Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1335 - 677: A Pool of Pitch-Black Sludge

The alien invader inside is sleeping.

Xu Xin attempts to touch the slightly ajar door, without triggering any alarms.

He applies a little force, but finds the door unmoving.

He furrows his brow slightly and applies more force, only managing to move the door a bit.

Why is this door... so hard to open?

However, since it can move a little, it means it can be directly opened if the strength is sufficient.

”Let me.” Wang Lei quietly says behind Xu Xin, ”I have more strength.”

Xu Xin steps back, and Wang Lei walks to the door, glancing at the inside, a pool of pitch-black mud. His eye twitches slightly, then he grips the door frame and inserts his fingers into the gap, takes a deep breath, and starts exerting force!

Under his exertion, the door slowly opens.

”Squeak—”

Friction between the metal door and frame creates an extremely harsh and unpleasant sound!

Wang Lei is startled and quickly withdraws his hand from the door frame.

Everyone holds their breath.

But everything remains very quiet.

Xu Xin steps lightly forward, peering through the widened door gap.

The pool of mud is still lying on the ”bed”, its eyes all closed, still fast asleep.

Without any reaction at all.

Sleeping so deeply?

Though surprised, Xu Xin knows this is a good sign and gives Wang Lei a wink.

”Let me help too.” Zeng Tao approaches from behind, whispering.

Her strength is quite notable too, though not as strong as Wang Lei, it’s still greater than everyone else present.

Moreover, she can make herself super heavy, like in tug-of-war, using her weight to pull the door open.

Xu Xin nods lightly, stepping aside for her.

For some reason, he feels not quite right.

Just... a bit tired, wanting to sleep.

Shouldn’t be...?

Could there be something unusual about this room?

”Do you two feel anything unusual?” Xu Xin quietly asks the two who are ready to exert strength at the door.

”Unusual feeling? Nothing felt.” Wang Lei shakes his head.

”Ah? I don’t seem to have... either.” Zeng Tao’s face is filled with confusion.

Xu Xin signals ”OK” to them, indicating they should continue.

Wang Lei and Zeng Tao exchange a glance.

”Three, two, one...” Wang Lei softly counts down.

Then both exert their strength at the same time!

Under their combined force, the door opens slowly again.

This time much faster than before, just two seconds to create enough space for a person to sidestep through.

”Squeak—”

But at the same time, an even louder harsh friction sound is produced!

Both are startled and let go.

Luckily the door doesn’t rebound, the open space remains unchanged.

Xu Xin looks inside once more.

The recent noise, at such close distance, could really be said to be loud.

Yet despite such loud noise, the alien invader inside remains unresponsive, slumped as if dead.

Of course, it couldn’t be dead, as its muddy body is still subtly rising and falling.

Wang Lei and Zeng Tao breathe a sigh of relief.

”This is enough.” Xu Xin whispers.

The two nod and retreat.

Next is Wen Guixin’s task.

”Hold on a bit, there’s something unusual here, let me just...”

Xu Xin increasingly feels unwell, a strong desire to sleep overwhelming him.

This feeling he seemed to have experienced only...

Tsk.

He immediately looks down at Keke nestled in his cloak.

The little guy had unknowingly fallen asleep, little mouth biting the cloak, little paws grasping it.

Relying on this posture, even asleep, it remains securely nestled in Xu Xin’s arms.

”Is it this little guy...?”

This little guy has a special ability; when sleeping, it affects those around, causing them to feel deeply sleepy too.

Just like Xu Xin now.

Sleepy...

He shakes his head, trying to dispel the sleepiness in his mind, forcing himself to stay alert.

This little guy is affecting him now at such a critical moment!

He immediately reaches to flick its little head to wake it up.

But then suddenly thinks of something, his eyes flicker, and stops his action.

He looks at the room’s dead-sleeping alien invader, who didn’t wake from those loud sounds.

Why is that guy sleeping so deeply?

”Could it be... also because of Keke?”

Xu Xin looks at the curled-up little creature in his arms.

Feels... quite possible!

Otherwise, how would a ”gatekeeper” responsible for access in and out of the World Tree sleep so soundly?

”What’s wrong?” At this moment, Li Wenxi steps beside Xu Xin, quietly concerned, ”Did you find any problem?”

Xu Xin shakes his head, whispering, ”No, it’s nothing, just... are you sleepy?” Xu Xin whispers in Li Wenxi’s ear.

”Sleepy? Not sleepy at all...” Li Wenxi’s eyes show puzzled curiosity at Xu Xin: Why ask?

Xu Xin seems thoughtful.

Seems indeed to be Keke.

But Li Wenxi and others haven’t been affected...

Keke’s ability is really strong.

It was bouncing lively wanting to jump out of his arms earlier, now suddenly asleep.
