Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 226: Chapter 101: Attitudes of Various Parties

Gamma A will soon become a Beta-level AI core.

Chen Ming already knew about this.

But Gamma A also mentioned that it was still a bit short of a substantial upgrade.

And during this period, apart from the three almost useless Mechanical Race chips that Chen Ming gave it, there was nothing else that could make Gamma A improve so quickly.

The only possibility is that Dusk arranged something, providing Gamma A with the computational power it needed to satisfy the conditions for enhancement.

As for whether this is the case, it can be resolved with an investigation.

Chen Ming opened Refraction’s panel, and then he discovered that Refraction was currently parked just outside a factory in Dusk’s industrial colony.

And it was an independent small factory, just like the independent small supply point where Chen Ming was located.

Although Refraction was parked here, Gamma A had already been removed from Refraction.

However, Chen Ming could still determine Gamma A’s location.

It was inside the adjacent factory.

The core replacement should be in progress.

It appears that Gamma A’s sudden upgrade was indeed a deliberate effort by Dusk.

They still don’t believe that Chen Ming doesn’t have the ability to control the AI core, so they decided to replace the core of Gamma A, which they suspect was controlled by Chen Ming.

From both a logical and rational point of view, this is the best choice without any faults, and Chen Ming couldn’t possibly offer any opinions on it.

Otherwise, it would be equivalent to helping Dusk completely confirm that he has such capabilities.

But even if Gamma A were to change its carrier, Chen Ming was still confident that his spiritual energy would continue.

Because his panel showed [Control of AI Entity], not [Control of AI Core].

Dusk did not base their distinctions on the core itself but rather on the existence within the core.

It’s uncertain whether after replacing Gamma A’s core, Dusk would reinstall Gamma A into Refraction or try to provide Gamma A with a new spacecraft.

Chen Ming didn’t think Dusk would relax their vigilance over Gamma A just because it changed its exterior; there might be more probes to come.

Replacing Gamma A with a Beta-level core seemed to require more time.

Chen Ming wasn’t just waiting around; there were other things to do at the moment.

Handling those military escape pods.

Chen Ming walked into the warehouse, using the sub-control panels available in the warehouse to control the equipment connecting the work area and the warehouse, along with some multifunctional robots.

He transported the escape pods in the warehouse to the next area, beginning to dismantle the outer layer he had previously added through the panel.

The freezing hibernation devices within the escape pods had been activated, so unless externally initiated, they would remain frozen indefinitely.

Thus, Chen Ming wasn’t worried the soldiers inside would seize the chance to escape once the shell was removed.

After working for a while, Chen Ming found the escape pod containing the soldier wearing a special military uniform.

At the same time, through the transparent viewport of the escape pod, Chen Ming saw the eagle-shaped insignia on the soldier’s chest, along with the ”ⅩⅣ”.

Earlier in superspace, when Chen Ming’s terminal network was still connected, he took the opportunity to search about it.

This insignia belonged to the Imperial Independent Fourteenth Legion.

Chen Ming had once been just an ordinary Maintenance Master, at most aware that the military had many different departments.

From the Star Realm Joint Battle Zone Military at the top, down to Star Realm Military, further down to Star Zone Military, and finally to the most scattered Star System garrisons.

In addition, the Empire had some independent legions outside this system; beyond that, Chen Ming didn’t know much.

After his search, he found out that the Fourteenth Legion was currently recognized as the strongest among the Empire’s twenty independent legions.

No wonder a battle commanded by the Fourteenth Legion’s commander could limit Chen Ming’s abilities at every turn.

The Fourteenth Legion possessed the largest exclusive territory among all independent legions.

Although the area was smaller than the Star Realm Joint Battle Zone Military, Star Realm Military, and Star Zone Military, the profits from all the colonies within the Star System were equivalent to the legion’s military budget.

This meant that the Fourteenth Legion’s combat capabilities were often stronger than some of the Battle Zone Militaries.

Moreover, according to Chen Ming’s findings, the Fourteenth Legion was once considered quite weak and ineffective.

It wasn’t until a reorganization over twenty years ago, after facing multiple major battles with Dusk on the frontline, that it reached its current peak state.

And why the people from the Fourteenth Legion suddenly came here was still unknown to Chen Ming.

Through the transparent viewport of the escape pod, Chen Ming saw, apart from the military uniform, a face around the same age as his, with a military ID plaque hanging on his chest.

The commander’s name was Cheng Xinghe, and his rank was merely Captain.

Looking at the closed-eyed Cheng Xinghe in the escape pod, Chen Ming’s expression showed some hesitation.

He didn’t harbor significant hatred toward the military, especially the external Fourteenth Legion.

After all, following orders is normal for soldiers.

Grievances have perpetrators, and debts have owners; the ones Chen Ming held grudges against were the high-ranking military officials who ordered the pursuit of Chen Ming and those in collusion with them who would rather kill Chen Ming over Sky Steel.

Moreover, the Psychic who blocked the boss’s rescue.

And Chen Ming didn’t intend to kill these captives to avenge those who perished in the previous battles.

Doing so would bring no benefit to Chen Ming, and he was only barely acquainted with the company’s people.

It had been thirty years; those he once knew either retired or passed away.
