High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1873: Chapter 94: Carmen

The black cat giving the white cat a gemstone wasn’t out of courtesy or the joy of a reunion after a long time—mind you, it had only been less than ten days since they last met in the tree.

That pale blue cat’s eye was a gift, much like the bouquet Doctor Xiao held up on the pedestrian street, meant to compensate for the regret of Valentine’s Day.

The black cat thought of ’using a cat to present a gift’ thanks to Dylan mentioning a debate during last Valentine’s Day when several warlocks from the Absolution Hunting Team mocked him on the pedestrian street, sparking inspiration in the young cost student.

Last Valentine’s Day coincided with the start of the semester in early February, and the cat fruit tree also had a ’tribute’ then; that time, the little white cat took away an emerald.

That moment and this moment were just alike, and the repeated process again highlighted the ’ceremony’ beyond ordinary gifts. Zheng Qing, understanding this, couldn’t help but clap his hands and silently praise his own cleverness.

Except he didn’t expect the little white cat to have such a big appetite, actually using one paw to swipe away that small pile of gemstones.

Not polite at all.

The black cat grumbled silently, forcing itself to turn its head and not look at the dazzling ’stones’ in the white cat’s arms. Noticing the black cat’s concession, the white cat’s mouth curled slightly, instantly making the few gemstones before it appear even more splendid.

...

...

Early in the morning, after a string of life-stealing rapid-fire questioning from Xiao Xiao, Zheng Qing recalled the sad yet joyful experiences of last night, feeling an indescribable mix of emotions.

Thus, he shut himself off.

Xiao Xiao wanted to ask more but found the young cost student had already closed his eyes, assumed a stance, and started his set of ’Unarmed’ moves.

The little warlock could only shrug and start his morning routine as well.

Then, until the first class began, before Old Yao walked into the classroom, the Absolution Hunting Team diviner never got a second chance to inquire about the cat fight.

Because there was a new student in class.

Everyone’s attention was focused on the new student, and no one cared about the cats fighting.

However, everyone had different focuses—the witches cared about the new student’s mysterious makeup; most of the warlocks’ attention was drawn to the new student’s exposed arms, pretty face, and slender figure; and Zheng Qing was more interested in the new student’s identity.

Because the new student was a Gypsy witch.

”Confirmed, confirmed, she’s called Carmen, no surname, just ’Carmen’.”

Xin Fat Man fully leveraged his advantage as a journalist, obtaining crucial news before others cautiously observed the witch: ”...It’s said she’s a new exchange student dispatched by The Gypsy Witch Coven, replacing Elena’s spot at the First University.”

As he spoke, he cautiously glanced at Zheng Qing’s expression.

The young cost student stared motionlessly at ”Standard Spells - University Second Grade” spread open before him, seemingly previewing today’s lessons.

But anyone could see he was staring blankly, with thoughts that had flown somewhere else entirely.

”Among ten Gypsy witches, one or two are bound to be called Carmen; simply from the name, you can’t discern much information.”

Zhang Ji Xin at this moment surprisingly displayed wisdom, analyzing matter-of-factly: ”Enrollment spots at First University are very valuable, and The Gypsy Witch Coven has no reason to let a dropout witch waste a spot for nothing... My brother said the school’s roster determined the new student’s name during the summer break and enrolled with this year’s freshmen.”

”Can a roster name be ’determined’?” Xin Fat Man questioned.

It’s well-known that the First University’s roster isn’t controlled by witches; young wizards with sufficient potential and ability will be included. The school’s independent admission exam is partly to screen these young people’s traits and also serves as a preliminary assessment for subsequent teaching arrangements, not fully confirming the admission list through the exam.

”Normally, no.”

Doctor Xiao adjusted his glasses and softly replied: ”But there are exceptions to everything. Just like transfer students, every year the school’s roster always has some names vacated for various reasons, and vacant spots are not to be wasted... So occasionally there will be transfer student spots used by the school to placate certain forces in the Alliance.”

Involving transactions between First University and the Mage Alliance is beyond what these young wizards can casually discuss, ending the topic, the few boys immediately fell silent.

Yet low discussions in the classroom still rose and fell, continuously reaching their ears.

”...Why didn’t Old Yao mention this during yesterday’s class meeting?” A classmate not far away softly questioned the new student’s identity: ”Did she really not walk into the wrong class?”

”Definitely not.”

Seizing the opportunity from others’ queries, Xin Fat Man spoke again, softly telling a few friends: ”I heard from Carmen, the elders of the witch coven handed her the admission notice just days ago; only at midnight she used a special channel to enter Buji Island... Not having time to greet everyone is reasonable.”

”As for Old Yao’s lack of introduction, perhaps in the eyes of a Legendary Great Wizard, trifling matters of transfer students coming and going don’t deserve excessive attention.”

The boys once again fell silent.

Seizing the chance to flip through books, Zheng Qing quickly glanced at the corner where the Gypsy witch sat—like Elena, she had a head of rich, slightly curled long hair, with matching temperament; only, compared to Elena, the witch named Carmen’s makeup was noticeably heavier, her gaze under the dark eye shadow was like two deep pools, profound and captivating.

”The great Legendary Wizard is about to reach His loyal classroom!”

The stick figure at the door suddenly weakly announced, then quieted down—the lesson from last night seemed very deep; until now, it was still lethargic, its silhouette faded considerably, no one knew if it was covered by chalk dust or for some other reason.

Upon hearing the stick figure’s report, brief chaos followed before the buzzing in the classroom immediately ceased, replaced by a cacophony of page-turning sounds.

Moments later, Professor Yao’s familiar footsteps echoed down the corridor.

”Good day, students!”

The professor hurriedly walked into the classroom with his lecture notes, casually waved downward, and almost immediately immersed himself in teaching: ”No need for greetings, sit, all of you sit... No more chit-chat... Entering second grade, your study pressure will increase, this stage of spell learning won’t stick to ’formulas’ but will go deeper, starting from discussing certain specific ’characters’ in spells, to deepen your understanding of spells.”

”At this stage, the intersection and fusion among the basic subjects of curse studies, magic script studies, talisman studies will become very apparent. That’s why I required you to master these courses last semester, as this is a recurring issue, one poor subject will drag down the learning progress of the others... Any questions?”

He put down the lecture notes in his hand, curiously looking at Jiang Yu raising his hand in the front row.
