System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

September 27th.

The weather shifted to autumn, and the temperature in Long County had already eagerly dropped. Under the hazy drizzle, wearing just a sweatshirt was a bit chilly.

Administration Building, morning, nine o’clock.

Lu Cheng slightly tightened his white coat as he walked through the corridor towards the elevator shaft.

Five minutes later, Lu Cheng arrived at the medical department on the sixth floor!

The door to the administrative office was open.

As Lu Cheng reached the doorway, he saw a number of people sitting inside, including the medical department’s Bao Liming and Deputy Director Xie Liao, whom he knew.

The presence of Director Peng Haibo from Orthopedics Section 1, Director Liu Xia from Orthopedics Section 2, and Director Lin Qianlong from the Emergency Department was notable.

”Knock, knock, knock,” Lu Cheng knocked on the door, and the people inside turned to look at him.

”Dr. Lu, please have a seat.” Bao Liming extended his slightly chubby hand, pointing to a distant spot.

”Director Bao, Director Lin, Director Peng, Director Liu, Director Xie...” Lu Cheng greeted them but still didn’t dare to sit down.

”Director Bao, why did you call for me today?”

”Is there an issue with my clinical work?”

It was still early in the morning, and Lin Qianlong personally called him to the medical department, so Lu Cheng couldn’t be certain that he hadn’t been complained about by a patient.

Occasionally, there are families who appear agreeable in person but act differently behind the scenes. Lu Cheng hadn’t encountered such situations before, but that didn’t mean it couldn’t happen eventually.

No doctor likes to be summoned by the medical department.

Peng Haibo was the first to laugh and said, ”Dr. Lu, it’s not an issue with your clinical work. It’s that Director Liu and I are planning to bring you back to your home.”

”You see, we are all specialists in orthopedics.”

”While our hospital’s Emergency Department does handle some orthopedic emergency cases, it’s only a portion.”

”Don’t you agree, Director Liu?”

Liu Xia, the director of Orthopedics Section 2, was quite short, only one meter fifty-five. Most people’s impression of Liu Xia was that during surgeries, he often had to stand on a stool to operate.

But if one underestimates Liu Xia because of his height, that would be a classic case of judging by appearances. Not only does Liu Xia execute joint replacement surgeries beautifully, but he has also learned part of the treatment for bone tumors.

He is currently the only director in Long County who regularly performs chemotherapy for orthopedic cases.

Joint surgery is considered the aristocrat of orthopedic surgeries—not easy but not lengthy, and the surgical fees are quite substantial.

Hence, Liu Xia also had the capability to lead a team and establish a separate ward.

Liu Xia nodded, ”Lu Cheng, that’s my point too. If you don’t want to go to Section 1, coming to our Section 2 is just as fine.”

”Performing surgeries with us in orthopedics will feel more in the natural order of things.”

”For you, it’s also a form of protection.”

”And in terms of your long-term development, it would be more favorable.”

Lu Cheng glanced at Lin Qianlong, who merely looked back at him without saying a word.

Lu Cheng sat across Director Bao Liming, smiled briefly, and said, ”That’s true. When I was in orthopedics, the teachers were quite protective.”

”Here, I must thank all the teachers in front of the leaders for their careful protection, creating a definite safe zone.”

When it came to surgeries, assistants were the only role given, while the leading surgeries were vied for by the senior doctors.

Lu Cheng hardly got the chance to participate, so there was no question of responsibility.

After saying this, Lu Cheng continued, ”But for me personally, I think the Emergency Department is quite good.”

Lu Cheng’s words were tactful, making it hard for anyone to find loopholes.

In his years in orthopedics, Lu Cheng had no medical disputes, no patient complaints, let alone any lawsuits.

This situation was indeed due to the solid protection by the senior doctors in orthopedics.

But everyone sitting here was no fool, and they could sense the subtle sarcasm in Lu Cheng’s words.

Seizing the moment, Lin Qianlong spoke, ”Director Bao, Director Peng. While the attribution of disease categories and specialization is important, we also need to respect the personal interests and development preferences of our hospital’s doctors.”

”Certainly, the routine execution of Limb Replantation Surgery as mentioned by Director Peng and Director Liu is important, yet the regular execution of Spleen Preservation Surgery and Gallbladder Preservation Surgery in our General Surgery Department is equally significant.”

”Both surgeries are lifesaving, organ-preserving procedures.”

Peng Haibo’s expression turned slightly stern and he suddenly looked at Lu Cheng, saying, ”Lu Cheng, from the way you just spoke, it seems like you feel you’ve been treated unfairly in orthopedics these past years.”

”If you have any feelings or issues, you could share them openly here.”

”Some issues that are beyond my capability to solve can be handled by the leadership.”

Peng Haibo was trying to incite trouble.

Lin Qianlong quickly signaled Lu Cheng with his eyes.

In truth, Lu Cheng already understood that Peng Haibo was trying to ”use one’s influence to harm another” or, more accurately, baiting him into conflict.

Some things may exist, but that doesn’t mean they can exist openly.

Senior doctors suppressing and exploiting junior doctors is a known fact but cannot be publicly reported or officially acknowledged, as it defies conventional reasoning and could easily escalate conflicts...

Lu Cheng looked at Peng Haibo and said, ”Director Peng, I think the Emergency Department is quite good.”

”Of course, orthopedics is also excellent, but it might not align with my interests.”

Peng Haibo pressed further, ”How can it not align with your interests? You’ve been in orthopedics for so many years.”

Lu Cheng followed up, ”Yes, indeed, Director Peng, Director Bao.”

”As you mentioned, from the time I began my standardized training to when I started working at our hospital, I’ve been in the orthopedic circle for almost eight years.”
