System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”October 1, Thursday, Day shift in the clinic: Zhang Tiesheng, Night shift in the clinic: Tian Zhuang; Day shift in the ward: Du Daihua, Night shift in the ward: Han Xiaoping, Surgery shift: Lu Cheng.”

”October 2, Friday, Day shift in the clinic: Zeng Huanqi, Night shift in the clinic: Zhang Tiesheng; Day shift in the ward: Tian Zhuang, Night shift in the ward: Du Daihua, Surgery shift: Han Xiaoping.”

”...”

After Lu Cheng carefully reviewed the duty roster sent by the department group, he marked his shifts on the calendar.

Then, Lu Cheng allocated all his Skill Points to Suturing Skill, walked into the Training Room, caught a poor yet cute little hamster, and anesthetized it...

About an hour later, Lu Cheng completed the suturing of the tri-segmented and four-segmented tail artery, and sat back thoughtfully on the chair in the Training Room.

[Suturing Skill (Expert 15/200) (Skill Points -15), Vascular Suturing Skill (Skilled 8/10) (+2), Nerve Suturing Skill (Skilled 8/10) (+1), Limb Replantation Surgery (Skilled 10/10) (Skill Points -4)]

[Current Skill Points Balance: 16.5 points]

Lu Cheng glanced again at the detailed breakdown of Skill Points yield on the panel, secured it in a notebook table, and wrote the following segment.

A: 0.3; B: 0.2; C: 4.8.

This is not Lu Cheng speaking in codes, but rather documenting his Skill Points yield.

A represents teaching yield, averaging at 0.3 per day, B represents the yield from spent orders in the ward, averaging at 0.2, C represents Lu Cheng’s average daily surgical yield.

It is apparent that the teaching yield now exceeds the yield from spent orders in the ward.

Daily Skill Points yield is 5.3. According to Professor Chen Song and Professor Tong Yuan’an’s introduction, many experts at Xiangya Second Hospital can achieve about 1 Skill Level with twenty hours of practice...

Even if some geniuses can achieve 1 Skill Level in ten or even five hours, they can still experience speed differences.

Lu Cheng’s phone flashed, and he picked it up to see a message from Mu Nanshu.

Mu Nanshu said they had set off for Ji City and had just arrived at the highway toll booth’s entrance, sending a photo to Lu Cheng.

”Safe travels!~” Lu Cheng had already sent his schedule to Mu Nanshu.

The tough life of a clinical doctor means that holidays have nothing to do with doctors; if you’re scheduled to work, you work.

”We’ll be going to Jiang Province for a trip on the second.”

”I’ll see if I can come back during the last two days of the National Day holiday.”

Mu Nanshu said.

Lu Cheng replied with a smile, ”Have fun!~”

During the seven-day National Day holiday, Lu Cheng is on duty, his father still has to drive, his mother has to set up a stall to sell vegetables, and Mu Nanshu’s family is on vacation.

This is life in different families, hard to envy.

After chatting briefly with Mu Nanshu, Lu Cheng received a call from Han Xiaoping on day duty in the ward.

”Brother Han...” Lu Cheng answered promptly.

”Brother Lu, there’s a limb amputation patient in the clinic; the orthopedics department’s opinion is either transfer or stump encapsulation.”

”The patient has been injured for a while, transferred from Miao Market Town at this time; it might not be timely to transfer to the State People’s Hospital.”

”What’s your take?” Han Xiaoping immediately asked Lu Cheng for his opinion.

Long County isn’t unfamiliar with limb or finger amputations, nor the untimeliness of transfers, but previous handling used ”quasi-amputation” for stump encapsulation.

If the transfer is not timely, the condition still needs treatment.

Limb replantation has a golden time for treatment; if this time is missed, transfer makes no sense.

”I’ll come by and check the situation.”

”Brother Han, send me the stump surface picture,” Lu Cheng said.

”What’s the patient’s opinion?” Lu Cheng inquired.

Different stump surfaces require different handling approaches.

Complete amputation also necessitates internal bone fixation, an area Lu Cheng currently lacks much practical experience in.

However, Lu Cheng can use Skill Points to compensate for his shortcomings.

”The patient and family are naturally anxious, they’re currently hesitating,” Han Xiaoping said.

”Then tell them clearly. If they wish to transfer, immediately stop the bleeding on the stump and transfer; if they want to stay, let them choose between stump encapsulation or trying limb replantation.”

”It may not survive, but there’s still hope!~”

”By the way, Brother Han, who from orthopedics is on duty today?”

Han Xiaoping glanced outside, lowered his voice: ”It’s Director Xiang on duty.”

”Alright.” Lu Cheng nodded.

...

Lu Cheng parked his electric scooter at the emergency department entrance, jumped off, strode towards the emergency department, while opening his phone to review the pictures Han Xiaoping sent.

The patient is a woodworking apprentice; the forearm of his left hand is severed by a saw, quite young, in his teens.

Lu Cheng stowed his phone and promptly rushed into the emergency department.

Director Lin Qianlong and Xiang Kuihua were both communicating with the patient’s family, and now Lin Qianlong said: ”We can’t guarantee that the hospital can save your son.”

”No one can provide you guarantees anywhere.”

”Either you choose to transfer, or you heed the orthopedics Director Xiang’s opinion and go for stump encapsulation.”

The patient’s family must be the mother, crying like a tearful mess: ”Doctor, my son is still young, if he loses the hand, what will he do in the future?”

”There’s nothing we can do; the hospital’s techniques are limited, it can be done, but the survival rate isn’t high, less than fifty percent.”

”You’ve delayed so long that now it’s estimated the chance of survival is less than thirty percent.”
