High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1870: Chapter 91: September 1

Although Zheng Qing possessed a forbidden curse seed named ’Order’, he could not set rules.

Just like he couldn’t dictate whether the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, whether the moon hides during the day and appears at night, whether the starry sky is so far away from the earth, or whether the vampires and werewolves would continue their millennia-long feud.

He merely went with the flow, following the rules of the universe.

Even if he actively did something, it was only within the scope allowed by the rules, like the difference between making a potato into mashed potatoes or frying it into potato strips.

Even though God created this world, Merlin and his companions must have done something to this world, resulting in the awe-inspiring transformations we see today.

Zheng Qing did not understand these things.

He only vaguely sensed that he was extracting power not belonging to him through those invisible ’rules’.

Power, a lot of power, an enormous amount of power that grew constantly, becoming ever stronger. Just like when an earth dragon is severed, it rolls in the earth’s energy and grows back.

Each time, when the young wizard felt he had exhausted that unsettling power in his body, it would silently accumulate again.

He studied, and the power would increase; he slept, and the power would increase; he transformed into a cat, and the power would still increase; when he squandered recklessly, the power grew even faster; he tried to be cautious, building a cage for the power, only to find a big hole had formed in the cage by the next day.

No power could put shackles on power.

So, after struggling for a while, the young wizard finally came to terms with it, stopped resisting, and laid back, sleeping like a baby every night. Allowing that seed to take root, sprout, and grow.

”Reach out, boy, just reach out and you can pluck the sun.”

He mumbled, talking to himself, suddenly smiled, closed his eyes tightly, and instead of reaching out, he tucked his hands into his armpits, wrapped himself in a thin blanket, and turned over, pretending he could sleep a bit more soundly.

In fact, this did make him sleep more sweetly.

But he didn’t have time to keep sleeping.

The chirping of birds outside penetrated through the balcony glass, the thick bed curtains, and light bed sheets, constantly drilling into the warlock’s ears, making him feel as if he returned to last night’s little woods — the tired birds returning to their nests called out from their treetop branches just like this, chirping endlessly.

”Awake?”

Perhaps hearing Zheng Qing’s mumbling, from outside the bed’s curtains came the doctor’s low query, followed by the rustling sounds of getting up: ”If you’re awake, get up quickly, today’s morning class is a bit late... What time did you come back yesterday? What did Old Yao want with you?”

The snoring from Xin Fat Man’s bed stopped abruptly, then became softer and slower. Even though his eyes were closed, and separated by the thick curtains, Zheng Qing could still feel a pair of ears standing erect in the dim morning light.

”Not awake!”

The young cost student muttered, not opening his eyes nor moving, trying hard to search his mind for any remaining fragments, but ultimately came up empty.

He angrily opened his eyes; several little fairies were crouching by his pillow, peering curiously at the warlock who seemed to be ’talking in his sleep’ with their dark little eyes.

Seeing him open his eyes, the little fairies immediately scattered with excited calls, flapping their small wings and disappearing completely from the curtains in an instant.

Zheng Qing sighed deeply, knowing he no longer had the chance to continue sleeping in,

As expected, in the blink of an eye, the little fairies returned to the curtains, but this time, they carried steaming towels, toothbrushes with toothpaste, a cup, and mouthwash. Even one little fairy, for some unknown reason, brought a grape, purplish-red and very enticing.

”I just wanted to sleep a little longer.”

The warlock muttered, rolling over and finally, under the urging voices of the little fairies, slowly got up, took the steaming towel, and wiped his face, instantly feeling much more awake.

”The school year has just started; we should quickly get back to a normal routine... it’s good for regulating your internal magic power.” Xiao Xiao, standing in front of the dressing mirror, was fastening his belt, while the framed mirror above seemed to be screaming loudly, yet not a sound could be heard.

”What is that?” The young cost student curiously glanced at the mirror.

”It’s just a simple soundproof magic.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses and looked at Zheng Qing through the mirror, kindly reminding him: ”If you don’t want Tuan Tuan to throw a fit, you’d better get out before it wakes up.”

Zheng Qing took a quick look and sure enough, the snoring of the fat cat at the end of Xin’s bed had ceased, and its fluffy pointed ears twitched restlessly in the cool morning light.

The grey-skinned Gouzi silently panted, whirling around the young man’s legs.

From the mirror’s reflection, Zheng Qing caught Xiao Xiao’s contemptuous gaze, as if he was silently mocking him for being less perceptive than a dog.

”Go wait outside, don’t cause trouble!”

The warlock nudged Furry Bean with his foot, scolding softly. The dog immediately retracted its tongue, wagged its tail, and suddenly turned into a sharp angle, disappearing from sight.

When Zheng Qing and Xiao Xiao finished washing up and went outside, they immediately saw a grey figure darting around on the soft grass in front of Dormitory Hill, chasing a three-tail squirrel.

The little squirrel’s three tails spun rapidly, like an antique airplane at full throttle, skimming over the tips of grass blades, but it couldn’t shake off the grey shadow behind it and squeaked in terror.

”Be careful, don’t eat it!” Zheng Qing shouted loudly, issuing a warning.

Gouzi immediately abandoned the frothing squirrel it was chasing and dashed back to the warlock’s feet, meowing while circling his legs.

”You haven’t mentioned, what time did you come back last night? We didn’t hear you come in.” Xiao Xiao, clutching his notebook, lazily repeated his earlier questions: ”Also, after the class meeting last night, what did Old Yao want with you?”

”Last night I transformed into a cat and returned through the balcony, it’s normal that you didn’t notice.”

Zheng Qing bent down to scratch Furry Bean’s ears, seeing it close its eyes happily, his mood improved significantly: ”... Tuan Tuan knew I was back... as for Old Yao, he had me stay back yesterday to return my magic gun.”

As he spoke, he reached into the grey cloth bag and pulled out a Remington, waving it in front of the doctor.

”That gun?” Xiao Xiao squinted, adjusting his glasses: ”If I recall correctly...”

”Yes, you remember correctly.”

Zheng Qing interrupted him, cheerfully answering: ”It was taken by that fearsome female demon on the Black Prison Battlefield... but because she was distracted on the battlefield, the demon alliance army didn’t take her when they retreated... and then when the school organized the spoils, they found and returned this gun to me.”

”To avoid danger, the school checked it for a long time, and it was only returned to Old Yao yesterday.”
