High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1893: Chapter 114: The School’s Official Statement (Happy New Year!)

”Recently, some students have complained that the price the school offers when repurchasing creatures hunted in the trial arena is suspiciously low, leading them to suspect the staff in the logistics department have tampered with it. So, they repeatedly filed complaints to the school administration, asking if there are any students from our class involved.”

Professor Yao held a pipe in one hand and pressed the other on the lecture desk, surveying the surroundings like a big cat perched on a cliff scanning its territory.

The young wizards down below looked around curiously, with faces full of curiosity. Based solely on their expressions, it was impossible to tell who had secretly reported to the school’s Supervisory Department.

Zheng Qing raised his eyebrows.

He hadn’t heard about this matter. Because the Atonement Hunting Team had their own shop, D&K, and their own sales channels, including last year’s winter hunting, this year’s resistance against the black tide, and the adventures within Dreamland and the Black Prison. All hunted creatures by the team members are handed over to D&K for processing.

Firstly, it eliminates the school as the biggest ’middleman’, increasing profits slightly; secondly, it’s to enrich the products at ’Ding Ding Finance and Pest Control Company’, making the shelves less empty.

For this, Fox Five, who’s responsible for the store, complained more than once to the boss about the diverse spoils from the hunting, making D&K look like a small grocery store, severely affecting the store’s taste.

After a brief silence, the classroom buzzed lightly like a swarm of bees quietly slipping into the Hundred Herb Gardens.

”Is there such a thing?” Zheng Qing poked Xin Fat Man’s back with the end of his brush. ”Logically, you should be most interested in this kind of things. Why have I never heard you mention it?”

”Hiss!”

The Fat Wizard sucked in a cold breath, leaned forward to dodge the brush with a look of annoyance: ”There are so many news in the editorial department every day. Do I have to report every single thing to you? Didn’t you also not tell everyone what you wrote with that pink paper crane?”

Zheng Qing immediately forgot his previous question, turned abruptly, and squinted at Doctor Xiao with fierceness in his eyes. When this happened, only he was nearby; he must have leaked something to the Fat Man.

”You certainly didn’t say anything.” Xiao Xiao hurriedly pulled out a turtle shell, deliberately showing his desk mate the worn-out ancient defensive runes on its shell, speaking quickly and softly: ”Anyway, no one knows. Even if I say it, what does it matter?”

This sounded quite reasonable.

But most of the time, rumors don’t need incontrovertible ’knowledge’ to hatch. Especially since Zheng Qing had previously decisively eliminated the evidence, giving people the impression of covering up something significant.

Seeing Xiao Xiao’s innocent look, Zheng Qing grew even more frustrated.

But before he could decide how to deal with the traitor in their team, Old Yao interrupted the opportunity.

Thump, thump!

On the podium, the professor heavily banged the desk with his pipe, stopping the gradually spreading buzzing sound, while slightly elevating his voice:

”It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not; as per the school’s request, I’ll briefly explain this to you here... Since I need to explain this matter, I must first talk to you about the special nature of this trial arena. Hmm, some students might already know that this second-year trial arena is set in a place that originally belonged to an Otherworld of the Black Prison.”

While speaking, the professor’s gaze swept over the corner where a few warlocks from the Atonement group were sitting without pausing, but Zheng Qing was very sure that Old Yao glanced extra at him.

”Additionally, at the end of last term, the war within the Black Prison has become widespread knowledge for many people in this school. Some students might be unaware of the details, and others might know distorted details. To prevent misinformation, today, I will briefly tell you about that war.”

Upon hearing this, everyone perked up.

For these young wizards, nothing is more thrilling than a great event involving battles against demons.

Especially when the speaker is Old Yao—who participated in the Black Prison battle and serves as the dean of Jiuyou Academy, rumored to be promoted to vice president—the war he recounts is undoubtedly more authoritative than rumors on the streets.

Even the Atoning Hunters who were in the Black Prison at that time also focused, interested in hearing the ’official perspective’, which is crucial to handle others’ inquiries in the future.

”As everyone knows, Black Prison is a place to imprison demons. But unlike ordinary prisons like Danghag, Black Prison is built in a Dark World without sun, moon, or starlight... I know, I know you want to say it’s different from what you saw in the trial arena, don’t rush, I’ll get there later.”

Old Yao gestured for silence, stopping several students leaning forward, seemingly wanting to interrupt, then put the pipe in his mouth, savoring twice before speaking again:

”In short, the school has imprisoned many notorious demons within Black Prison, some widely known throughout the wizarding world, such as the Dark Monster Behemoth—more famously known as the ’Behemoth Giant’; like the Great Witch Demon Sujade, the spirits under its command outnumber the living people you’ve ever seen; or the Many-Faced Witch, Resentful Shen Jiliangzi, when she approaches you, you’ve already lost yourself, and so on. Besides these, there are many demons unknown to the general public but very famous among high-level wizards, like Black Sheep Ibon or Alien God Ilris.”

”These imprisoned great demons worked in concert with the Demon Alliance Army outside of Black Prison, breaking the barrier of the Black Prison World, attempting to storm in and rescue these prisoners.”

”Naturally, the school didn’t allow this.”

”Thus, a fierce battle erupted outside the Black Prison Castle—that is, the core node of the school’s supervision of the Black Prison World.”

”It’s termed as ’battle’ because the war’s scope was relatively limited, confined within the Black Prison World; even if there were some external extensions, they merely imposed shackles on the time line, the causal line upstream and downstream of the world.”

”The battle process was monotonous and uninspiring. You can flip through history books describing previous wars between wizards and demons; it is much the same, just different names over time.”

”As for the result, it’s merely mutual gains.”

”Demons left behind many corpses but took away some prisoners initially held in Black Prison; Wizards suffered minor casualties and maintained control over Black Prison. But this isn’t victory.”

”I won’t boast like in ’Beta Town Post’, claiming wizards heroically expelled the demons from Black Prison; let’s be honest about it. Black Prison is a place to imprison demons! Breaking into Black Prison and retreating unharmed—this is victory? This is a failure for all wizards!”
