System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

He didn’t blame the child for not being successful in school, but suddenly having his obedient son’s hand sawed off made him feel deeply guilty inside.

...

Lu Cheng walked towards bed 3 next door, where a patient with appendicitis had just been admitted yesterday. The appendectomy was performed by Zeng Huanqi.

The patient was a twenty-year-old young man, accompanied by his girlfriend.

However, at this moment, his girlfriend was lying on the bed, while he, who had undergone surgery, was sitting beside it.

”Buddy, you’re really good to your girlfriend, huh? Even after the surgery, you’re letting her rest,” Lu Cheng joked as he washed his hands with disinfectant.

”Dr. Lu!~” The young man gave a goofy smile, trying to stand up but wasn’t very nimble: ”She said her stomach was a bit uncomfortable, maybe from what we ate yesterday causing diarrhea.”

”Just let her rest for a while.”

During the morning rounds, Lu Cheng heard the young man say his girlfriend was the same age but a few months older than him. They had been in love since school, having gotten together right after middle school graduation and have been together for six or seven years now.

Upon hearing this, Lu Cheng nodded and casually asked, ”Have you eaten yet?”

”Dr. Lu, I should’ve eaten, but my girlfriend fell asleep, so I ordered takeout, which hasn’t arrived yet.”

”I’ve already passed gas,” the young man replied with a smile.

He knew Lu Cheng liked to trick patients, like instructing them not to eat until they’ve passed gas, or suddenly asking how many times they’ve clenched their fists if they were told not to over-exercise. Many patients have been caught out and criticized by Lu Cheng.

Lu Cheng’s smile froze: ”Can you check your girlfriend’s temperature?”

The young man treated his girlfriend well; Lu Cheng could see that the girl was also nice. They weren’t unkind to each other simply because they weren’t academically successful.

Even if she didn’t go back to cook, it didn’t make sense for her not to order takeout for him.

The man had already passed gas and underwent surgery yesterday, but the girl hadn’t helped prepare porridge — that was odd.

It didn’t make sense logically.

The young man was momentarily stunned: ”What’s wrong, Dr. Lu?”

”No fever,” the young man checked his girlfriend’s forehead and then patted her: ”Zhuzhu, wake up.”

The girl tiredly opened her eyes, her delicate brows furrowed, and instinctively covered her lower abdomen with her right hand, her legs curled up under the blanket.

Upon seeing this, Lu Cheng quickly pulled the curtains closed on both sides and shouted, ”Tian Duoduo, come to the ward!”

After shouting, Lu Cheng asked the girl, ”Is it pain in the right lower abdomen?”

The girl nodded, her forehead already dotted with sweat: ”It’s hurting even more now.”

”Dr. Lu,” the young man was slightly panicked, his movements were inconvenient.

Lu Cheng quickly donned examination gloves and said, ”I need to conduct a physical examination on your girlfriend. Her condition seems a bit unusual. You stay here and don’t accuse me of taking advantage.”

Since it was right lower abdominal pain, Lu Cheng pressed the McBurney point first.

There was significant tenderness, and the girl immediately grimaced.

However, Lu Cheng noticed that there was also tenderness at non-McBurney points, and the degree was not less than the McBurney point.

”Dr. Lu, what’s wrong?” Tian Duoduo rushed in.

”Call for an emergency bedside ultrasound and take an emergency blood test!~”

After giving the instructions, Lu Cheng thought for a moment and then asked the girl, ”When was your last period?”

”The last one was on August 15th, it didn’t come last month.”

The girl was a bit anxious: ”Doctor, what do you mean?”

The young man hesitated for a moment, silently pulling out his phone, looking a bit apprehensive and hesitant.

Lu Cheng turned to Tian Duoduo: ”Tian Duoduo, help her with the registration procedures!~ I’ll go write up the medical orders and request a consultation.”

Then, Lu Cheng looked at the young man: ”I’ll help you to the doctor’s office first, you’re the family member. We need to ask you for some basic information...”

Even though the young man was a patient, he couldn’t care less at this moment, as he was just a post-appendectomy patient.

Ten minutes later, after asking about the general condition, Lu Cheng quickly wrote up the blood test orders and then said, ”You guys probably got hit.”

”I highly suspect it’s an ectopic pregnancy; it’s a rather dangerous situation.”

The young man at this point wasn’t shy at all, nor was he tongue-tied: ”It happened on the first try?”

The two of them had a history of cohabitation, which was normal as both were adults and no longer in school, though the young man hadn’t reached the legal marriage age yet.

They usually took protective measures, but being young, they liked to try something different...

After finishing, the young man candidly said, ”Dr. Lu, does this mean she’s pregnant?”

Lu Cheng, seeing that the young man was too naive, quickly said, ”It’s a pregnancy, but it’s absolutely the kind that can’t be continued.”

”The gestational sac hasn’t descended into the uterus and is implanted in the fallopian tube. It must be treated, or if it ruptures, it will endanger life.”

”Of course, this is just my preliminary guess, but your girlfriend’s period is nearly half a month late.”

”You didn’t come to the hospital beforehand?” Lu Cheng found it very inconceivable.

Even if young people are careless, they wouldn’t overlook a missed period?

The young man said, ”We were planning to check, but wasn’t it the holidays recently? So we planned for after National Day.”

”Who would have thought that we’d get food poisoning yesterday.”

”Dr. Lu, I’ll take responsibility for her. We’ve already met each other’s parents,” the young man replied with a manly demeanor.

Lu Cheng: ”...”
