System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Lin Qianlong wasn’t playing around either; he often came to the hospital to perform surgeries, though his surgical range wasn’t as extensive as Lu Cheng’s, and with Zeng Huanqi and Zhang Tiesheng able to rotate, he had ample rest time.

Lin Qianlong was truly surprised that after Lu Cheng pulled a few extra shifts, he could end up working for ninety-six hours without going home.

With Lu Cheng being young and able to endure, otherwise he might not have made it.

Lu Cheng didn’t hold back with Lin Qianlong and the others; he glanced at the computer and simply set up a surgery template, without immediately writing the surgical records.

He said, ”Du Daihua, you can write up the surgical records later; it’s for a patient who had gallbladder suturing done. It’s the patient in Bed 9!”

Lin Qianlong heard this and his mouth twitched, ”Our surgery department’s patients are all in Bed 9 now?”

The previous emergency surgery team typically had three or four patients as a norm, occasionally reaching up to six.

Having 9 inpatients was never a possibility.

”11. Beds 1-10, and also Bed 19 is ours. Director Lin,” Lu Cheng said to Lin Qianlong.

Lin Qianlong quickly waved his hand, ”You hurry back and don’t worry about so much. Take a good rest today and tomorrow...”

Everyone else looked at Lu Cheng like he was livestock.

Lu Cheng was indeed capable, but the relentless drive to perform surgeries like this was beyond what most people could muster.

Director Huang Haibo from the internal medicine group arrived shortly after Lu Cheng left, knocking on the door and jokingly said, ”Director Lin, not seeing you for just one holiday, and our group’s beds are gone.”

”Hello, Professor Tong… I’ve long heard from Director Lin that you were going to transfer to our Emergency Department, welcome, welcome...” Huang Haibo was there for Tong Yuan’an.

Tong Yuan’an extended his chubby hand to shake with Huang Haibo for a while, then pulled it back, glancing at Lin Qianlong with a meaningful smile, ”Director Lin, the relationship between your emergency department’s internal and surgery departments is indeed good.”

Tong Yuan’an’s words made Huang Haibo and Lin Qianlong feel awkward.

Tong Yuan’an was going to conduct a research project at the hospital, which many people knew.

Tong Yuan’an wasn’t a stranger to the Emergency Department; he often came before to chat informally with Chen Song, but Huang Haibo rarely interacted with the surgical department during that time.

Since Tong Yuan’an pointed out the truth, Huang Haibo shamelessly said, ”Professor Tong, since you’re here, if there’s anything we can assist with, our internal medicine department won’t decline.”

”After all, our internal medicine group relatively has more time compared to the surgery department.”

Huang Haibo knew his reasoning was somewhat shameless, but when it comes to progress, being shameless is better than not getting any benefits.

Tong Yuan’an laughed and said, ”Sure, Director Huang, why not take the project over directly and do it?”

”Might as well kick that clueless young fellow Lu Cheng out of the picture.”

Tong Yuan’an’s casual remark made the atmosphere even more awkward.

Everyone knew Tong Yuan’an was joking, but instead of directly calling out Huang Haibo’s shamelessness, he brought up removing Lu Cheng.

It’s important to note that Tong Yuan’an’s project was meant to be collaboratively done with Lu Cheng.

Tong Yuan’an’s sarcasm left Huang Haibo unable to retort; he knew Tong Yuan’an wouldn’t cater to his feelings, and he quickly said, ”Professor Tong, I have some things to take care of.”

”Let’s have a meal together in a couple of days.”

Huang Haibo then awkwardly left the doctor’s office area.

Tong Yuan’an looked at Huang Haibo’s big head, rubbed his chin, and his amused chubby face seemed almost eerie.

Lin Qianlong hurriedly said, ”Professor Tong, there’s nothing else going on here, you can take a break first; we have duty doctors in our department, and if anything suitable comes up that requires your input, we’ll definitely call to consult with you.”

Tong Yuan’an didn’t care how he was on duty but directly asked, ”Director Lin, what’s the background of this Director Huang?”

”I’ve heard his personality has always been rather intense. More aggressive than you, the surgery director?”

Before, when Tong Yuan’an often visited the Emergency Department, Huang Haibo rarely showed up; but now, he came directly to scout, something not done without confidence.

Tong Yuan’an could choose not to entertain him, but he had to be ready to fend him off, fearing he would be left to handle things alone.

”Director Huang is one of our Emergency Department’s elites,” Lin Qianlong replied rather subtly.

Tong Yuan’an then stretched lazily and spoke in a flat tone, ”Director Lin, it’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it!”

Lin Qianlong and Zhang Tiesheng exchanged a glance, then said, ”Zhang Tiesheng, organize a brief handover, and later lead people on ward rounds.”

Zhang Tiesheng nodded in agreement.

...

In the Emergency Department’s director’s office, Lin Qianlong enthusiastically served Tong Yuan’an tea and said, ”Professor Tong, when Professor Chen was in our department, my office was open for you at any time, and it’s the same for you now.”

”I just don’t know if the tea Professor Chen liked will suit your taste. If you have other requests, feel free to ask.”

Tong Yuan’an accepted the tea from Lin Qianlong’s hand, sipping it slowly, ”I’m not picky with tea, unlike Chen Song who is fond of coffee; I personally prefer sweet milk tea, always ordering it.”

”Director Lin, let’s talk about that Director Huang; I don’t want any unknown factors mixing in while I’m working on the project.”
