The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 1218: Chapter 1218: Exposed on the Spot

Caryn discreetly hid her phone, forced a smile, and absentmindedly said, ”It’s nothing, just some school news.”

She changed the topic perfunctorily: ”By the way, bro, why isn’t Brother Barness with you today?”

Hendrik saw her face looking quite bad, her eyes wandering, but didn’t think much of it, assuming she had encountered something unpleasant at school. He leaned back on the chair and casually replied, ”You mean Evron Barness? He went to pick up his grandfather.”

”Mr. Yapiter?” Caryn asked with interest.

Hendrik didn’t hide anything from her and nodded, ”He said his grandfather has an important friend in Beijing, so he specially took time to come and see the friend.”

Caryn couldn’t help but think of what happened at Nathalie Quinlan’s graduation party.

She remembered clearly, back then, Govert Griffin had mentioned in the group chat that Mr. Yapiter had also attended Nathalie Quinlan’s graduation party!

This important friend Mr. Yapiter came to meet in Beijing couldn’t possibly be... Nathalie Quinlan?

Just the thought of it made her breath quicken.

Hendrik noticed her face turning worse, furrowed his eyebrows, and asked with concern, ”Caryn, are you really okay? You look terrible. Do you want to go to the hospital?”

”No need, bro.” Caryn pressed his hand, took a deep breath, and reluctantly explained, ”I’ve been busy with the transfer major issue recently; maybe I’m just too tired.”

Hendrik recalled her mentioning Nathalie Quinlan offending the Wilmar Family and Raymond Wilmar, causing Adelle Wafford to be suspended, and his brows furrowed tighter, remaining silent.

He was about to cheer Caryn up by changing the subject to the upcoming world software competition to be held domestically.

Suddenly, his phone lit up.

Hendrik was momentarily interrupted, impatiently picked up the phone, and glanced at it.

It turned out to be a WhatsApp message from Evron Barness.

[How many people named Nathalie Quinlan are there in Tsinghua University’s freshman class?]

???

Hendrik looked utterly baffled.

His long fingers tapped on the editor, replying: ”Why are you asking this?”

Evron Barness quickly sent another WhatsApp message.

[You don’t know?]

Hendrik’s brows tightened, his message still unfinished.

The other party showed they were typing.

Soon, another message came in.

[You didn’t know that this time, the person representing our country in the world software competition has the same name as your cousin, Nathalie Quinlan, and they are both students of Tsinghua University. I thought they were the same person, so I asked you.]

—You didn’t know that the girl representing our country in the world software competition has the same name as your cousin? Both are named Nathalie Quinlan, and both are Tsinghua University students.

Hendrik couldn’t believe the message he saw, confirmed it several times, and was sure he wasn’t mistaken.

Evron Barness was talking about Nathalie Quinlan.

He recalled Caryn using her phone earlier and how her expression changed, not responding to Evron Barness’ message, but first raising his head and staring intently at the girl opposite with a complex gaze.

After a long time, he hesitantly asked, ”Caryn, are you aware of the world software competition this time?”

”...”

Caryn, having just managed to calm her emotions, was stirred up again. She felt restless and her face looked awful.

Hendrik was unsure about how much of a rift Nathalie Quinlan had with the family, so he asked her, ”Evron Barness just sent me a message saying Nathalie Quinlan secured this year’s competition spot.”

Caryn stood rigid, taking a deep breath, ”I just saw the message from the school as well.”

Hendrik furrowed his brows, just about to ask why she hadn’t mentioned this earlier when he asked her.
