High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1896: Chapter 117: White Dew

The next day was Monday.

On the nineteenth day of the seventh lunar month, which coincides with the White Dew solar term. Although the weather was clear in the morning, there was already a slight chill in the air, refreshing and invigorating, as if telling everyone on campus that autumn had truly arrived.

This wasn’t surprising.

It was only the first week of school, and the wizards responsible for managing the weather monitor were filled with passion and diligence. If it were the end of the year or on the days when they received their paycheck, the weather certainly wouldn’t align so perfectly with the solar terms.

In the words of a joking rumor, this is called ’Heaven and Human Response’—everyone can gauge the mood of the weather monitor wizards by whether the weather changes drastically, without even needing divination.

Of course, for Zheng Qing, the mood of the weather monitor wizards didn’t really matter to him. He still needed to do his morning lessons and write his assignments.

The first class this morning was the Curse Course. The analysis essay on ’Cry and avoid it’ assigned by Old Yao in the last class had to be submitted before class. To avoid accidental overlaps from mutual ’borrowing’, it was necessary to arrive a bit early to compare notes with classmates and make slight adjustments.

Besides, Old Yao’s sentence at last night’s class meeting, ’If you have any ideas, feel free to bring them up in class tomorrow,’ deeply attracted the young wizards of Astronomy Class 08-1.

After a night’s brewing, these young wizards had a stomach full of questions, eager to get answers from Old Yao—being able to listen in person to a Legendary Wizard unravel secrets is a rare opportunity, let alone when it involves a battle between wizards and demons, which is all the more exciting for these passionate young wizards.

Therefore, early in the morning, classroom 601 in the east teaching building was already filled with the students of Astronomy Class 08-1.

Even Xin Fat Man had unusually not overslept today and went to the classroom early.

This nameless sense of urgency prompted Zheng Qing, after finishing his morning lessons, to hurriedly drop two books in the library to reserve a seat and then rush to the classroom.

On one hand, he was worried that the enthusiastic Fat Man would choose to sit in the front row of the classroom today, where going slightly off course during class would be easily caught by Old Yao, making it unsuitable for catching up on sleep; on the other hand, breakfast for dorm 403 was bought by Fat Man, and this Fat Wizard hadn’t gone to the Flying Garden to deliver food today, leaving the young scholarship student dizzy with hunger after morning lessons, subconsciously evaluating the plumpness of a twin-tailed squirrel he encountered on the way.

The hungry look scared the spiritually sensitive little squirrel, causing it to drop the chestnuts it was holding and run away in a panic, its tail spinning like a windmill caught in a hurricane, disappearing in the blink of an eye among the yellow leaves.

Thank goodness.

When Zheng Qing peered into the classroom from the door, he found Xin Fat Man still sitting quietly in the usual spot of the Absolution Quartet at the left rear corner by the window.

This made him sigh heavily in relief.

Thinking about being able to eat soon, the young scholarship student’s mood brightened as he greeted Jiang Yu sitting in the front row, even having the thought to tease Li Meng, who was drinking milk tea.

”Drinking milk tea will make you fat, you know!”

Zheng Qing swallowed a mouthful of saliva, mimicking a barrel waist, and warned, ”Especially drinking milk tea on an empty stomach in the morning, loads of fat and calories will accumulate in your body... and you’ll turn from a little beauty into a big barrel.” (a pun in Chinese)

After speaking, he laughed twice, amused by himself.

However, the pun was so cold that no one else caught any deeper meaning.

The little witch sipped on her straw, cheeks puffed out, chewing on the black pearls in her milk tea, silently glaring at Zheng Qing, as if this could force the warlock to back off.

”Don’t you not believe me!” Zheng Qing felt slightly awkward.

Heavens knew, though his reminder was partly joking, it also had a trace of sincerity!

Li Meng took another sip of milk tea, swallowed the pearls in her mouth contentedly, then lifted her gaze to glance at a certain warlock passing by her desk.

”Wipe your saliva before you speak.”

She looked at Zheng Qing with disdain, almost pointing at him and uttering the words ’big liar’, while sneaking a peek at her cousin, muttering softly, ”Really living backwards... even tricking a child out of their milk tea!”

Zheng Qing forced a couple of laughs, planning to slip away quietly, unexpectedly receiving a warm cup of milk tea handed over from the side. The hand holding the cup was pale and slender, with a string of pea-sized jade talismans on the wrist, shimmering with radiant colors, clearly not cheap goods from the pedestrian street.

”There happens to be an extra cup here, take it.” Jiang Yu didn’t even look up, still engrossed in previewing the Chapters in ”Standard Spells”, while the other hand kept sketching quickly in the book pages with a feather pen, looking very busy.

Zheng Qing hesitated for a second.

Then he saw the hand holding the cup shake impatiently.

”Thank you!”

The warlock whispered in gratitude, immediately obediently taking it over, his fingers accidentally touching the slender touch, cold yet warm. He vaguely felt that the color between the witch’s earlobes and neck deepened slightly.

”Cousin, that’s your milk tea! I bought you Luoshen hundred fragrances especially! I even asked the clerk to add an extra spoon of honey for you!” Li Meng immediately exclaimed indignantly, attracting the attention of the surrounding witches.

This clearly exceeded Jiang Yu’s expectations.

”Silence!”

She finally looked up, first glanced at Zheng Qing, signaling with her eyes for him to hurry up and leave, then turned her stern face to the little witch, her long fingers tapping several times on Li Meng’s textbook: ”... Do you remember the explanations for the character ’taboo’ mentioned by Professor Yao in the last class? Recite them for me! So you won’t embarrass yourself when the professor calls on you.”

Magic can only be defeated by magic, and the strategy of cutting the source never goes out of style.

Li Meng instantly forgot her previous ’righteous indignation’, her expression visibly falling. She gave Zheng Qing a fierce glare at his back—if looks could turn into arrows, Zheng Qing would have been turned into a porcupine on the spot.

Sensing the resentment behind him, Zheng Qing could vaguely feel it.

This made him even more reluctant to look back, opting instead to sneak away faster, the red robe’s hem lifting in the small breeze, rustling through the narrow aisle.

As he ran, he happily sipped away.

Perhaps because of his hunger, Zheng Qing found today’s milk tea particularly sweet. Even the usually sticky pearls felt exceptionally chewy at the moment.

”Hey, you’re drinking pretty quickly.”

Xin Fat Man had seen the small incident breaking out in the front of the classroom early on. Now seeing Zheng Qing rushing back to his seat, he habitually started to tease, while nudging the paper bag on the table: ”Looks like you won’t need me to buy breakfast next time?”
