Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

But since the spaceship in phase space is already in phase space, the ordinary weapons used have inherently taken on the properties of phase space.

When attacking entities within the same space, no special abilities are required.

All that needs to be done is to send the ordinary cruisers into phase space.

And the only issue with doing this lies in energy radiation.

Ships in phase space have no way to dissipate energy radiation.

But as long as the ship is sent out of phase space before the energy radiation overloads, the problem is also resolved. This makes it perfectly feasible to use ordinary ships as temporary phase ships.

This is one of the interim solutions proposed by the Empire’s ship research institutes with phase ship projects after the Fan Chao Research Institute developed equipment capable of sending whole space stations into phase space, addressing the issue of phase ships not yet being able to directly participate in combat.

The difficulty of manufacturing a fully functional phase ship compared to making equipment that can send objects into phase space is evidently simpler for the latter.

The Empire hasn’t used it much yet simply because there hasn’t been the necessary environment to use it.

It shouldn’t be a problem for the Mechanical Race to create something similar, especially since they have a suitable environment for it.

Chen Ming speculated that this was likely the case and would just have to observe to confirm.

He utilized spiritual energy to send the robot into the phase space of the area where the Phase Giant Beast had just been active.

He happened to see those Mechanical Race cruisers that had just ended their warp jump.

With a slight observation, Chen Ming could confirm.

The facts were exactly as he had speculated.

Those Mechanical Race cruisers were ordinary warships, merely modified quite noticeably.

Some significant enhancements to energy radiation capacity were made, while the energy radiation dissipation system was almost rendered defunct.

Specifically designed for situations where qualified phase ships cannot be manufactured to participate in combat.

This indeed was the thought process.

That’s why the Phase Giant Beast might have sensed these temporary phase ships and chose to leave.

If the Mechanical Race chooses to pursue, they would definitely be the ones to suffer.

But to them, all they needed to do was drive away the Phase Giant Beast.

They now not only have to solve the Phase Giant Beast problem but also deal with the threat from Chen Ming’s fleet.

They simply don’t have the time to chase down the Phase Giant Beast.

Not only was their important resource-producing nebula region suddenly attacked by a large Insect Race fleet, but the other side of the border was also attacked.

Coincidentally, the nebula region was attacked after encountering border conflict and reinforcements had already been dispatched.

Many of the Mechanical Race’s reinforcement fleets had been deceived by Chen Ming, unable to handle the Insect Race’s troubles, with no time to track the Phase Giant Beast.

Unclear why the Mechanical Race has shown no signs of deploying their main ship yet, only using the existing defensive forces of the star system to counter.

Chen Ming’s current plan didn’t have room to be carried out.

However, it didn’t matter, whether the Mechanical Race’s mother ship came or not wasn’t a loss for him.

He intended to continue observing this battlefield with the broad perspective offered by spiritual energy.

Anyway, the Phase Giant Beast surely had a destination when it warped.

If Chen Ming guessed correctly, the goal of the Phase Giant Beast’s warp should be the star system where he used spiritual energy to send the second batch of Forbidden Guard Insect Race.

The situation there was similar to the area where the Forbidden Guard Insect Race first arrived.

The Insect Race units perished more quickly.

Now there were no living Insect Race here, but Chen Ming could still hear the call of the Phase Giant Beast from above the planet through the bodies of the Insect Race.

In hearing the clearer sound this time, Chen Ming caught a hint of... pain in the Phase Giant Beast’s call for him?

Was the Phase Giant Beast injured?

Just now?

Chen Ming seemed to have realized the key point.

He just felt something was off with the Phase Giant Beast’s attack on the Mechanical Race’s colony, and the way it left marks on the ground didn’t make sense.

The Phase Giant Beast was a manta ray-shaped creature with two giant ”wings” on either side of its body.

Since its appearance this time, the Phase Giant Beast seemed to only use its right ”wing” to attack the Mechanical Race,

and from the few intact traces left, there appeared to be a noticeable gap on the Phase Giant Beast’s left wing.

Chen Ming immediately repositioned the robots sent into phase space by the Mechanical Race, which hadn’t yet been discovered by them, to the destination of the Phase Giant Beast’s warp.

The moment his robot appeared at the destination,

the Phase Giant Beast sensed Chen Ming’s presence, and its call carried a hint of joy.

But Chen Ming felt no joy whatsoever because, in addition to seeing the Phase Giant Beast, he also saw a huge bite mark on the Phase Giant Beast’s wing, with the wound already scabbed but the painful marks not fading soon.

The type of scars correspond perfectly with the issue that just came to Chen Ming’s attention regarding the Phase Giant Beast’s actions.

With just a closer look, one would discover that the bite marks on the Phase Giant Beast’s wing were identical to those of the Phase Giant Beast’s mouthparts.

This Phase Giant Beast, whom Chen Ming has encountered multiple times, was bitten by either another of its kind or a much larger same-species creature, creating such scars.
