Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1363 - 686: Got Something Good_2

Strictly speaking, calling it a building isn’t quite accurate, because the end of this corridor is already at the edge of the World Tree.

The interior of the World Tree is roughly a hundred meters tall, and at the end of the corridor sits a structure built into the wall at the tree’s outer edge.

The whole building is embedded in the wall, like those mountain hotels from a thousand years ago, where they hollowed out part of a mountain to build a hotel inside.

More plainly put, it’s like someone carved out a few windows and doors in the wooden wall at the edge of the World Tree, making that section of wall look like a building.

”That... must be where the administrators of this World Tree are based.” Lou Fei’Er guessed. ”Are we supposed to get out through there?”

”Looks that way.” Jin Yue nodded lightly.

”Eeh...”

Keke shrank down her little head, a bit scared.

The passage was transparent, but that wall‑embedded building wasn’t, so Xu Xin and the others couldn’t see what was going on inside.

The three of them kept moving forward and soon arrived at the fully transparent corridor.

The corridor’s door was tightly closed.

”...What now? Do we open it ourselves?” Lou Fei’Er whispered. ”Feels kind of wrong... The opening and closing of this door is probably controlled. Even if we can force it open, we’ll likely get spotted.”

Xu Xin pondered.

If they opened and closed the door themselves, it really might alert the administrators here.

”Let’s wait a bit.” Xu Xin looked back at the chaotic scene behind them. ”That little jellyfish that clamped onto the scarlet crystal went in through here, right?”

”Yes.” Jin Yue nodded. ”This should be the only entrance.”

With a World Tree that people can come and go from so casually, the place where the administrators live obviously needs protection.

So having a corridor here similar to the one at the entrance makes perfect sense.

”So we wait for the next mechanical mini jellyfish to come over...? That could work.” Lou Fei’Er nodded slightly. ”But... if it’s just one jellyfish, the door will probably only stay open for a moment, right?”

That mechanical mini jellyfish earlier had a whole horde of zombie‑like alien invaders chasing after it, relentless to the end.

Xu Xin could easily picture what had happened.

The mechanical mini jellyfish flew to the corridor door, the door opened just a crack, the jellyfish slipped inside, and then the door slammed shut, shutting those alien invaders outside.

A whole crowd of alien invaders had followed it here just now, but most of them had already gone back to rejoin the fight.

There were still a few aliens nearby, lying limp on the ground, who knew what they were thinking.

They must have shaken off that previous state of mental frenzy by now.

Speaking of which, that mental state of theirs...

Was a bit like low‑level mutant creatures getting worked up into a bloody frenzy.

Back then Mimi, Silver King, and even Lou Fei’Er all went through a phase like that.

At the sight of blood, they’d get mentally hyped, unable to suppress the urge to kill.

”Hey, what are you spacing out for?” Lou Fei’Er waved her hand lightly in front of Xu Xin’s eyes.

”...Uh, when the next mechanical mini jellyfish shows up, I’ll stash you all in the wristband.” Xu Xin said. ”That way, it’ll be easier for me to slip in on my own.”

”I was thinking the same thing.” Lou Fei’Er pressed her palms together lightly. ”But let me handle the slipping‑through‑the‑door part. I’m still more nimble than you.”

Xu Xin thought for a moment, then nodded slightly.

That worked too.

Lou Fei’Er really was much more agile than he was.

She was the most suitable person for the job.

Xu Xin glanced back, then took the wristband off his wrist and handed it to Lou Fei’Er. ”I’ll leave it to you. Once you’re inside, let us out again.”

”Got it.” Lou Fei’Er took the wristband.

Next came a short wait.

It had already taken them at least ten minutes to walk over from the other side, yet the second mechanical mini jellyfish that had gotten a scarlet crystal still hadn’t appeared.

”Do you think the administrators inside this World Tree are just sitting there watching everyone in here go nuts like this?” Lou Fei’Er crossed her arms, gazing at the chaos in the distance. ”It’s been ages, and it seems like only those mechanical mini jellyfish are trying to deal with the mess.”

As she spoke, she turned to look at the building embedded in the wall behind them. ”Seriously nothing from them?”

”Maybe because right now, what they care about most is us.” Jin Yue pointed at the three of them present. ”Making sure that we, the ones who stirred up all the chaos, don’t escape from this World Tree—that’s what they want. As for those alien invaders...”

”No matter how much they cause trouble, they can’t really do any serious damage.” Xu Xin said softly, rubbing the little guy in his arms.

The little guy was being well‑behaved, curled up quietly in Xu Xin’s arms and barely making a sound.

”Eeh...”

”Come to think of it, we really haven’t seen any of those guys using weapons.” Lou Fei’Er said, a bit enlightened. ”Oh, I get it. I bet their weapons were confiscated when they entered the World Tree.”

Xu Xin nodded.

That should be the case.

Back at those stalls, with so many items laid out, he hadn’t seen a single weapon.

If those alien invaders had weapons on them, that mechanical mini jellyfish carrying the scarlet crystal would’ve been shot down ages ago.

Judging from that, weapons must be banned inside the World Tree.

And precisely because of that, the World Tree’s administrators didn’t care about the aliens’ brawl—since it really couldn’t cause much harm anyway.
