High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1887: Chapter 108: Lin Yan Calls Him a Calamity Magnet

”No, you didn’t go the wrong way!”

The young bursary student gritted his teeth, his voice gradually carried by the morning breeze. He walked towards the Lakefront Corridor without looking back: ”...Before entering the library, I need to cut off this damned shadow first! It’s not my shadow!”

At the warlock’s feet, a pitch-black shadow stretched itself lazily, transforming into two large fan-like hands, waving merrily at the Absolution’s diviner, as if bidding him farewell.

It didn’t care about Zheng Qing’s threat at all.

On the contrary, it welcomed Zheng Qing’s decision — had it known that causing trouble would make Zheng Qing make up his mind sooner, it definitely would have stuck openly to other witches’ shadows in front of Jiang Yu the very first day of returning to campus.

Xiao Xiao glanced at the retreating figures of Zheng Qing and the shadow, shrugged, and hugging the law book in his arms, turned towards the main door of the Book Mountain Library.

...

...

When the two hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team parted ways in front of the library, a brief but intense quarrel erupted among a few new students who had rushed off after being ’humiliated’ by Zheng Qing.

”I told you long ago, that Zheng Qing guy is not to be messed with.”

The round-faced, bald-headed warlock in a blue vest rubbed his shiny head, his voice carrying a hint of annoyance: ”...I heard that Blue Bird from sophomore year and Dylan are well acquainted with him, all part of the Absolution Hunting Team. We just got into school, we shouldn’t provoke them like this... Even if we intend to cause trouble, we should do it at night, with sacks and sticks, and secretly ambush them. Provoking openly like this, it’s an unsporting victory!”

The white-robed warlock gave the round-faced warlock a strange look.

Is that how you use ’unsporting victory’?

In contrast, another horse-faced warlock seemed much more ’normal’.

”Blue Bird?”

Upon hearing one of the names, the horse-faced warlock’s eyes lit up, a strand of long hair hanging from his forehead rose without wind, floating up like a soft sword, slanting towards mid-air: ”The one in sophomore year who’s good with swords? I heard he came third in Starry Sky last year... a fight with him should be interesting.”

As he spoke, he glanced back in the direction where the others had left, sticking out his tongue, licking his thin lips. A blush rose on his pale cheeks, and he had the impulse to turn back to the lakeside and fight three hundred rounds with Zheng Qing and the others.

Lin Yan sighed slightly in his heart.

These two partners are good in every way, except they’re too impulsive, speaking and acting without thinking, thoroughly infected by the madness of those lunatics from Starry Sky Academy.

This won’t do.

”Now is not the time to fight them.”

Lin Yan stopped, blocking his eager companions, warningly looking at them: ”This is Jiuyou Academy, not your Starry Magic Cube, private fights are absolutely forbidden. Any act of drawing the law book on fellow students will attract the school’s attention... Moreover, we’re just new students with no foundation, and he has been a bursary student at Jiuyou Academy for two consecutive years, has his own hunting team, and is designated by ’Magic Wand’ as the ’World’.”

”I never intended to fight that weakling.”

The long strand of hair on the horse-faced warlock’s forehead slowly fell, as he turned around with a disgruntled expression: ”I’m just interested in Blue Bird.”

”Ha, weakling?!”

Lin Yan showed a trace of mockery on his face, and his tone became much sharper: ”If you knew this ’weakling’ has been on the Black Prison Battlefield and severely injured Mr. Sepulano last year, I wonder if you’d still have the confidence to use those words. Many seniors in the castle consider him a school troublemaker, not without reason.”

”Sepulano?”

”Black Prison Battlefield?”

The two in blue vests showed surprise in unison, but they inadvertently ignored the term ’troublemaker’ and instead focused on the other two terms mentioned by the white-robed warlock.

The horse-faced warlock immediately gave up his obsession with Blue Bird, and pursued the matter: ”The Sepulano you mentioned, is he... from your academy?”

The news that Sepulano is the newly appointed Augustus of the Blood Comrades is no secret at First University. As the leader of one of the two major student organizations, Sepulano’s name carries more weight than Zheng Qing or Blue Bird’s, and attracts the interest of these new Stellarians from Starry Sky Academy more easily.

Every new entry into First University is faced with the heavy pressure emanating from senior students and the rather austere and rigid hierarchy within the school, yet there are many adolescents still with the courage to break everything, shouting ”I can replace you” with immature boldness.

Only after they bruise their faces and heads bloody against the harsh wall of reality do they slowly learn to maintain a level of respect for the predecessors.

For now, the faces of the two in blue vests were still pristine.

”Mike Gold Cypress Plano.”

Lin Yan softly recited the name, a trace of nostalgia on his face: ”Besides him, is there another Sepulano in the entirety of First University? Last year, barring unexpected events, the school might have brought in another Sepulano... what a pity.”

Saying this, he sneered twice unavoidably.

”What a pity what?”

The round-faced warlock originally wanted to ask about the Black Prison Battlefield, but upon seeing Lin Yan in this manner, he knew there must be another angle, so he repressed his impatience and urged: ”Rest assured, only the three of us are here, do you still worry we’ll inform the people of Jiuyou?”

Even so, Lin Yan continued to act with great caution, looked around to ensure there was no one else, then touched the ring on his finger, setting up a sound-blocking barrier.

”Sepulano’s brother was killed due to a demonization accident before the start of school last year.”

He showed a proud expression, clearly satisfied with his intelligence: ”This incident caused quite a stir at the time, reported even by ’Beta Town Post’. However, back then Sepulano was not Augustus yet, just a relatively outstanding student at Alpha Academy, so few people paid attention to it, with more focus on the poor mechanism of the Alliance’s response to the demonization issue... As for the one who killed his brother, you’ve all just met.”

”Beta Town Post,” the horse-faced warlock rarely showed embarrassment, muttering: ”Nowadays, who still reads newspapers... real wizards should confirm all news through divination.”

Compared to him, the round-faced warlock paid more attention to Lin Yan’s last words.

”We’ve all just met?” Relating to the previous topic, he almost instantly realized, exclaiming: ”Is it the captain of Absolution? Zheng Qing?”

”Bingo!” Lin Yan snapped his fingers: ”Unfortunately, there’s no prize.”

”What on earth is this...”

”There’s no point dissecting past events now.” The white-robed warlock interrupted his companions’ inquiry, succinctly summarized: ”You just need to know that Zheng Qing is a thorn in Sepulano’s mind, and we are here to help remove it, that’s enough.”
