The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 1243: Chapter 1243: Nathalie: Sorry, I didn’t have time

Sadam Vinson knew perfectly well how dry the lie he told was, but since he’d already said it, he couldn’t just backtrack and tell everyone the truth.

It was because Nathalie Quinlan had just glanced over, looking so much like his elementary school teacher who used to love scolding him, that he instinctively sat up straight.

He was in his twenties! He couldn’t just say something like that!

Under Brian Bonette’s gentlemanly but rogueish gaze, Sadam Vinson braced himself and awkwardly said, ”Ah, sitting too long, my leg cramped a bit.”

Brian Bonette gave him a meaningful look but didn’t expose his clumsy lie.

A leg cramp makes your back spring straight?

Only someone with as thick nerves as Sadam Vinson could come up with such a lousy lie. Anyone with half a brain couldn’t think of such a nonsensical excuse!

...

Nathalie wasn’t paying attention to the conversation between the two of them.

Her attention was mainly on the phone. She found a spot at the bar to sit down with one hand holding the phone, listening to Audrick Zachmann talk to her.

She tapped her fingers on the bar: ”Hmm, tonight?”

”Yeah, at the Imperial Hotel tonight, Nathalie, do you have time to come out for a meal? Big Brother is also here, he’s hosting tonight.”

Nathalie had no feelings towards Hendrik Zachmann. After a moment’s thought, she declined: ”I don’t have time tonight, you go ahead without me.”

”You don’t have time to come over?”

Nathalie detected the disappointment in Audrick’s voice and pursed her lips. In truth, she didn’t want to refuse him, but she also didn’t want to have any more dealings with the Zachmann Family: ”Maybe next time.”

Next time meant no next time.

Audrick wasn’t stupid. He could tell Nathalie didn’t want to see Hendrik, nor did she want to sit at the same table with Caryn Zachmann and the others.

He remembered the things Caryn had done, didn’t try to persuade further, changed the topic, chatted with Nathalie a bit more, then hung up the call.

After Nathalie ended the call, she put down her phone.

And happened to meet Amadeus Yancey’s gaze.

”Audrick?”

”Yeah.” She put the phone down and openly, without any concealment, said: ”He asked me to join him for dinner tonight at the Imperial Hotel.”

”Did he invite anyone else besides him?” Amadeus knew her too well. If it was only going to be Audrick, Nathalie might have considered it.

Sure enough.

The girl’s delicate brows and eyes were quite striking. Propping her chin with her hand, she paused for a second: ”Yeah, other members of the Zachmann Family will also be there. I told them to go ahead, not to worry about me.”

Sadam Vinson also guessed who the person proposing the meal was, pulled his lips into a disdainful smirk: ”Nathalie, the other members of the Zachmann Family include Hendrik?”

He had heard that Hendrik had been back for four or five days, yet during those days, he didn’t have time to meet Nathalie for a meal, but now he suddenly had the time to ’summon’ her.

Pfft, get lost!

He has time, but Nathalie doesn’t. Hendrik mustn’t really think a big shot has nothing better to do than to accept every dinner invite.

He’s been trying to ask Nathalie to dinner for half a month, and she hasn’t gone with him even once.

Nathalie neither confirmed nor denied it, which equated to admitting that Hendrik was among those dining tonight. However, her expression was indifferent, clearly not impressed by Hendrik: ”I have a piece of music to write, haven’t finished editing it, no time to go.”

Sadam Vinson restrained himself from asking whether she didn’t want to go or really didn’t have time, anyway, among the Zachmann Family, only Audrick and Mr. Zachmann were normal. The rest acted as if something was wrong in their heads, especially when Caryn occasionally showed up to disgust people.

He couldn’t even be bothered to comment.
