High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1866: Chapter 87: Course Selection Reasons

The Ancient One Merlin, a powerful wizard proficient in alchemy, divination, and transfiguration magic, has left numerous legends across Europa and various new worlds, known for his traditionalism and wisdom.

”The stubborn wizard faction always acts in the name of Wizard Merlin.”

With the serious topic at hand, Xin Fat Man finally stopped obsessing over the Furry Bean’s food expenses, and analyzed seriously: ”Senior Linda told me that this isn’t their first time causing trouble. Every year, they secretly conduct illegal dimension experiments, no fewer than eight or ten times, but they’re all quietly suppressed by the people of Danghag.”

”I’ve heard that many members of the Dark Council are also their people.” Zhang Ji Xin promptly added: ”You all still remember the things that happened on the Black Prison Battlefield, right...”

”Has the wizard world discovered this kind of plaque before?”

Zheng Qing pointed to the simple sketch on mulberry paper and suddenly asked. This was a rough sketch he had drawn based on his impression of the plaque on the vertebra.

”Not quite the same,” the fat man looked down at the sketch on the paper and finally shook his head: ”The data collected in the editorial department shows that these types of symbols were mostly engraved on stone before... it’s the first time they’re on a copper plate.”

”Perhaps they think they’re in a revolution.”

”Foolish.”

Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, interrupting his companions’ discussion, with a somewhat dismissive tone: ”Those stubborn wizards have simply read too many old-style knight novels, always thinking they can become heroes, join a secret organization, assassinate a tyrant, and then world peace... little do they know that maintaining world peace has always been order, not violent rebellion.”

Upon hearing the word ’Order’, Zheng Qing instinctively perked up his ears, pausing the feather pen in his hand—the feather pen that had already sketched out the outline of a cat fruit tree on new mulberry paper, with empty branches adorned with tufted balls of varying sizes.

”What about an outdated order?”

The young scholarship student asked with great interest: ”Shouldn’t outdated orders be improved, changed, or even broken through violent rebellion, and then establish a new order?”

”Every organization, every hunting team, every religion is maintained through order, without exception.” Xiao Xiao glanced at the team leader and continued: ”The reform of order should be gradual; those who naively believe they can smash the original order and establish a new order are either lunatics or saints.”

”Hmm, you’re a reformist, aren’t you?” Zheng Qing touched his chin, recalling his middle and high school history textbooks, thoughtfully commented: ”That implies weakness, compromise, and surrender.”

Xiao Xiao’s eyebrows immediately shot up high.

But before he could continue to argue, the stick figure behind the classroom door suddenly shouted: ”The monster with a pipe just left its office!”

The classroom suddenly fell silent.

A moment later, someone asked uncertainly: ”What did it say?”

”It seemed like something about a monster gobbledygook?” someone immediately answered.

Looking again towards the door, the stick figure had closed its eyes, curled up lying among the sparse grass, as if it had just been talking in its sleep.

The noise in the classroom gradually resumed.

Zheng Qing lowered his head, grabbed the feather pen, and started sketching on the mulberry paper again. This time, he drew two differently sized tufts under the tree, with the larger one filled in black, the smaller one left white, the tails curved together, forming a wobbly heart shape.

”What are you doing?” Xin Fat Man squinted his eyes, watching Zheng Qing’s feather pen doodle and draw.

”Bored, just doodling.” The Absolution Hunting Team’s captain maintained a straight face, skillfully shifted the topic: ”Have you confirmed your course selection? What’s for Wednesday afternoon?”

”Mysticism Notes, my brother said that as long as you’re a normally grown wizard, you’ll get high marks in this course.” Zhang Ji Xin confidently patted his chest: ”Trust me, choosing it is absolutely right!”

”Is it really that easy?” Xin Fat Man evidently didn’t believe the school would blatantly lower the bar in course content.

”Of course, the daily classroom assignments might be slightly more...” Zhang Ji Xin scratched his head, managing to make some sense: ”To gain something, you must be prepared to give up something. It’s nothing more than losing in the east and gaining in the mulberry, so to speak.”

Zheng Qing remained noncommittal, turning his gaze towards Xin Fat Man.

The fat wizard also didn’t speak but instead looked with a smile towards Xiao Xiao: ”Doctor, what did you choose?”

”Magic Universe Studies.”

Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses and calmly replied: ”I originally wanted to choose Kabbalah Divination, but considering the impact of astrological theory on divination, I decided to solidify the basics first... Magic Universe Studies is one of the classic theories of the dimension school, worth studying thoroughly.”

”I also chose it.” The fat wizard clapped his hands hard.

”Are you sure?”

The red-faced male wizard kindly advised: ”I’ve heard about that course; it’s very difficult, and every year someone fails... Trust me, choosing Mysticism Notes is an easy pass!”

Xin Fat Man seemed a bit hesitant, but after glancing at Xiao Xiao, he made up his mind again: ”That’s it. Studying with the Doctor, the final grade shouldn’t be too bad...”

”I think you just don’t want to think, hoping to copy the Doctor’s homework instead.” Zheng Qing suddenly interrupted the fat wizard’s determination, quietly stating: ”Whether to endure a little pain during the term to pass easily at the end, or to have an easy time during the term and cry your eyes out at the end... you must think it through.”

”The unspeakable cannibalistic demon king passed by Lin Zhong Lake!” The stick figure behind the door suddenly shouted again, startling everyone in the classroom once more.

”What madness is it spouting!” Xin Fat Man turned his head towards the door’s direction in the classroom, finding nothing unusual, couldn’t help grumbling: ”I’ll draw a tigress beside it later, scratch it to death, see if it dares to chatter every day.”

”Who knows.” Zheng Qing crumpled the freshly filled mulberry paper into a ball, absentmindedly responded.

”What do you plan to elect?” The fat wizard withdrew his gaze, looked at the young scholarship student, and resumed the previous topic: ”With the Elders or with us?”

He naturally grouped himself with Xiao Xiao.

”I’m not quite sure yet.” Zheng Qing hesitated, instinctively glancing at the front row of the classroom. Unlike the noisy chatting warlocks, the witches sitting in the front row were earnestly previewing the new courses for tomorrow, one after another, their learning attitudes shameful.

”Not quite sure?” Xin Fat Man mimicked Zheng Qing’s response with a peculiar tone, his two eyebrows dancing, squeezing around his broad pancake face, immediately made Zheng Qing feel a urge to snip them off.

He took a deep breath.

Then exhaled slowly.

”What I mean is, I’m planning to minor in magical creatures.” The young scholarship student pleasantly looked at the fat man, with perfectly valid reasoning: ”After all, in addition to a fox, I now also have a dog, a snake, and a group of sprites. Learning more knowledge about magical creatures couldn’t hurt, right?”
