to keep things fair. I don’t really care how he uses the retirement money I gave him.”

Mu Leng looked at Lu Cheng, ”Xiao Lu is still here, let’s not bring up these trivial matters. No need to make a joke of it.”

”Then I won’t stand on ceremony with you guys either. Go home and rest early. Xiao Lu has been really busy today too.”

Mu Leng patted Lu Cheng’s shoulder, ”You’ve worked hard, Xiao Lu. This favor, Uncle will remember.”

Lu Cheng replied tactfully, ”Uncle, it doesn’t matter if you remember or not, I should be doing this.”

Not wanting to bring up the messy family affairs, Mu Leng turned and entered the elevator shaft.

As Lu Cheng and Lu Nanjia walked out of the underground parking lot together, Lu Cheng asked Lu Nanjia about what was going on with Mu Leng’s family.

After a brief inquiry, Lu Cheng learned that when Mu Leng first started his business, he encountered a financial crisis!

Mu Leng’s brother had also invested some money. They agreed it was an investment, but seeing Mu Leng struggling, his brother changed his tune to call it a loan, kicking him when he was down and demanding repayment.

Even without a contract, the money indeed came from his brother, and after many arguments, Mu Leng just couldn’t handle it.

During that difficult time, Mu Leng turned to Lu Nanjia for a loan, and without hesitation, Lu Nanjia lent him the money.

Of course, later on, Mu Leng termed the money as an investment from Lu Nanjia, but honest and straightforward Lu Nanjia didn’t agree.

How could the relationship between the two families survive when his own brother stepped on him like that during tough times?

After Mu Leng became successful, did he just cut ties?

But later, the two brothers ended up in conflict again. Mu Leng’s brother started talking about partnerships and investments, but Mu Leng wasn’t a child of three...

”Dad, you lost out, huh, I should’ve been a rich second generation,” Lu Cheng quipped.

Lu Nanjia glared at Lu Cheng, ”Ill-gotten wealth cannot be taken. It was agreed to be a loan, so it’s a loan. Investing could mean losing money.”

”Mu Leng even paid me interest, I made some too. Money that shouldn’t be taken isn’t righteous money. That’s something that should be clear.”

”Even though our family isn’t well-off, we can’t do such unreasonable things.”

The honest nature of Lu Nanjia has always been his asset, and due to this honesty, his friendship with Mu Leng has become rock solid over time.

”Dad, you’re much smarter than mom,” Lu Cheng suddenly gave a thumbs up.

Lu Nanjia really possessed great wisdom behind a façade of simplicity. Generally, people like him, no matter how shrewd the others might be, wouldn’t expend their efforts on someone so genuine.

Even the most scheming individuals need a few true friends.

”What smart? It’s just the simplest truth, returning a true heart may not always get you another true heart, but only a true heart can exchange for a true heart.”

”Aren’t you the same?”

”You little rascal...” Lu Nanjia muttered, but thinking these words were not good for Mu Nanshu’s reputation, he didn’t continue further.

Though it was easy to catch a cab, it was a bit pricey. After ten o’clock in Long County, taxis hiked up their fares. A ride less than three kilometers that would normally cost ten yuan was hiked up to fifteen.

But given the late hour, Lu Cheng had no choice but to pay.

Right before reaching home, Lu Nanjia suddenly asked, ”What have you decided between you and Mu Nanshu now?”

”If it doesn’t work out, settle it earlier. Both of you aren’t young anymore.”

”If there’s still a chance, it might be a bit tricky. Having Xiao Shu come to our family now would be like marrying down.”

Lu Cheng glanced at Lu Nanjia and replied, ”We haven’t discussed these matters yet. Xiao Shu and I just crossed paths again.”

”Let’s focus on the project we have to work on together first. Uncle Mu never mentioned anything about marrying down in our call!”

”We don’t have to be so strong-willed, do we?”

”There’s a gap in family background, but people aren’t that different.”

Lu Nanjia said, ”Mu Leng definitely wouldn’t put it that way. He’s not that kind of person. But you should be aware.”

Lu Cheng nodded, agreeing to it...

What should have been a good night’s rest for Lu Cheng was interrupted by a phone call around three in the morning!

This time, the call wasn’t from Du Qiang, but from Wei Ying’s wife, He Shanshan.

Lu Cheng hadn’t slept for long, glanced at the still dark window, and instinctively frowned.

But considering that Aunt He was still watching over Uncle Wei, he rubbed his eyes before answering, ”Aunt He, what’s up? Has Uncle Wei woken up?”

Lu Cheng feared Wei Ying might have passed away in the ICU.

”Xiao Lu...” He Shanshan hesitated, but another unfamiliar woman’s voice chimed in, ”Say it, sister.”

He Shanshan then said, ”Xiao Lu, your Uncle Wei hasn’t woken up yet. The doctors in the ICU just came out and said that his vitals are still stable. There’s only a slight increase in lactic acid, but it shouldn’t be a major issue.”
