High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1851: Chapter 72: Silent Confrontation

Blackhand raised his right hand.

He stared at the quiet camp not far away, his eyes slightly narrowed, revealing a hint of suspicion and uncertainty. Although from a distance, the camp seemed calm and peaceful, no different from when they left—it even had ogres waving their arms and cheering for their return at the entrance.

But for some unknown reason, as Blackhand watched that jubilant fellow, he couldn’t shake off a sense of unease, causing the four lumps behind his head to throb one after another.

This is not a good omen.

As an ogre, one can disbelieve the companions who grew up with them, disbelieve the vague prophecies of the shaman elders, even disbelieve their own eyes, but one must trust their innate intuition.

Because eyes can deceive, companions can betray, shaman prophecies can be misleading, but only intuition consistently guides.

The ordinary ogre warriors following behind the two-headed ogre all stopped, looking at the leader’s back with awe and unease. The grayish light of the sky fell on Blackhand’s black hand, shimmering like obsidian, giving a sense of invincibility.

Originally, Blackhand wasn’t named this—fact is, he forgot what he used to be called—since arriving in this world, when his new head had fully awakened, he named himself to distinguish from the nameless idiots of the tribe.

Thinking of those idiots, Blackhand frowned and turned around.

The ogres stood in a loose formation, striking a stark contrast with the cold, sharp, precise battle formations in his blurred memory. He had done his best, but perhaps due to the influence of this world, the ogres of this tribe always struggled to control their innate impulses.

Noticing the leader’s cold gaze, the rustling noise in the team immediately vanished completely. Those lacking this awareness had long become everyone’s dinner.

Blackhand withdrew his gaze, a flash of satisfaction in his heart.

To train this ragtag group to such a degree in less than a week was already the pinnacle of the dual effects of death and worship. Although not yet strict, he couldn’t demand more.

He casually picked two subordinates standing at the end of the team, signaling them to scout ahead to the camp. The two foolish big guys handed the wild boar on their shoulders to their companions, patted their chests vigorously, then dragged their heavy wooden clubs, taking heavy steps, panting loudly, shouting as they ran towards the ogre camp not far away.

...

...

”That guy is more cunning than we thought!”

Zheng Qing stared at the two figures approaching, frowning slightly: ”He actually sent two ogres to scout ahead... is there no problem with our illusion array?”

He turned to look at Jiang Yu, who was carefully adjusting the array plate.

The witch had no time to speak when Li Meng, standing beside her, took a step forward aggressively, her short fingers almost poking Zheng Qing’s nostrils: ”Are you questioning our professionalism? Hmm?”

Zheng Qing slightly leaned back, glancing at the little witch still holding the one-eyed crow, not feeling an ounce of professionalism from her.

”There should be no problem.”

Jiang Yu looked up, pulled Li Meng back, then smiled at Zheng Qing: ”Ordinary ogres are very dull in sensing magic power, not much better than a trickster... and the effects of those skulls of glory are much better than I expected.”

”Even if something goes wrong, it doesn’t matter.” Zhang Ji Xin tugged at his gloves, then squatted down, started to bind the armor horse charm to his leg: ”The first principle of hunting is to never expect the prey to fall into the trap on its own.”

”How many first principles are there?” Xin Fat Man quipped.

”All principles are first principles.” The red-faced male wizard responded solemnly: ”Any advice summarized by the elders in the hunting ground deserves our meticulous adherence.”

This conversation allowed the ambushed young wizards to feel slightly relaxed.

Zheng Qing raised Zhang Ji Xin’s single-tube brass telescope, observing the distant two-headed ogre pausing, suddenly recalling the black tide assault at Beta Town last semester.

Then he remembered those majestic horse-men and an interesting topic discussed at the time, subconsciously narrowing his eyes.

”Do you guys think two-headed ogres have two spines?”

The young student of no cost stared at the distant prey for a while, suddenly tilted his head, quietly asked his nearby companions: ”Wouldn’t that be unstable? Also, wouldn’t it be difficult for two arms to exert force?”

The other young wizards in the Absolution Hunting Team all turned sideways, even Xiao Xiao, who was chanting phrases while holding the crystal ball, paused, causing the scene on the crystal ball to blur.

Li Meng crossed one arm over her chest, pinching her chin with the other, lost in thought: ”I haven’t even considered this question... But I know Su Ya helped the school straighten out the twin-tailed squirrels. Their spine ends fork, extending different tail bones. Based on this, I think the two-headed ogres’ spine should be tree-like, with a fork at a certain section.”

The one-eyed crow crouching at the little witch’s feet originally had its neck tucked in, seemingly asleep. But suddenly hearing the young wizards’ discussion, it woke up, tilted its head, looking at the young student of no cost, seeming to wonder what he was thinking at such a tense moment.

”The structure of the two-headed ogres is quite complex, divided into different classifications based on evolutionary pathways, it’s hard to explain briefly.”

Xiao Xiao, worthy of the title of big doctor, ended the issue in a few words: ”...if you’re really curious, you might as well dissect it carefully when catching that ogre.”

That’s indeed a good idea.

The other companions, including Zheng Qing, all shifted their focus back to the distant wandering two-headed ogres, their eyes scanning, already thinking about where to start with the dissecting knife easier.

Then, noise came from outside the gate.

That was the sound of the two scouting ogres battling against the air with their wits and courage. They patted their chests, greeted the non-existent sentry at the camp entrance, boasted about the morning’s hunting process, bragged about their catch, everything seemed so normal.

The young wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team collectively breathed a sigh of relief—including Zhang Ji Xin—able to more easily ambush these ogres, no one wanted to chase them in the wild for dozens or even hundreds of miles.

Then the two ogres swaggered into the camp.

Approaching the main tent.

A small snakehead suddenly emerged from Zheng Qing’s ear, flicking its tongue, looking at the two ogres. Almost at the same time, the young student of no cost suddenly had a sense of anxiety.
