High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1892: Chapter 113: End of the First Zhou Week

”At present, the specific news about the Black Prison battle is still spreading vaguely within a small circle. I guess some influential figures at the school or the Alliance are suppressing it to avoid us, a couple of big and small cats, from being devoured by the hyenas outside... Otherwise, just based on what our hunting team witnessed on the Black Prison battlefield, and our experience in large-scale battles and exploration of otherworlds, it would be enough to make Absolution the most dazzling star hunting team of this freshman season.”

”Even so, as long as someone with a mind to—like Lin Yan—wants to inquire, the information is not tightly guarded. Just like a flood dragon floating in the Cloud Sea, there will always be a fragment that is exposed.”

”So thinking about selling Absolution, is definitely not a trivial matter.”

Listening to Xiao Xiao’s analysis, Zheng Qing subconsciously imagined a scene on the African prairie where a group of hyenas swarmed, dragging down a buffalo, eviscerating it, pulling out its intestines in a bloody scene, and couldn’t help but shiver, shaking his head repeatedly.

”It’s not that exaggerated, it’s not that exaggerated.”

The young scholarship student comforted himself, yet he knew deep down that Doctor Xiao’s words were not exaggerated. His gaze fell on the paper cranes hovering around, feeling even more melancholic: ”You are the diviner of Absolution and responsible for much of Absolution’s management work... Reassuring the correspondents is also part of your duty!”

Xiao Xiao did not refuse, but instead showed interest by catching a pink paper crane from behind Zheng Qing’s shoulder—it had just been jostled down from the air by a few larger paper cranes—but before he could unfold it, the pink paper crane struggled desperately, on the verge of bursting into self-immolation, forcing Doctor Xiao to let go immediately.

”Which other letters need a reply?” he turned to Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing took that pink paper crane from his hand. Once it sensed Zheng Qing’s aura, the pink paper crane immediately calmed down, raising its wings with restraint, indicating that the warlock could open it.

While opening the letter, Zheng Qing briefly summarized: ”A lot... For instance, the Club Union sent a letter reminding us that if we are to sell Absolution, a series of prerequisites must be met—such as announcing publicly, providing the voting results of the entire Absolution Knight Order, amending the club’s charter, confirming the team members, and so on—so we need to reply to the Club Union that Absolution is not for sale.”

”Another example is the Judgement Hunting Team also sent a letter, hoping to acquire Absolution with a slightly lower premium than Lin Yan’s offer, and of course, they stated they could accept no less than three main hunters from Absolution transferring to Judgement... these conditions make me almost want to sell Absolution. It would be a way to earn money and enter a higher-level team.”

”There are also a few unfamiliar individuals from our college who sent letters—threatening that if I sell Absolution to the people from Alpha, they will curse me with the most vicious spell. Would this count as a personal threat? But it feels a bit cowardly to complain to the school just over a few words... I need to think carefully about how to seriously but courteously give them a verbal lesson.”

While speaking, the young scholarship student finally unfolded the pink paper crane and started reading it. Only a few seconds later, his face visibly flushed with a speed fast enough to catch the eye.

”What does this letter say?” Doctor Xiao stood on tiptoe, very curiously leaning over.

The young scholarship student crushed the pink paper letter into a ball with lightning speed, holding it up high, shouted somewhat exasperated: ”How can you just casually read someone else’s letters?”

Xiao Xiao, taken aback by the fast change of expression, reluctantly replied, ”You asked me to help you reply to the letters, did you not?”

”But you can’t just read every letter!” Zheng Qing swiftly twisted the crumpled ball into a handful of fine ash, glaring at Doctor Xiao with little confidence.

Xiao Xiao looked at him thoughtfully.

”Whatever.”

He adjusted his glasses, with an expression of being defeated by reality: ”New semester, new classmates, new stories... and you always find your way back onto old paths. I hope you can dodge as effortlessly in front of Jiang Da Headmaster.”

...

...

Paper cranes inquiring about the sale of Absolution continued to occasionally emerge from the void during the Sunday night class meeting, landing on Zheng Qing’s shoulder.

And Zheng Qing was already adept at guessing the origins of those paper cranes.

For instance, paper cranes folded from single-colored mulberry paper typically carried the concerns of friends; those made with luxurious gold and silver notes belonged to the affluent large clubs or commerce associations; and school and student union’s paper cranes were folded in a square, regular shape, with even the cranes’ eyes dotted perfectly aligned without any deviation.

As for that pink confession letter, Zheng Qing swore he only received one. But every time he emphasized this, Xiao Xiao would always look at him with a skeptical gaze, a contemptuous smile appearing on his face.

”Do you know that kind of smile really makes people want to hit you?”

Zheng Qing muttered angrily, counting the words on his trial report, as he shook his sore wrist—having replied to too many letters over the weekend, to the point that the trial report that should have been handed in before the meeting had just been finished—and with the shaking, a string of beautiful little ink drops sprayed from the tip of the feather pen he held onto, splattering along the edge of his parchment report.

This made the young man even more frustrated.

”Maybe,” Xiao Xiao replied, supporting his chin with one hand, lazily flipping through the notebook in front of him, seeming to hum out this answer with his nose.

”Those finishing assignments! Those daydreaming! Those dozing off!”

”Please pay a bit more attention!”

On the podium, Professor Yao tapped his pipe heavily on the lecture desk, making a clanging sound, immediately drawing the attention of the students below the stage back to him.

Zheng Qing clearly felt the professor’s gaze glance over him, he straightened up in alert, quietly shifting the parchment report under his elbow inward a bit.

This was the third class meeting he had organized in more than half a month—once before the trials began, the second briefly after trials ended prior to the official start of the term, and now this one, at the end of the first week of classes.

Professor Yao had repeated the carthouse words about ’study hard, improve every day’ countless times, so during today’s meeting, he also seemed somewhat weary. After briefly reviewing the feedback from professors of various subjects over the week, he primarily urged everyone to pay attention to ’refocus’ ’the summer break has ended’ ’junior year is just around the corner’ and so on, which nearly lulled the students below into slumber.

When the sound of the desktop being knocked awoke everyone, they all perked up, eyes wide open, expecting Old Yao to announce something important.

But as soon as he opened his mouth, it was still the old familiar topic of safety issues—safety in the laboratory, safety during spell practice, safety when walking near Lin Zhong Lake, and safety when dealing with fishmen or other magical creatures, among others.

But soon, Old Yao shifted the topic, mentioning some complaints recently received by the school.
