High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1855: Chapter 76: The One-Eyed Raven

There are many ravens near the trial field.

For example, when Zheng Qing and others were dropped from the sky on the first day of the trial, they passed through a ’cloud layer’ made of ravens, who were kept by the school over the trial camp as a ’safety net’ for the young wizards.

In just six days, Zheng Qing saw too many ravens near the trial camp—alive, dead, rotten, dried, two-headed, three-tailed, single-winged, cow-patterned, pure white, and so on, in various colors and shapes, truly eye-opening.

Therefore, when Jiang Yu picked up a one-eyed raven in the Ogre camp and tossed it to Li Meng, everyone in the Atonement Hunting Team, including Xiao Xiao, thought it was no big deal.

It’s not like they hadn’t seen ravens before; at most, a one-eyed raven was just a bit rare—in contrast, Li Meng wouldn’t be interested in running around for common kinds.

This slightly negligent mindset seemed particularly foolish when the one-eyed raven croaked out the curse ’Devolve’ with a hoarse voice, catching the two-headed ogre off guard.

Everyone knew they were in a trial field; everyone also knew that the trial field was fraught with danger, and any unknown creature might pose an uncontrollable threat to them. But seeing the ’friendly’ faces of the ravens so often, the young wizards subconsciously let down their guard.

This was a huge misstep, and a flash of regret crossed the mind of the Atonement Hunting Team’s captain.

Of course, now was not the time for reflection.

Seeing the two-headed ogre weakened all over by the curse of decay from the one-eyed raven, with the red glow on the five lumps under its chin and behind its head suddenly dimming, Zheng Qing immediately seized the fleeting opportunity, pointed a finger, and shouted:

”Haste!”

The blue snake that had just swallowed the sky’s thunderbolts twisted gracefully, drawing an elegant arc in mid-air, transforming into a streak of light that, at lightning speed, pierced the ogre’s skull from top to bottom.

Poof!

The ferocious grin on the two-headed ogre’s face hadn’t even faded, and the cunning in its eyes, along with the countless schemes in its mind, vanished under the swift blue light.

Crack, boom!

Every stone on the earth elemental puppet, which had lost magical control, crackled and then quickly crumbled back into a pile of lifeless little mounds. Huge stones the size of millstones crashed down, sending tremors through everyone’s feet.

”Caw...!”

A green-skinned frog the size of a palm leaped from the ground, and in mid-air, its green skin suddenly expanded and stretched. Upon landing, it had already transformed into a young wizard in a red robe.

”It’s demon art!”

Xiao Xiaolian’s glasses were a bit askew, and his tone was filled with frustration: ”I should have been prepared! It’s one of the most famous dark curses of ogre shaman witchcraft, forcibly transforming a wizard into a frog... I knew it!”

However, the other two young wizards present had no time to comfort the diviner’s bruised confidence.

Jiang Yu rushed to the unconscious Li Meng, took out a jar of jade powder, and directly began tracing an array on the ground to prevent the little witch from losing control.

Zheng Qing stood by the remains of the two-headed ogre, vigilantly watching the one-eyed raven. The blue snake elegantly coiled near the warlock, lightly trembling its scales to shake off the red and white residues clinging to its body.

The one-eyed raven’s lone eye was fixed on the blue snake, full of fear.

Outside the Ogre camp, those blue-white mists hadn’t completely dissipated, and the roars of the Blue Giant and the thunderous fists of Zhang Ji Xin echoed on and on.

”Do you understand shamanic sorcery?”

Xiao Xiao stuffed a picked-up law book into Zheng Qing’s hands, approached the one-eyed raven, crouched down, and carefully scrutinized its eye: ”Don’t play dumb, we all heard you speak earlier... and don’t even think about confusing me.”

As he spoke, the diviner of the Atonement Hunting Team tapped his black-rimmed glasses, crack crack, and then tapped the little turtle shell hanging from his waist, dong dong.

The one-eyed raven remained silent, standing quietly like a stone sculpture.

With Xiao Xiao blocking in front, Zheng Qing finally had a chance to turn around, glance at Jiang Yu, and ask in a low voice: ”How is she? Should we apply to the school for...”

”Not needed for now.”

The witch grasped Li Meng’s wrist with one hand and pinched a bit of jade powder with the other, carefully adjusting the magic circle beneath Li Meng, and replied softly: ”Her state is quite stable now, with no risk of losing control; she should wake up soon... she’s been working very hard at school all year to prove herself, and if she’s eliminated from the trial due to this accident, it would be a huge blow to her.”

The young scholarship student quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

Since Jiang Yu said it was fine, then Li Meng should be safe—next time, he should ask this little girl if she’s a Carrier Rat, as it’s said American carrier rats play dead when they encounter danger, just like her.

With this playful thought, the warlock turned his gaze back to the one-eyed raven; it was the only uncontrollable incident that the young wizards now needed to confront.

The blue snake, swirling in mid-air, caught Zheng Qing’s thought, lightly flipped its tail, and slid down gracefully from mid-air, landing on Zheng Qing’s shoulder. However, this time it did not immediately return to the nook of Zheng Qing’s ear but perched on his shoulder, neck upright, glaring menacingly at the one-eyed raven.

The tension in the air was palpable, making the downy feathers on the one-eyed raven’s neck stand on end.

It finally stopped pretending to be a statue, tilted its head, and glanced at Zheng Qing.

”You are not an ordinary wizard.” Its voice was a bit hoarse, but not unpleasant: ”Ordinary wizards can’t control a creature this terrifying.”

As it spoke, it cautiously glanced at the little snake on Zheng Qing’s shoulder.

The blue snake narrowed its eyes, with its tail drooping on Zheng Qing’s left shoulder and its head perched on Zheng Qing’s right shoulder, flicking its bright red tongue indifferently, as if it were detached from the world.

But everyone knew this was an illusion.

The fallen corpse of the two-headed ogre, with that horrific through-and-through wound on its forehead and the littered red and white debris, all testified against that illusion.

”Who I am is none of your business.”

The young scholarship student looked at the one-eyed raven and responded stiffly: ”Give us a reason to spare you... A crow using ogre shaman sorcery appearing in the trial field, even if we plucked all your feathers and roasted you covered in mud, the people from Danghag wouldn’t bother us.”

Xiao Xiao, with his back to Zheng Qing, discreetly gave a thumbs up.

In contrast, the one-eyed raven’s expression became more bitter, and the downy feathers on its neck that had spiked up in stress collectively wilted.

”I have no bad intentions...” It cawed twice, trying to explain.

”So you should count yourself lucky.” Xiao Xiao immediately interrupted: ”If you had any bad intentions, or posed any risk to the hunting team, you wouldn’t have the chance to talk to us now.”

”We just want to know who you are,” Zheng Qing chimed in, continuing the inquiry: ”Why are you pretending to be a raven? Who taught you shaman sorcery? And why did you ambush that two-headed ogre?”
