Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1382 - 693: Incredibly Lucky!

The monster just stood there without moving.

And every turret in the venue had its muzzle aimed at it, every mechanical little jellyfish was staring at this half-human, half-invader monster.

The situation froze for a moment.

”How do you think it dodged all those artillery shells? It’s not even wearing any kind of protective suit...”

Zeng Tao sized the monster up curiously, asking in a low voice. She hadn’t had much contact with monsters; she could count the times she’d met one on one hand.

”No idea.” Xu Ying was also puzzled. ”Maybe it teleported away and then teleported back?”

In the entire space, the thick Red Mist was spreading from the side where it had been released toward the other side.

The spread wasn’t fast, but that dense fog, so thick that you couldn’t see anything clearly even a meter away, was enough to make people’s hearts clench.

In the end, the dense mist still spread to the spot at the center of the underground space where the crimson crystal was.

And a few seconds after the crimson crystal came into contact with the thick mist, its glow actually started to grow gradually brighter!

The red light, which had already been almost impossible to look at directly—so harsh it hurt the eyes even through sunglasses—now flared like a red flashbang, making Xu Xin and the others squint instantly.

”This... this is what happens when the Red Mist and the crimson crystal appear at the same time?” Wen Guixin raised a hand to shield her eyes.

The Red Mist also seemed to grow thicker and more blood-red at that instant, and its rate of spread suddenly sped up a lot.

In just a few seconds, the dense Red Mist had already spread to where Xu Xin and the others were.

In an instant, they were all shrouded inside the Red Mist.

At that moment, Xu Xin and the others could only see silhouettes within a meter of them. The turrets scattered across the ground, the mechanical little jellyfish, and the monster were all gone from sight.

All blocked out by the thick Red Mist.

And the section of crimson crystal under their feet suddenly flared as the thick Red Mist rolled over it.

Next, everyone felt a wave of intense discomfort!

Dizzy, vision spinning, heads splitting, as if something were about to bore its way out of their skulls!

The transparent film draped over their bodies—wasn’t working anymore?!

”Hiss—!” Zhao Xiaochuan immediately clutched his head.

”Ah, damn it!” Wang Lei’s body swayed; his nearly two-meter-tall frame almost toppled.

”The stuff we’ve got draped on us can’t block it anymore!” Wen Guixin gritted her teeth, pressing her hands to her head.

”My head... it hurts...! Ah! Don’t you fall over!” Zeng Tao grabbed hold of Lou Fei’Er, whose body was going limp, but nearly fell herself, while Jin Yue beside them was also swaying.

On the faces of the three, under the shroud of Red Mist, faint blood-red patterns seemed to reappear!

The Blood Pattern Bloodline lurking in their bodies was about to awaken again!

”Mm...” Beside Xu Xin, Li Wenxi leaned against her.

”Should we get out of here and hide for a bit...” Qin Fu’s head was pounding and muddled; he wanted to sit down, but when he remembered the crimson-glowing culprit beneath his feet, he forced himself to stand and speak.

He’d gone through Blood Pattern mutation himself, and his condition was extremely bad.

At that moment, Xu Ying grabbed both of their arms.

The situation was complicated now, and she wanted to get everyone out!

”Yip!” Keke suddenly poked its little head out from under the Cloak of the Concealer. ”Yip! Yip-yip!”

Its little claws waved, scrunching up the transparent film draped over Xu Xin’s body.

Xu Xin understood instantly, grabbed Xu Ying’s hand, and said, ”Wait!”

Then he called out to the others, ”Everyone, put on all three sheets of film!”

Though their heads were splitting, they could still hear clearly. One by one, they hastily took out their remaining two transparent films and draped them over themselves.

”Cover your mouth and nose, we’re going down.” Xu Xin led the way, running toward the edge of the crimson crystal.

Even though the Red Mist obscured everything, the extremely bright crimson crystal was still vaguely visible.

Also, thanks to this dense Red Mist blocking part of the crystal’s light, the glow that filtered through the mist was, compared to the crystal’s previous radiance, almost unchanged.

Everyone jumped down off the crimson crystal.

After that, the pain in their heads gradually faded.

”Huh? It really is a lot better!” Zeng Tao rubbed her head, whispering in delight.

”Phew...” Lou Fei’Er steadied herself, speaking with lingering fear. ”Just now I felt a surge of manic rage inside, I almost went at you guys...”

”I felt that too,” Jin Yue murmured.

”That’s the bloodthirsty instinct from the mid- to low-level mutant creature stage, isn’t it?” Qin Fu was back to normal. ”Good thing—if it had gone on for ten more seconds, I don’t think I’d have been able to control myself.”

”So why did we have to come down?” Wang Lei looked around. ”The Red Mist is thick down here too.”

”We’ve got the transparent film draped on us. When we were standing on top, the crimson crystal’s light was shining up through the gaps underneath onto our bodies,” Xu Xin explained. ”Now the crystal’s glow has intensified, and we couldn’t withstand it anymore.”

Earlier, they had almost completely wrapped their legs and feet in the transparent film, but there were still gaps.

By coming down, the crimson crystal’s light only shines on them from the sides, and with three layers of protection, it’s no longer a problem.

It was just a pity that the transparent film was breathable and couldn’t block the Red Mist.

”So we can’t go back up? Then the hole I cut up there...” Zhao Xiaochuan raised the cutter in his hand. ”Don’t tell me I cut it for nothing?”
