After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 616: Chapter 620: Not Forgiving [1]

She could understand the kind of affection Leng Zimo had for Xu Pei.

The Xu Pei of the past was someone closer to Leng Zimo than childhood friends like Huangfu Ao and Shen Yizhou, akin to Zirui—she wasn’t just his friend, partner, but also family.

After returning home today, Leng Zimo had locked himself in the piano room; she quietly went downstairs several times but didn’t hear him play a single note.

Luo Xiaoqian knew he was hurting inside.

With such a betrayal, anyone would feel the pain.

If it had been someone else, Leng Zimo would have surely given them a severe punishment, but Xu Pei was too special.

If her concession could make Leng Zimo’s life easier, then she would endure it one more time.

”Come here.”

Leng Zimo put his chopsticks down and spoke softly.

Luo Xiaoqian stood up, and he pulled her wrist to sit her down on his lap.

”She went too far this time. I should have sent her to prison, and even that would have been a light punishment,” Leng Zimo lifted his hands and pulled Luo Xiaoqian’s head to lean on his shoulder, pressing his face against hers. ”My hesitation isn’t because I still harbor old feelings, it’s because of Dad. The case of Xu Pei’s father was personally arranged by my dad to be investigated. At first, he refused to believe that his best comrade-in-arms would betray his country; he just wanted to clear Xu’s father’s name. But as the investigation went on, he ultimately found evidence against Xu’s father.”

Rubbing her hair, Leng Zimo let out a long sigh.

”His nature is such that, it wouldn’t just be Xu’s father, even if I had done such a thing, he would personally send me to prison. Later, Xu Pei’s father couldn’t handle life in prison and committed suicide; Xu’s mother also passed away, leaving only Xu Pei. My father has always felt guilty about the Xu Family, thinking it was all his fault, so over the years, as Xu Pei stayed at our house, whenever the three of us fought—even when it was clearly Xu Pei’s fault—he would protect her. My reluctance this time is because I’m worried about Dad. He’s old now and can’t take too much of a shock.”

Raising his hand, he cupped Luo Xiaoqian’s face, gently stroking her cheek with his thumb.

”This is the last time. If she makes any move to hurt you again, I promise, I won’t let her off, alright?”

”Well...” Luo Xiaoqian pondered, ”it’s not that I can’t agree, but then, you have to make it up to me!”

”How do you want me to make it up to you?” Leng Zimo asked.

Luo Xiaoqian nodded toward the bowl of noodles on the table, ”After we finish the noodles, you wash the dishes.”

”No problem.” Leng Zimo pressed a gentle kiss on her face. ”If needed, I can even have the chef help wash them.”

”I don’t need that.”

Luo Xiaoqian twisted, trying to escape from his embrace, but he held her tightly and wouldn’t let go.

”You little fool, why are you so silly!”

”I’m not silly!” Luo Xiaoqian curled up in his arms, pretending to be fierce, ”Let me tell you, I haven’t forgiven Xu Pei. I’m just sparing her this time. If she dares target me again, hmph, I’ll let her know that Luo Xiaoqian is not to be messed with. I’ll show her that the self-defense techniques I’ve been practicing these days weren’t for nothing. Just watch me beat her up till her face blooms with ’peach blossoms’!”

”Self-defense techniques?” Leng Zimo looked at her doubtfully. ”Really?”

”Of course it’s real?!” Luo Xiaoqian rolled up her sleeves, flexing her upper arm, ”Feel this, my biceps are coming along!”
