Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 711: Chapter 369: Old Scandals

Mrs. Foster picked up Lawrence Winters from the Foster Tower, where his car was still parked.

However, when they left the gathering place, it was almost ten in the evening.

Mrs. Foster said, ”Lawrence, let me take you home directly. Where do you live?”

Lawrence Winters gave Mrs. Foster the address of the apartment.

Upon arriving, Lawrence didn’t hurry to get out of the car but sincerely said to Mrs. Foster, ”Thank you very much for taking me to the Grand Gala today, but about Mrs. Stetford...”

Mrs. Foster interrupted her with a smile, ”You mean Autumn Stetford? Don’t worry, she’s not that crazy as long as her daughter isn’t around.”

She even winked at Lawrence Winters.

It seemed she was also aware of the situation between Lawrence Winters and Ruby Sheldon.

Lawrence felt relieved and sheepishly said, ”...That’s good, I was just worried that because of me, Mrs. Stetford might create some conflict with you.”

”You’re overthinking it.” Mrs. Foster laughed, covering her mouth, her eyes playful, ”It’s nothing, go home and rest well, don’t let your thoughts wander.”

Lawrence gave Mrs. Foster a smile, then pushed open the car door and got out.

She stood at the community gate, waving at Mrs. Foster, watching her car lights twinkle and gradually fade under the streetlights.

As she turned to walk into the community, she suddenly saw a tall man standing by the cypress tree at the entrance, one hand in his trouser pocket, the other holding a cigarette.

The cigarette butt glowed, and the smell of smoke was quite strong.

Lawrence frowned, recognizing Kenneth Osborne standing there.

”How much have you smoked? Are you trying to kill yourself?” Lawrence couldn’t help rolling her eyes.

Kenneth Osborne threw the cigarette butt into the trash can at the entrance and walked out from the shadows, reaching out his hand to her, ”Nora, let’s go home.”

”What are you doing here? Why didn’t you text me?” Lawrence wondered, then remembered that she had blocked Kenneth Osborne’s number and even muted him on WeChat.

Smelling the strong smoke on Kenneth Osborne, Lawrence blurted out, ”How long have you been smoking?”

”Not long.” Kenneth said blandly, seeing that Lawrence didn’t take his hand, he awkwardly put it in his pocket too.

How could ”not long” result in such a strong smoke smell? — stubborn.

Lawrence made a face in her heart, feeling a bit softened.

The two of them walked into the community together.

Kenneth was silent for a while and said, ”I went to the Foster Clan to pick you up this afternoon, but saw you leaving with Mrs. Foster.”

Lawrence nodded, not hiding it, ”Mrs. Foster took me to the dinner. These noblewomen and second-generation rich have a circle called the Grand Gala, which only major shareholders and company executives can join, started by Mrs. Sheng of Sheng Capital.”

She smiled, ”Actually, I’m not an executive, just a professional woman, but seeing the world is also good. I met Ruby Sheldon’s cousin, Ruby Jade, today, and she’s much easier to get along with than Ruby Sheldon.”

Kenneth knew the Sheldon Family had two brothers in charge.

The eldest brother, Aiden Sheldon, was once the CEO and chairman of Sheldon Family.

He later became just the chairman, and the younger brother, Ethan Sheldon, is now the CEO.

Such a circle was beyond his reach, but he wasn’t envious.

He and those so-called ”old money” folks were from entirely different circles.

They, the ones in high-tech, were the so-called ”new money” in the capital markets.

Back home, after a tense day, they finally relaxed.

Lawrence retreated to her bedroom to take a bath, while Kenneth could only return to his room.

At the same time, in the Spencer Family’s apartment, Kenneth’s mother was scolding Brooke Osborne harshly.

”Oh, Brooke Osborne! You’ve got some nerve, huh! Even trying to take your brother’s money!”

Cameron Spencer was hospitalized, and Brooke Osborne had wanted to come home to rest, but she was caught by her mother, who, after a few questions, started scolding her.

”Mom, I didn’t, I was trying to help Kenneth.” Brooke Osborne hurriedly explained, exhausted, ”Why would I take Kenneth’s money? How could I do that?”

”How couldn’t you?! You and Mr. Spencer rushed here from the Southern Region, weren’t you after that piece of land Kenneth has? If not for you, would Kenneth have backed out?!”

”Brooke Osborne, I’m warning you! If you dare to do anything behind my back to take money from your brother, I won’t let you off!” Kenneth’s mother prodded Brooke Osborne’s right temple hard with her finger, Brooke dared not make a sound, just held her head and dodged aside.

Feeling very wronged, Brooke couldn’t help saying, ”I’ve even prepared this apartment to give to Kenneth, how could I be taking his things?”

”That’s not certain; this is just an apartment, but Kenneth has a lot of land over there!”

Her mother’s temper flared for two hours until she was tired and went to her room to sleep.

Brooke Osborne slumped on the couch, nearly falling asleep.

...

Early the next morning, Kenneth Osborne woke up to prepare breakfast for the Winters Family.

As he entered the kitchen, he discovered the old Daoist was already there, so he said, ”Good morning, Great Sage, anything I can assist you with?”

