After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 626: Chapter 630: Police Visit [2]

Hearing the door open, the two officers seated on the sofa immediately turned their faces.

”Hello”, Xu Pei barely managed a smile, ”Are you looking for me?”

The two stood up, and the male officer asked her, ”Are you Xu Pei?”

”Yes, that’s me.” Glancing around and noticing her bag on the desk nearby, Xu Pei suddenly felt a chill up her spine.

Could it be, they... found something?!

”What’s wrong?” The male officer, noticing her change in complexion, asked with concern.

”Oh, no... nothing, I’ve just been feeling a bit unwell these past few days!” Xu Pei replied evasively, ”Officers, what do you need from me?”

”Why don’t you take a seat and we’ll talk?” The male officer sat down nearby, Xu Pei walked over slowly and sat on the sofa, and he pointed to the bag on the table, ”Is this bag yours?”

”Uh, yes, it’s mine!” Xu Pei pursed her lips, ”Last night, when I was at the bar, it was snatched by two people when I left.”

”What was in the bag, do you remember?!” the male officer asked further.

Xu Pei recounted, ”There were keys, a wallet, and some cosmetics... Actually, I don’t remember very clearly.”

”Was there a cell phone?”

”Cell phone, yes, right, my cell phone was in there too.”

”How many?”

How many?!

Xu Pei looked at the bag on the table, and her mind buzzed with a dull roar.

It’s bad, the new phone seems to have been in the bag too, they must have found it, definitely!

She feigned calm, ”Of course... just one.”

”Just one?” The two officers exchanged glances, and the male officer asked again, ”Are you sure, just one?”

”This...” Xu Pei hesitated for a moment, ”I... really don’t remember clearly, you know, doing the kind of work we do, it’s common to have two or three phones to stay in touch with artists or other people. I also forgot how many I put in there.”

”That’s right, we found two cell phones in the bag!” The male officer handed the bag to her, ”Take a look, see if anything’s missing, and then sign this lost and found claim form.”

A lost and found claim form?!

Xu Pei was startled, ”Are you here to have me claim lost property?”

”What else?” The male officer smiled, seemingly noticing her tension, and joked, ”Or did you think we were here to investigate you?”

”How could that be, I am a law-abiding citizen!” Xu Pei chuckled, opening the bag and browsing through it cursorily, ”Yes, everything is here, nothing is missing, thank you both for the trouble.”

”Aren’t you going to check the cash in the wallet?” the male officer reminded.

”No need, I don’t even know how much cash I have in my wallet.” Xu Pei placed the bag aside, ”I really appreciate you both for retrieving my bag.”

”Oh, no need to thank us. Yesterday, someone else recovered your bag from the thieves for you. He caught the two thieves as well. Your bag was returned to the bar’s counter by him, and later the bar staff reported it to the police, and we found you through the business cards inside,” the male officer explained with a smile, standing up. ”Now that we’ve verified the items are yours, we’ll take our leave. In the future, make sure to keep your belongings secure, and try not to go out drinking alone at night to avoid similar incidents.”

”Okay, thank you!”

Xu Pei thanked them profusely as she escorted them to the elevator.
