High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1865: Chapter 86: Merlin’s Initial

Dylan is still snoring away in his coffin.

Xiao Xiao hasn’t returned to the dormitory, and Fat Man is very suspicious of his whereabouts. But considering the time of day, Fat Man doubts his own doubts, feeling that Mister Sima wouldn’t mess around with the Doctor to such an extent.

As for the time, when Zheng Qing woke up, it was already 5 PM, less than two hours until the evening class meeting.

Hehe!

The little sprites next to the pillow were startled awake, fluttering their wings, and started circling around Zheng Qing. Some of the more agile ones had already darted into the washroom and, in no time, brought out steaming towels and toothpaste and a toothbrush, presenting them to the warlock.

The young cost student awkwardly accepted the goodwill from the sprites.

”Tsk, a decadent and degenerate lifestyle like a young master.”

Xin Fat Man sat perched on the bed, enviously watching Zheng Qing spit mouthwash into a spittoon held by a sprite, then glanced at the Fat Cat licking its paws on his bed, sighing: ”...Why is there such a big gap between magical creatures?”

Tuan Tuan gave Fat Man a sidelong glance, lifted a paw to pick up another beef jerky from the box beside him, stuffed it in his mouth, and continued munching nonchalantly.

Furry Bean thought it was being talked about, happily jumped to the side of Fat Man’s bed, sticking out its tongue and making a pleasing sound from its throat. Xin Fat Man sighed again, picked out a sufficiently large piece of jerky, and tossed it to Gouzi.

”They like to do this. I can’t refuse their kindness.” The young cost student shrugged innocently, sniffed a few times, much like a large Furry Bean: ”...Is there anything to eat? I’m starving!”

”Roll to the cafeteria yourself!”

The Fat Wizard waved his hand dismissively, full of displeasure: ”Do you think you’re a cat or Gouzi? Even the sprites are much more useful than you... They spent the entire summer helping in the shop, what about you?”

Zheng Qing knew about this too. The entire summer, due to his recovery, the sprites stayed in the small shop opened by the Absolution Hunting Team on the Pedestrian Street, until Xiao Xiao brought them back to room 403 from D&K.

”This isn’t my fault, I didn’t like lying in the hospital either.” The young cost student mumbled, ultimately lacking the courage to snatch jerky from his own Gouzi.

”What time do you plan to go to the classroom?” he asked another question instead.

Because before the evening class meeting, we also need to submit the elective course list for the new academic year, so everyone will go to the classroom a bit earlier. Students who are close friends will discuss and choose the same elective courses together.

Zheng Qing was no exception.

He didn’t want to muddle through choosing a class only to find there’s no one he knows in it—this way, not only would there be no hope of skipping class, but he wouldn’t even have anyone to copy homework from, which is a dismal thought.

”After these two pigs are full.”

Fat Man gloomily looked at the food box in front of him, suddenly looked up, and stared at the young cost student who was adjusting his belt in front of the dressing mirror: ”To be honest, Tuan Tuan is one thing, but this dog is clearly yours. Why do I have to take care of it too? Shouldn’t you pay for the food costs?”

He was answered by the sight of Zheng Qing quickly slipping out of the dormitory and Gouzi making a fawning meow.

The Fat Wizard pathetically patted his own belly, feeling the flesh ripple, watched as Gouzi wagged its happy tail, and finally picked up another piece of jerky, tossing it into Gouzi’s mouth.

Hehe!

After attending to Zheng Qing’s washing and dressing, the sprites swarmed forward like a flock of sparrows, perching everywhere on the Fat Wizard’s headboard. Out of necessity, the Fat Wizard unwillingly took out a small bottle of dew and, full of grievances, acted as the sprites’ caretaker.

Zheng Qing, who had slipped out of the dormitory, had no idea that his sprites had entangled Xin Fat Man again, and even if he did, he would pretend not to see or hear them.

Tommorow is the official start of the school year, and today the atmosphere at the academy is very lively, with senior wizards in various colored robes strolling around campus in groups.

There are also wealthy clubs that have already set up scrims to warm up for new semester recruitment.

After having dinner and wandering around, by the time Zheng Qing arrived at the east side of the teaching building, room 601, it was already 6:30 PM, and most of his classmates were already there.

The other warlocks from the Absolution Hunting Team were, as usual, sitting at the back left by the window, while Jiang Yu was, as always, sitting front and center with a thick textbook on the desk in front of her.

After greeting Li Meng, who was holding her textbook with a vacant expression, Zheng Qing smiled and looked at Jiang Yu: ”You guys came really early... Have you decided which courses to choose?”

The witch looked nonchalant: ”Magical creatures.”

”Is it the campus-wide elective on Wednesday afternoon?” Zheng Qing asked instinctively to confirm: ”What course did you choose for the Thursday afternoon elective?”

Jiang Yu finally looked up and gave him a careful look.

”The Thursday afternoon ’University Life Planning’ is a fixed course taught on a class basis.” She explained uncharacteristically: ”It’s nominally an elective, but the assessment methods are based on electives, making it easier... If you had seriously read the schedule, you wouldn’t ask such questions.”

Zheng Qing distinctly felt the teasing gazes from the other witches nearby, mumbled a few words, and then hastily retreated to the back of the classroom.

”You’re really late.”

Xiao Xiao moved inward, leaving a chair open for him: ”...Why didn’t you chat more up front? We just bet if you’d sit in the front row.”

Zheng Qing would not fall into such a trap in a topic like this.

”I’m just a bit late; some people haven’t returned to the dorm all day.” The young cost student immediately retorted, glancing at a certain big Doctor: ”I even bet with Fat Man whether you’d rent a place in Beta Town this semester!”

”I never made such a bet with him.”

Having lost many pieces of jerky, the Fat Wizard turned around and sold Zheng Qing out completely, while pointing a finger, tapping on the desk in front of Zheng Qing: ”You ran too fast earlier... When are we going to calculate the food costs?”

He actually hadn’t forgotten about this!

As Zheng Qing griped in his heart, he mumbled, ”Such matters... will be settled slowly... With such a large shop in Pedestrian Street... you’ll definitely get your share... What were you discussing before? You seemed quite serious about it!”

He decisively changed the subject.

Fat Man wanted to say more, but Zhang Ji Xin squeezed in, slapped a piece of paper on the table in front of Zheng Qing. The warlock looked down and saw it was an autopsy report of an ogre corpse. In dense small print, it detailed many terms, with large sections inked out, obviously content not meant for disclosure.

”We were just discussing that Two-headed Ogre we hunted at the trial meeting.” Red-faced Male Wizard lowered his voice and quickly shared with Zheng Qing the intelligence they’d gathered about those ogres.

With the fragmented hints from the student council, teaching assistants, and the campus newspaper’s editorial office, along with this autopsy report from the School Works Committee, the young wizards readily came to a conclusion—there are stubborn wizards causing trouble, and the capital ’M’ on the ogre’s spine is the biggest proof.

Because the first letter of Merlin is M.