The old Daoist was making century egg and lean pork congee. Stirring the well-cooked rice porridge with a spoon, he smiled and said, ”Go to the neighborhood entrance and buy some fish fillet congee and pan-fried buns, Lawrence really loves them.”

Kenneth awkwardly smiled and turned to leave.

Although he and Lawrence Winters managed to keep quiet after their argument without showing any signs of it, it seemed to be unnoticed by the old Daoist.

Kenneth never intended to hide anything, his only wish was to keep the elders in the family from worrying.

Lawrence felt the same way.

So when she got up and saw the fish fillet congee and pan-fried buns Kenneth had bought, she cheerfully thanked Kenneth and happily sat down to eat.

After finishing breakfast, Kenneth and Lawrence went downstairs to go to work together.

Lawrence’s car was still parked at The Foster Clan’s building, but she didn’t want to ride in Kenneth’s car and was busy on her phone trying to book a ride.

Kenneth sighed, walked over, and grabbed her arm, saying, ”Nora, don’t be mad anymore. Let me give you a ride to work, okay?”

His tone was a bit soft, and there was a heavy dark under his eyes. He looked at Lawrence with a focus as if she was the only one who mattered in the world.

Lawrence quickly looked up and got caught in Kenneth’s eyes full of affection, and it felt like something inside her was touched.

Her mind got fuzzy, seemingly losing control of her body, and she found herself being confusedly pulled into Kenneth’s car.

By the time she came to her senses, she was already seated in the car, watching as The Foster Clan’s building got closer.

When they arrived downstairs at The Foster Clan’s building, Kenneth smiled while unbuckling her seatbelt, ”Shall I pick you up in the afternoon too? Can you take me off your blacklist?”

Lawrence haughtily ”hmphed” and said, ”I can drive myself, no need for you to pick me up.”

She opened the car door and got out, walking away while secretly taking Kenneth’s number off the blacklist on her phone.

Kenneth blacklisted her once, so she blacklisted him once too, that’s fairness.

She walked to The Foster Clan’s building entrance and saw Edward Foster coming over from the parking lot direction.

Edward also saw Kenneth’s car and saw Lawrence getting out of Kenneth’s car, which made him a bit disheartened.

But when he glimpsed Lawrence’s charmingly smiling face, he instantly got motivated again.

”Lawrence, how was the party last night? I heard from my mother that you were awesome, putting that girl Autumn Stetford brought in her place?”

Lawrence rubbed her forehead, embarrassingly saying, ”Well... if she hadn’t been rude first, I wouldn’t have retaliated. If anyone is to blame, it’s that Stetford lady. Luckily Ruby Sheldon didn’t attend yesterday, otherwise, Mrs. Foster might have been dragged into it.”

”No worries. Autumn was actually rational, she wouldn’t dare act against my mother.” Edward winked at her, leaned in closer, and whispered, ”Want to hear some old gossip?”

”Of course!” Lawrence’s eyes lit up like fine ink.

”Haha, my mom was the matchmaker for Autumn Stetford and Aiden Sheldon, do you think she’d dare be mad at my mom?” Edward laughed heartily and walked into The Foster Clan building’s revolving door alongside Lawrence.

Kenneth sat in the car, silently watching Edward and Lawrence walk closely side by side, brushing past each other and whispering something that made Lawrence smile covering her mouth.

...What’s so fun about that?!

Kenneth clenched his fists and punched the steering wheel before fiercely stepping on the accelerator and speeding away.

Lawrence widened her eyes in disbelief, ”What? Mrs. Foster was the matchmaker for Autumn and Aiden Sheldon? What is going on?”

”I heard it from my dad. The Sheldon Family was friends with my mom’s family, they knew each other since childhood. Later, my mom went to study abroad and met Autumn Stetford, they became close friends. Autumn came to visit my mom in this country and met Aiden Sheldon, then...”

Edward made two finger-running gestures.

Lawrence understood, and said in astonishment, ”You mean, Autumn Stetford was the one chasing Aiden Sheldon? That person seems extremely reserved and elegant, it’s hard to believe she would take the initiative to pursue someone.”

”Haha, I was also surprised when I heard it. But my mom’s family and the Sheldon Family initially planned for them to marry, and they apparently dated for a while. My dad is still jealous about it, so I trust my dad’s words, because only a sympathizer can understand a sympathizer’s humility!” Edward spoke with a double entendre, his eyes glimmering as he looked at Lawrence.

Lawrence totally missed Edward’s metaphor of ”sympathizer,” just remembering the lofty demeanor of Autumn Stetford that seemed to disdain all worldly matters, she couldn’t picture her actively chasing someone.

She laughed even harder, ”Little Foster, you really have a sharp tongue. If the Stetford lady heard this, wouldn’t she tear you apart?”

”Haha, of course, I wouldn’t dare say it aloud! But I’m just speaking the truth!”

”Hey, wait a minute,” Lawrence suddenly frowned, ”So when Autumn Stetford started pursuing Aiden Sheldon, were he and your mom still in a relationship?”

Edward pursed his lips tightly, wishing he hadn’t let slip that extra sentence earlier!

Truly, the more you say, the more mistakes you make!

The ancients never failed to teach us!
