High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1869: Chapter 90: Final Exam Results

Zheng Qing quickly filled in the names Jiang Yu and Tang Dun on the voting slip, then crumpled it into a ball and tossed it away. The ball of paper fluttered in the air, extending a slender neck and wings, transforming into a small cyan bird which wobbly flew toward the podium.

Similarly, many classmates did not spend too much thought on electing the monitor but focused their attention on another group of paper cranes flying from the podium into the room. These cranes contained their final exam results inside them. Perhaps it was Old Yao’s wicked sense of humor; as students submitted their voting slips, he also turned everyone’s report cards into paper cranes, which flew off the podium.

In an instant, several dozen paper birds were flying in opposite directions in the small classroom. Occasionally, two of them would collide, eliciting soft exclamations from the witches as they clumsily struggled and flapped their little wings, trying to reach their destinations.

Zheng Qing’s gaze was fixed on the group of paper cranes that had taken off from the podium. He watched as their number dwindled from dozens to a mere handful, until only four remained in the upper corner at the back right of the classroom.

Then he raised his head, watching as the four paper cranes leisurely flapped their wings, each landing on the desk of one of the four Hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team.

One landed in front of him.

Zheng Qing spread open his palm to the paper crane, which elegantly stretched its neck, pecked at the young wizard’s palm, and then opened its wings, turning into a light green grade report in an instant.

Then Zheng Qing froze on the spot.

Because the report card was completely blank.

Just as he hesitated about whether to raise his hand and ask if the wrong sheet had been given, a vague line of text appeared on the light green report card:

—— Jiuyou Academy of First University 2008-2009 Academic Year Upgrade Transcript.

Neat regular script gradually appeared and then vanished, replaced by a smaller line of bold text——the grades on this transcript are calculated on a percentage basis; the total score is out of nine hundred, comprised of regular grades (ten percent), mid-term grades (twenty percent), final written exam grades (thirty-five percent), and final practical grades (thirty-five percent).

(All displayed grades have been totaled by the Final Exam Review Committee. For any questions, please contact your respective advisors, as a written application can be made to retrieve the relevant papers.)

(Student Zheng Qing’s final grades are as follows)

—— Curse Studies: 95 (9+18+33+35)

—— Talisman Studies: 100 (10+20+35+35)

—— Divination: 89 (6+18+30+35)

—— Astronomy: 90 (7+17+32+35)

—— History of Magic: 93 (9+18+31+35)

—— Philosophy of Magic: 90 (9+16+30+35)

—— Magic Potion Making: 91 (8+18+30+35)

—— Life Class: 95 (10+18+32+35)

—— Alchemy: 85 (5+14+31+35)

Total Score (828), Comprehensive Rating (Excellent).

Note: This student did not participate in the final exam’s practical assessment. Based on the student’s appeal regarding the practical assessment and considering multiple first-year practical experiences, the Examination Review Committee of Jiuyou Academy of First University and the Professor Joint Meeting of First University have reviewed and confirmed that the student’s practical performance is excellent and has been scored as full marks.

Zheng Qing pinched the thin report card, carefully calculating each number, especially scrutinizing the final note, which he read over several times with patience. The fear and confusion in his heart finally found relief —— it turned out that his entire final practical exam was marked as full score!

No wonder he was able to surpass Matthew Karen and Tang Dun to once again secure a publicly funded student slot.

Thinking of this, Zheng Qing instinctively looked toward the front row of the classroom, where there were still two other funded students, both ranked ahead of himself!

”That’s insane.” The newly appointed publicly funded student muttered to himself. With his almost cheating level of thirty-five percent in practical performance, he still fell below those two witches, unable to imagine how much higher their other scores were.

”What?” Xiao Xiao tilted his head and gave him a glance.

Zheng Qing immediately retracted his gaze: ”N-nothing, I mean, I got a big advantage in practical performance.”

Saying this, he craned his neck to look at Xiao Xiao’s report card: ”Let me see, what are your other scores... Damn, ruthless!”

Unlike Zheng Qing, who only scored a hundred in one subject, Talisman Studies, Doctor Xiao’s report card with a string of hundreds was particularly glaring. The lowest was ninety-five, so much so that Zheng Qing felt his eyes sting just by glancing at it.

But he couldn’t help taking another look.

”Yeah, these scores are outrageous.” Doctor Xiao took off his black-rimmed glasses and wiped the lenses as he sighed melancholically.

Xin Fat Man struggled to turn around and squeezed next to Zheng Qing, examining the Doctor’s report card together.

”Damn, ruthless!” He echoed the young funded student’s words, simultaneously clenching a fist and shaking it in front of the Doctor: ”And you’re not satisfied with this? Is it because of that funded student slot?”

”If you want it, I’d gladly give it to you!” Zheng Qing vowed solemnly, wiping the corner of his mouth. He really wanted to replace Xiao Xiao’s name on the report card with his own.

Xiao Xiao put his glasses back on his nose and turned to look out the window, his voice becoming increasingly wistful: ”You wouldn’t understand...”

”Understand what?”

Zhang Ji Xin, having just finished inspecting his own report card, turned around and heard the Doctor’s lament. He reached out and grabbed Zheng Qing’s card from his hand, glanced over it, and immediately raised his eyebrows: ”How come your History of Magic is only ninety-five?”

”Damn, is ninety-five low?” Xin Fat Man exclaimed: ”My History of Magic is only in the eighties... ninety-five is one of the top scores in the entire grade level, right?”

”No, no, no, you’re different from the Doctor.” The red-faced male wizard flicked the report card in his hand, giving Xiao Xiao a meaningful look.

Xin Fat Man paused for only a few seconds before he understood: ”Oh, History of Magic is Mister Sima’s class... you’re doomed, Doctor. You scored full marks in so many subjects, but only got ninety-five in history... you’re doomed.”

Thud, thud, thud!

On the podium, Professor Yao tapped the lectern with his knuckles, attracting the attention of the entire class. The low murmuring in the classroom quickly died down.

”If you have any questions about the exam results, give feedback promptly. You only have one week, until next Monday,” Old Yao said, biting his pipe, yet his voice was clear: ”Also, it’s time for those who failed courses to retake the corresponding ones and submit application materials next week. All processes must be completed before the end of next week...”

”Failed?” Zheng Qing looked down at his paper, then turned to his companions: ”Failed means what? Does it mean not passing? With such dispersed weightings, getting a failing grade should be difficult!”

Xin Fat Man gave him a sidelong look: ”Do you know saying things like this can easily get you beaten up?”

”And now for the results of your recent voting!” On the podium, Professor Yao raised his voice slightly to hush the rising murmurs below. He glanced down at the stack of voting slips in his hand: ”...I won’t read out the specific number of votes; the monitors for the 2009-2010 academic year are still Student Tang Dun and Student Jiang Yu. Let’s give them a welcome!”

A scattered, unsurprising applause erupted from the classroom.
