After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 613: Chapter 617: Leng Zirui’s Hesitation【3】

After getting out of the car and climbing the steps, before Leng Zirui could knock, Leng Lin had already opened the door from the inside.

”Come in, the noodles are all cooked, I’ve rinsed them with cold water for you.”

”You’re kidding, you cooked yourself?”

Leng Zirui entered the house with a smile and followed Leng Lin to the dining room, where Leng Lin used a spoon to serve him two spoonfuls of fried sauce into his bowl, then pushed the plate of vegetables including shredded cucumber and green beans towards him.

Without ceremony, he sat down at the table, scraped all the vegetables into his bowl, casually mixed them with his chopsticks, then lifted the bowl and took a bite.

”Aunt Su’s sauce isn’t bad, but I still love my mom’s chicken and sesame sauce cold noodles the most.”

His words awoke old memories, and Leng Lin looked at him with a gentle slant in his eye, ”You have the nerve to talk; back when Xu Pei was staying at our place, after your mom made noodles, you three little things would grab huge bowls and race to finish, the last to eat had to wash the dishes. Zimo was always the slowest, that kid, calm since he was young, and Xu Pei would always volunteer to wash his dishes for him.”

As he mentioned Xu Pei, Leng Zirui’s noodle-eating slowed down considerably.

Leng Lin noticed his movement and his graying eyebrows lifted slightly in curiosity before he took a breath and spoke in a deep voice.

”Is it about Xu Pei?”

”Yeah.”

Leng Zirui was not too surprised; he and his elder brother could be cunning, but they inherited that from Leng Lin. Even though they didn’t like to admit it on regular days, both brothers understood that nobody could escape Leng Lin’s watchful eyes.

Moreover, he had come this time precisely because of this matter, and Leng Zirui didn’t feel the need to hide anything.

”Do you also feel something is off?” he asked, lifting his face from his noodle bowl.

Leng Lin’s brows furrowed slightly, ”Eat your noodles first, they won’t be good if they cool down too much.”

Leng Zirui said no more, just bowed his head and continued to eat, not stopping until not a single noodle remained in the bowl. Only then did he stack the empty bowl and plate and carry them to the kitchen.

The Leng family didn’t spoil their children. Leng Zirui was barely in his teens when Leng Lin sent him to a camp where he faced rough treatment, so laziness wasn’t in his nature.

Knowing his father had personally cooked the noodles, he of course couldn’t let his father wash the dishes as well.

”Just leave them in the sink, Xiao Su will wash them tomorrow morning,” Leng Lin stood up and headed upstairs, ”Come with me upstairs!”

Father and son went upstairs together and upon reaching the study, Leng Zirui closed the door firmly behind them.

Leng Lin then sat down on the sofa and patted the empty spot beside him, signaling for Leng Zirui to sit.

”Actually, about Luo Xiaoqian’s matter, I had heard some whispers before— didn’t really make much of it. Later, Xu Pei came to our house and intentionally left those newspapers behind. That’s when I decided it was time to see her. Xu Pei is smart, though a bit sly, but it’s understandable. She’s been fending for herself all these years, plus with that incident, her self-protectiveness is rather strong.” He turned sideways to look at his younger son and asked softly, ”Has she done something again targeting Xiao Qian?”

”Sister Xu Pei, it seems, really does like my brother,” Leng Zirui said.

”Zimo has always seemed cold on the outside, but he’s warm at heart; he’s been protective of you since you were little. When Xu Pei came along, he even looked out for her too. I used to think they made a good pair, but seeing as there has been no reaction from your brother over the years, I gave up on that idea. Now, I think maybe he would be better suited to a girl like Xiao Qian.” Leng Lin glanced at his younger son, ”Alright, since you’re here, stop beating around the bush!”
