Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 206: Chapter 96: Ruler, Trump Card

At this moment, within the hyperspace of the star system where the Pirate Space Station is located.

The battlefield, which had already reached a fever pitch, now fell into a state of calm.

This was due to both the military’s initiative for a ceasefire and the sudden appearance of that Ruler Level Cruiser.

In this Star Zone, the one capable of commanding a cruiser is none other than the Military Outpost chief accused of rebellion by the military.

So everyone present was well aware of who the current captain of that cruiser was.

Therefore, upon seeing the cruiser, neither the company nor the military dared to make any significant moves.

The company knew who had given the order for a military fleet of such scale to hunt down Chen Ming.

Meanwhile, the military couldn’t be certain about the intentions of the outpost chief, branded a rebel by a higher authority.

That said, the military could definitely communicate internally, which was far better than the company’s guessing game.

Moreover, with the appearance of that Ruler, communication between the company fleet and the military fleet was severed.

And it’s unclear whether this resulted from the influence of the Ruler or if it was the military fleet that proactively severed it.

Thus, the captain of the Centurion class was forced to use the communication system to regroup the fleet, maintaining formation while protecting the Armor Piercing and Chen Ming’s Iron Ore No.

Although there was a lot of static on the fleet’s internal communication channel, it was still barely intelligible.

After swiftly issuing a few instructions, the captain turned to Chen Ming and said, ”Mr. Chen, the ship’s communication system has been affected; that cruiser is equipped with professional electronic warfare equipment.”

”We don’t have ships with electronic countermeasure equipment; all external communications have been completely cut off.”

”Even though I tried to contact the company, I’m not sure if the last message about the military dispatching a cruiser was sent.”

”Therefore, we must send you back to the Space Station. Only the Space Station can withstand the cruiser.”

Chen Ming knew there were no better options and asked, ”What are you planning to do?”

”The cruiser is even more powerful than your ship; it’s absolutely beyond what our fleet can handle, so any response would be futile.”

”We will rely on all our fleet’s ships, dragging out the time, to give you a chance to retreat beyond the Blocking Pulse’s effective range.”

The captain’s intentions were clear; he would issue a forced order for all ships to sacrifice themselves to delay the enemy, including his own Centurion class.

With the military fleet’s attitude unclear, the fleet had no power to oppose the cruiser, and its ships couldn’t shake off a military fleet of equal rank.

So fighting desperately was the only option.

If they could accomplish the mission, at least the company would take care of their aftermath.

The captain’s actions benefitted Chen Ming.

Even if Chen Ming might not ultimately escape the Ruler’s pursuit, there would still be a chance if they did this.

So he didn’t refuse.

Chen Ming left the command room, heading to the flight deck to board a shuttle boat.

In less than a few dozen seconds, the cruiser had approached the battlefield from its jump point, yet it still hadn’t shown any aggression, adding to the enigma of the chief’s intentions.

Chen Ming didn’t get distracted; he promptly returned to his Iron Ore No.

Preparing to move away, preventing military ships from initiating the Blocking Pulse to interfere, in aid of retreat.

At this point, Chen Ming only planned to steer the Iron Ore No. away, leaving the Centurion he controlled to assist in holding the line, despite its probable failure, in hopes of deflecting several shots of large weaponry.

If the Centurion were to explode here, so be it; Chen Ming could afford to lose a Centurion.

The Armor-Piercing Level acquired from the authorities was similarly expendable.

Chen Ming personally accelerated the Iron Ore No., heading towards a Superspace Channel.

The military fleet made no movement; they seemingly had no plan to stop Chen Ming.

The nearby Ruler Level, at some distance from Chen Ming, neither rushed to pursue; instead, it launched something at the central star’s Gravity Well in the star system.

Chen Ming quickly sensed something wrong and immediately activated the Superspace Navigation System, regardless of whether he was within the Blocking Pulse’s effective range.

The system was still booting, but Chen Ming suddenly saw that the space distorted by Gravity in the Gravity Well was abruptly flattened.

The Gravity of the Gravity Well vanished.

No, it was locked.

Chen Ming immediately thought of a device that could cause this situation.

A device called the Temporary Gravity Well Lock Device.

Its effect is similar to the Blocking Pulse Generator, though the working principle differs.

The Blocking Pulse Generator’s function is to interrupt the Superspace Navigation System’s startup.

If the Blocking Pulse Generators are few—just one or two—then by timing it right and risking attack, a ship interrupted by the Pulse could still potentially force its way out,

but the Gravity Well Lock Device is different and more effective.

The startup of the Superspace Navigation System, besides the system’s own mechanics, requires the external force of a star’s Gravity Well within hyperspace.

Without the Gravity Well of a star, the Superspace Navigation System cannot function.
