High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1867: Chapter 88: Paper Mouse

Zheng Qing actually left out a bit.

Besides Poseidon, Furry Bean, Green Snake, and those little Sprites, he also managed a group of cats on the Cat Fruit Tree and kept two Mouse People in a store on the Pedestrian Street.

From this perspective, his reasons for taking the Magical Creatures course were not only sufficient but practically self-evident.

Of course, the real reason the Warlock chose this course wasn’t because of those cats and dogs; the matter was private and not for outsiders to know.

Not even for the companions by his side.

Otherwise, Zheng Qing dared to bet with his ears and the little snake’s tongue inside them, that in a second, everyone in the noisy teaching building would know.

Just as the Warlock thought about the teaching building, he heard those three words in his ear.

”The stinky old scholar who misguides students has already entered the building!”

The Stick Figure man behind the door shouted at the top of his lungs, and Zheng Qing looked up to see it finally getting up from the ground, beginning to rub its eyes and tidy the few sparse short strands of hair on its head.

This time, the people in the classroom finally heard what it was yelling about.

”Is it talking about Old Yao?” Xin Fat Man hesitated, unsure, and asked his companions.

Zhang Ji Xin sucked in a breath of cold air: ”Isn’t it way too bold... did it say Old Yao is a ’monster’? Isn’t it afraid the Professor will rip its mouth off?”

”It probably thinks the Professor won’t stoop to its level.” Xiao Xiao rarely scratched his head.

Zheng Qing flattened the Mulberry paper he had crumpled into a ball, fixing his gaze on the sketch of the Cat Fruit Tree on it, teasing Xin Fat Man: ”Looks like you don’t need to draw two tigresses beside it.”

In the classroom, the other students were also whispering among themselves, occasionally casting weird looks at the reckless little Stick Figure behind the door, as if calculating its remaining days.

Soon, the Stick Figure confirmed the students’ suspicions, shouting again: ”Professor Yao XiaoMi has appeared at the entrance of the sixth-floor corridor!”

Without waiting for the sound to fade, the Stick Figure then howled at its loudest:

”...The great Legendary Magician is about to grace His loyal classroom!”

The students couldn’t be bothered to disdain the fawning Stick Figure. Everyone eagerly looked up at the door, wanting to witness the Legendary Wizard’s glory firsthand.

Behind the door, the Stick Figure puffed out its belly, held its head high, and strutted back and forth in its small space, acting as if it were part of Old Yao’s entourage.

Zheng Qing finally stopped hesitating, crumpled the Mulberry paper in his hand into a ball again, and quietly dropped it to the ground.

The paper ball hesitated after hitting the ground before rustling, extending claws and a tail, transforming into a round little mouse. It lifted its slender nose, sniffed around, and, upon finding the correct direction, quickly scurried between the desks and chairs towards the front row of the classroom.

The entire process was very quick, and as everyone’s attention was focused on the door, it almost went unnoticed.

The reason for saying ’almost’ is because Zheng Qing vaguely felt that Doctor Xiao seemed to have glanced at him, but when he turned to look, he saw Xiao Xiao staring straight at the door as if that glance was his imagination.

Boom!

The classroom door was flung open, and Professor Yao strode in, as usual, bustling with energy, cradling a set of notes in his left hand and deftly removing a pipe from his mouth with his right hand, pressing it downward skillfully:

”Sit down, sit down... How was your summer vacation?”

The slick-backed hair that reflected light, the sallow complexion, the smiling eyes, the familiar tone—all these combined gave everyone the feeling that the Professor standing there had not changed from the one at last semester’s final class.

Except his pipe had been replaced with a new wine-red model.

The young Wizards of Astronomy Class 08-1 looked up in unison at the Professor standing on the podium, seemingly unable to decide what to say, so they answered his greeting with silence.

Professor Yao tilted his head and blinked: ”It’s... been two months, how come you’re suddenly so reserved?”

”Professor, it just spoke ill of you, called you a stinky old scholar!” Duan Xiao Jian suddenly jumped up from his seat and pointed at the Stick Figure behind the door, reporting with righteous indignation.

Immediately, he was subjected to the Stick Figure’s mad curses.

”Liar! Traitor! Scum!” The Stick Figure tugged at the sparse strands of long hair on its head and stamped its feet in frustration on the blank white paper: ”I’ve worked myself to the bone, tirelessly reporting to you all these years, only to be betrayed now... doesn’t your conscience ache?!”

Listening to its operatic wails, the students burst into laughter, and the slightly tense atmosphere instantly lightened up a lot.

Professor Yao looked at the hunchbacked Warlock with a smile: ”Swearing? That’s a very serious accusation... do you have evidence?”

”Yeah, do you have evidence!” The Stick Figure behind the door immediately stopped throwing a tantrum, stood up straight, and pointed at Duan Xiao Jian: ”Without evidence, I’ll sue you for false accusations! I’ll go to the School Works Committee, to Danghag...”

”I do!”

Sitting in the front row, Li Meng eagerly raised a small Speaker Flower in her hand: ”I recorded everything it said just now!”

The Stick Figure’s screeching abruptly stopped, and it looked at the Little Witch with a ghostly expression.

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but chuckle. He hadn’t expected Li Meng to come up with something like this and hadn’t expected the simple-lined Stick Figure to make such expressive faces.

The Little Witch adeptly pulled open the petals of her Speaker Flower, forcing it to repeat what it had heard earlier. As a result, not only was the ’stinky old scholar’ confirmed, but earlier phrases like ’monster’ and ’unspeakable Cannibalistic Demon King’ echoed once again in everyone’s ears.

Even Old Yao couldn’t help but be curious.

”Why would you record something like this?” He asked, speaking for the Stick Figure behind the door and expressing the curiosity of everyone in the classroom.

Li Meng honestly replied: ”Oh, I just thought it sounded good and wanted to learn it.”

Zheng Qing silently mourned for the child for three seconds—in the back row, he could clearly see Jiang Da Headmaster’s tightly pursed lips and stern face—it was hard to imagine the kind of punishment she’d face when they left.

”Sigh.”

Professor Yao stepped down from the podium, reassuringly patted the Little Witch’s shoulder, signaling her to sit down, and flicked a piece of chalk with his fingers, aiming at the Stick Figure behind the door.

The chalk touched the paper and turned to dust, instantly burying the Stick Figure in a white mound.

Li Meng felt she had accomplished something significant, delightedly sat down, and looked around with pride. She seemed to want some words of praise, yet was met with Jiang Yu’s stern face, immediately turning her into a quail.
