Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1342 - 679: Crimson World Tree Core (2)

It’s clear that this alien invader has no consciousness.

”Finally reached...!” Wen Guixin’s legs weakened, almost causing her to sit on the ground.

Such meticulous operations are really not suitable for her...

Exhausted, it felt like her brain cells were nearly depleted, her mind extremely fatigued.

However, her attention was soon drawn to the sight before her, and she slowly widened her eyes.

Not only her, everyone present exhibited expressions of shock.

”Is this... the core of the world tree?” Wang Lei muttered to himself.

Indeed, what appeared before everyone was an enormously large, half-buried spherical crystal.

Since only half of it was exposed, everyone could see only half of the Crystal Ball.

Despite being only half visible, the Crystal Ball’s height reached nearly twenty meters.

This was a Crystal Ball with a diameter of nearly forty meters!

Of course, the core of the world tree itself was expected to be incredibly vast, and everyone was mentally prepared for this.

But they didn’t expect that this world tree’s core wouldn’t emit a luminous white glow like the world tree they knew.

This world tree core was actually a crimson crystal!

This crimson crystal emitted a crimson glow, reflecting a blood-red hue throughout the hollow region of the world tree.

Xu Ying looked up.

This was indeed the hollow region within the trunk of the world tree.

Unlike the other world tree whose internal space expanded a hundredfold, here, looking upward, one could see the dome of this space.

This space was about a hundred meters high, exactly the height beneath the tree’s canopy.

”Ah!” Suddenly, Wen Guixin cried out anxiously, ”Don’t die!”

Everyone simultaneously shifted their focus away from the massive crimson crystal before them and turned to look at Wen Guixin, or rather, the alien invader she was controlling.

At this moment, Wen Guixin had already pressed her hand once again onto the Slime creature.

Even though now the Slime creature’s eyes were all wide open, she boldly pressed down on two of the eyes, not caring at all, her face anxious and troubled.

”What the...”

Before Wang Lei could finish his question, everyone saw the alien invader under Wen Guixin’s control start to shrivel up.

The comparatively plump Slime’s body began rapidly deflating, with a speed as unusual as a punctured balloon, turning into a layer of skin on the ground in just a few seconds.

”I...” Wen Guixin stared blankly at the layer of skin.

She tried to step on it, and like a crispy seaweed, it shattered directly.

”This...” She slowly raised her head to look at everyone, overwhelmed with tears, and somewhat helpless.

The alien invader she controlled, after repeated injections of toxins, finally couldn’t withstand it and died.

”Wow... This is way too extreme!” Zeng Tao squatted down, poking the dry fragments on the ground with her finger, ”If it had died a bit earlier, we wouldn’t even have gotten in!”

The other people exchanged glances once more.

Clearly, while waiting for it to lead them into the underground space, it just died...?

So what should they do now?

”What do we do now?” Wang Lei said, somewhat helpless.

This wasn’t even inside the world tree canopy, it was just the hollow region within the trunk!

Luckily, Qin Fu remained calm and said, ”Relax, since this Slime brought us here, it means there must be a passageway to go up or down, just look for it.”

That made sense.

Everyone looked around.

”Anyway, let’s explore the surroundings first.” Xu Ying said.

That was all they could do.

”Sorry.” Wen Guixin felt guilty, ”If only my controlling ability were a bit stronger...”

”Hey, what are you apologizing for?” Wang Lei waved his hand, ”Without you, we wouldn’t have even gotten in. Let’s just quickly check the surroundings.”

”True.”

Xu Ying’s attention was now entirely focused on the most conspicuous object in this hollow trunk region— the giant crimson crystal at the center of the entire area.

Everyone else also shifted their gaze to this massive crystal hemisphere.

”Is this the world tree core?” Zhao Xiaochuan exclaimed, somewhat excitedly, ”Why is this world tree core red? Isn’t it the ’Source of Life’ we’re looking for?”

”Can’t be.” Qin Fu examined the crimson crystal, ”We all know that the Source of Life emits a very intense red glow, so intense that even a small piece makes people uncomfortable. Didn’t we steal many of them from those factories?”

Xu Ying touched the backpack she’s been carrying throughout this journey.

She and Xu Xin each took a part, and currently, her backpack contained a dozen pieces of those small crimson crystals.

”But the light emitted by this crystal is very gentle, honestly, it’s quite comfortable on the skin.” Qin Fu shrugged, ”So, this can’t be the item we are searching for.”

Indeed.

This crystal didn’t seem like what they were targeting.

”But isn’t this the world tree core?” Zeng Tao asked in confusion, ”Isn’t the world tree an Earth creation made from luminous white crystals? Why is this world tree core crimson?”

”This is their main base.” Wang Lei found the situation easy to explain, ”It’s normal for their main base to be somewhat special, maybe the world tree’s genes mutated?”
