Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 738: Chapter 381: The Lie Exposed

Lawrence Winters tugged at the corner of his mouth, thinking how could it possibly be settled like that?

She knew the old Daoist was teasing her and laughed, ”Alright then, I’ll just offer up these twenty million and see if they continue to appreciate in the future!”

Gabrielle Winters stared at the lotus seal, feeling it was somewhat familiar, like the one she had many years ago.

Back then, to make ends meet, she took the only valuable item she had – this lotus seal – and exchanged it for a hundred-odd bucks with a shabby old fortune-telling Daoist on the street, just managing to hold out until Nick Zeller returned home from his business trip abroad...

Gabrielle squinted her eyes at the old Daoist sitting opposite her.

All these years, she never connected the shabby old Daoist often chased down the street with the celestial sage before her, always putting on the airs of ”immortal grace and worldly wisdom”.

”...Immortal sage, was it you back then?” she tentatively asked.

The old Daoist laughed heartily, slapping the table and winking, ”You’re only remembering now?! Tsk tsk, you’re quite slow, no wonder you made my disciple wait over thirty years to understand his feelings and marry you!”

Gabrielle’s face turned red instantly.

Nick Zeller held her hand under the table with a goofy smile, ”No worries, back then when I couldn’t get a ticket abroad, I was worried about you, so I asked my master to look after you.”

”Did you become his disciple back then?” Gabrielle asked in confusion, ”Didn’t you say it was a ’fortunate coincidence’ when you returned home and apprenticed? How come you knew the sage before returning? And you mentioned that your master’s condition was joining Celestial Path Sect meant no marriage, no children?”

Now it was Nick Zeller’s turn to blush.

He was just wondering how to cover up this lie.

The old Daoist exposed him with a laugh: ”Gabrielle, this was all my disciple’s cunning plan, nothing to do with me! He forced me to make those conditions, insisted I agree to no marriage, no children before he took me as his master! Actually, we at Celestial Master Sect have no such rules!”

Gabrielle had been suspicious for a while now, and with the old Daoist’s confirmation, the joy in her heart spread like honey syrup over a grouper, so sweet she almost melted.

Lawrence Winters was also moved to tears, ”Dad, you’re truly thoughtful about mom. Don’t you plan to have another child? I won’t be home often in the future, you two...”

”No need, having Lawrence as a daughter is enough. I lack the energy to raise another hahahaha. Lawrence, you don’t realize how mischievous you were as a child, dealing with you alone consumed all my patience for children in this lifetime.” Nick Zeller quickly rejected, and nervously glanced at Gabrielle.

Gabrielle wasn’t as absolute as Nick Zeller, she smiled and said, ”Let it be. If we can have a child, we will, if not, we’ll let it go.”

Lawrence Winters nodded repeatedly, promising, ”Don’t worry, mom and dad, if you do have a child, I’ll take good care of them. Whether a little brother or sister, I won’t be like Blake Leaf’s sister!”

Kenneth Osborne, amused and exasperated, stood up with a wine glass, sincerely addressing Gabrielle and Nick Zeller, ”Mom, Dad, thank you for the love and effort you’ve given Nora, I’ll take good care of her going forward, I won’t let you regret it.”

Kenneth, who used to call Gabrielle ”mother-in-law,” today changed that to ”father-in-law,” and now formally called them ”mom and dad,” a change that held significant meaning.

Gabrielle and Nick Zeller exchanged a satisfied smile.

They stood up, raised their glasses to Kenneth, and drank it all together.

Gabrielle laughingly said, ”Lawrence’s dad and I have no other demands, if you two are worried about us being lonely, hurry up and have a child for us to raise, we won’t be lonely!”

Lawrence and Kenneth exchanged a quick glance, realizing both their faces were red.

The two quickly looked away, hearts racing.

The old Daoist picked up his chopsticks, aimed at the roast suckling pig in the center of the table, and gleefully interrupted, ”Lawrence, hurry and eat the roast pig! It’ll lose its tenderness if it gets cold!”

Lawrence snapped back to reality, hurriedly sat down, grabbed her chopsticks, and lunged for the roast pig.

Kenneth Osborne: ”...”

Gabrielle and Nick Zeller chuckled quietly, then sat down as well.

...

An hour and a half later, everyone had eaten to their heart’s content at the wedding feast.

Lawrence Winters was slumped in her chair, finding it difficult even to stand.

She savored the lingering tastes of the dishes, giving the old Daoist a thumbs-up in praise, ”Grandpa, your cooking just keeps getting better! Today’s dishes truly reached a transcendent level, showing extraordinary skill.”

Because this meal, not only did each dish have the perfect flavor, but the whole table was like a systematic project, each dish’s flavor complemented the others, doubling the extraction of umami.

Lawrence couldn’t help herself despite wanting to restrain, she could only join the others in gobbling it down.

Gabrielle also graciously commented, ”Immortal sage, today’s cooking was indeed delicious, reaching a certain realm.”

The old Daoist was extraordinarily pleased, ”Of course it is! I have many impressive skills you all don’t know about!”

”Indeed, indeed, you’re the most impressive!” Lawrence played with the lotus seal made of Tianhuang stone, tossing and catching it, feeling lazy and slightly thirsty.

Kenneth Osborne went to the kitchen, bringing out papaya, bayberry, and hawthorn syrup that the old Daoist had prepared.

This dessert had been chilled in the fridge, perfect for digestion and refreshing, ideal for now.

Lawrence Winters looked at Kenneth, smiling without taking a spoon, just opened her mouth towards him.

Kenneth smiled gently, picked up the small bowl and fed her.

Their gazes never left each other’s eyes.

Nick Zeller watched, feeling uncomfortable, and said to Lawrence with displeasure, ”Lawrence, today’s my wedding feast, not yours, can you restrain yourself?”

”I can’t.” Lawrence winked at him triumphantly, ”If you’re not comfortable, ask mom to feed you...”
