System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

The drizzle stopped. After wiping off the water stains on the electric bike, Lu Cheng stood still to make a call.

”Mom, I won’t be home for dinner today!” At 5:35 in the afternoon, Lu Cheng left work on time and called Tian Hui to report back.

However, what Lu Cheng didn’t expect was that Professor Chen Song, who had already left, deliberately retraced a few hundred steps and came closer to observe him.

His gaze seemed to regard him like something peculiar.

Seeing Lu Cheng was making a call, he didn’t speak, just pointed at Lu Cheng with his index finger, and then, rocking back and forth, he swayed away.

After all, the old Lu Cheng wouldn’t leave the hospital before midnight, but now he left promptly at 5:30.

It must be said that love can captivate both the spirit and the flesh, was Chen Song’s current thought...

Lu Cheng was thick-skinned enough, not even blushing, as he hung up Tian Hui’s call and rode his little electric scooter to pick up Mu Nanshu.

At 6:10 p.m., Lu Cheng saw Mu Nanshu at the entrance of the county bus station. After signaling her to sit on the back and put on a helmet, he asked, ”Didn’t you say you were returning tomorrow?”

”Ah, I thought Grandpa was still at our old home. I ran back there only to find out Grandpa went to Ji City to visit friends, it was a wasted trip.”

”Visiting other relatives for a round is enough, no need to stay overnight.”

After Mu Nanshu finished speaking, she sneaked a laugh, ”Half an hour after I called Grandpa, Dad called, saying he got scolded terribly by Grandpa.”

”Tonight, I guess my parents and Grandpa will come home.”

Lu Cheng said, ”Then Uncle Mu must have really been scolded harshly.”

Mu Nanshu had been abroad for so many years and was the only granddaughter. She returned to Long County specifically to see Grandpa, but he wasn’t home. The problem was that Mu Leng hadn’t mentioned this to the old man at all.

Mu Nanshu’s father, Mu Leng, has three siblings, and in the grandchildren generation other than Mu Nanshu, they are all boys, which makes her quite precious.

”What about your uncle? Didn’t he ask you to stay the night?” Lu Cheng asked.

Mu Nanshu adjusted her sitting posture slightly backward, but when there wasn’t much space left, she blushed a little and wrapped her arms around Lu Cheng’s sturdy shoulders.

”Don’t bring up my uncle, he wanted me to stay, even saying he wanted to set me up on a blind date.”

”The blind date is with my aunt’s nephew.” Mu Nanshu’s tone became slightly annoyed.

”Is it the one who got into civil service in Ji City?” Lu Cheng asked.

Mu Nanshu replied, ”Yes!~ What’s annoying is that he always compares himself to you.”

”What a pain...” Mu Nanshu’s tone suddenly turned particularly sharp.

Lu Cheng said, ”Maybe in their eyes, I’m doing much worse than her nephew now, such direct comparison is quite normal.”

”The key is, you’re just too popular.” Lu Cheng joked.

Mu Nanshu said, ”Not to mention he’s my aunt’s nephew, as if being a small stockholder in Ji City is hard to find.”

”Really, where does that confidence come from...”

”Mad that much?” Lu Cheng could tell Mu Nanshu was in a particularly bad mood.

Mu Nanshu didn’t respond anymore; she just let her hands slide down completely, embracing Lu Cheng’s waist, lost in her own thoughts.

Lu Cheng didn’t ask further.

Lu Cheng originally planned to take Mu Nanshu out for dinner, but when passing by the food market, Mu Nanshu suggested Lu Cheng go buy groceries, and he followed suit.

A pound of beef ribs, a chicken, half a pound of eggplant, a head of cabbage, plus some side dishes.

...

When they finally reached home, Mu Nanshu unlocked the security door with her fingerprint and pushed it open. Lu Cheng heard his phone ringing.

The caller ID showed Mu Leng, Mu Nanshu’s father.

Lu Cheng just flashed the phone’s screen to Mu Nanshu for a moment, and she promptly said, ”I’ll go cook and prepare the ingredients, you can come and help after the call.”

”Okay!~”

Then, Lu Cheng answered the call, ”Uncle Mu, have you had dinner yet?”

Mu Leng: ”I haven’t had time to eat, just got a scolding. Sigh...”

After lamenting, Mu Leng asked with a chuckle, ”Xiao Lu, what’s the situation between you and Xiao Shu?”

”Back then, when Xiao Shu suddenly decided to go abroad, neither we nor your parents were prepared, and the engagement matter couldn’t really be settled.”

Mu Leng was very adept at social etiquette, first highlighting his daughter’s past shortcomings to Lu Cheng.

Hearing this, Lu Cheng lowered his head and said, ”Uncle, back then, both Xiao Shu and I were too young, thinking that when things didn’t go as expected, it was the end of the world.”

”Xiao Shu’s choice to study abroad was definitely the right decision.”

”It’s just that now, I feel like I’m holding Xiao Shu back a bit, but we’re working on specific plans.”

Reflecting, Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu were indeed not very mature in the past.

Lu Cheng doesn’t blame his past self, nor does he blame the past Mu Nanshu.

Mu Leng expressed his stance, ”Xiao Lu, you’re a good kid, smart and mature; I’ve always had high hopes for you.”

”That’s why, when you and Xiao Shu used to play and study together, I never interfered, because I knew you two were sensible.”

”But now that you’re grown, you must realize if you want to be family, it’s best not to let too much distance separate you.”

”Uncle’s biggest regret is not being there enough for Xiao Shu when she needed company but choosing to venture out instead.”

Lu Cheng replied with a smile, ”Uncle, don’t say that. Maybe that’s how you feel, but actually, your decision back then wasn’t wrong either.”

”The economic foundation is also extremely important.”
