Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1304 - 666: Arrival_2

This long cave tunnel is actually a small ecosystem.

Xu Xin saw a stream of water flowing through the tunnel, forming an underground river.

Due to the sound of the wind, he hadn’t heard the sound of the water below. It was only when he shone his flashlight that he noticed the situation.

There were also various creatures along the underground river.

These creatures appeared insect-like in appearance but were as large as tigers. Seeing them in this pitch-black underground space made one feel a bit creepy.

”Seems like giant insects are still living here. But these insects...”

Huihui was fast, and almost every insect vanished in the blink of an eye, but Xu Xin still managed to capture the appearance of a few insects.

Completely different from the giant insects he encountered before.

Previously, most of those giant insects were familiar creatures that had just grown larger. But these giant insects were bizarre in shape, some even frightening.

”This should be an ecosystem now,” Xu Xin remarked, then turned to Old Yang and asked, ”When you traversed the underground world, have you ever encountered such situations? Encountered giant beasts, and your aircraft were destroyed?”

Old Yang shook his head: ”Of course, I’ve encountered giant beasts; the underground world is full of them. But around here, indeed, I’ve never encountered this.”

He looked down with surprise and said, ”I didn’t expect giant beasts to be residing here. It’s only five or six hundred kilometers from the headquarters of the alien invaders, isn’t it? This place has never allowed experiments; they are likely not artificially introduced, perhaps they migrated here themselves? It’s hard to believe that the giant beasts of the underground world have already expanded to here...”

Thinking about the recent situation, Old Yang couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious and joked, ”I haven’t experienced anything this thrilling in hundreds of years.”

”What is this,” Xu Xin turned to look at Old Yang with a smile, ”what we’re going to do next is far more exciting.”

”That’s what you all are going to do next, not me,” Old Yang put away the firearm still held in his hand and smiled bitterly, ”At my age, I can’t afford the toil; just leading you is enough to make my heart race.”

”... Over a thousand years old, but the body is still much stronger than me.” Xu Xin, upon hearing this, twitched his lips slightly.

”Stronger than you? Ha, that’s just appearances.”

Old Yang looked back once more, confirming that no more giant bats were chasing him, and finally relaxed, saying, ”I don’t have much longer to live. Do you really believe we can live forever?”

Xu Xin’s eyelid twitched: ”What do you mean?”

”The alien invaders indeed have exaggerated life-extending drugs, but... do you think they would allow us humans to use such drugs?” Old Yang glanced at Xu Xin.

Ah...

Xu Xin couldn’t help but glance at Old Yang.

True, if such drugs existed, how could they let humans use them?

Xu Xin and the others had indeed injected gene therapy that nearly allowed them to live forever, but it wasn’t given by the alien invaders; it was developed by an organization from another dimension.

Thinking back now, the foundational technology of this drug must have been given to that organization by monsters, right?

But Old Yang wasn’t so lucky; the survivors of this dimension weren’t researching immortality drugs.

”Our lifespan is longer than ordinary people’s, and we don’t show aging due to blood pattern mutations.”

Old Yang pulled down his high collar, revealing the blood patterns on his neck.

He had no blood patterns on his face, but there were some on his neck, similar to Lou Fei’Er’s condition earlier.

”Blood pattern mutations changed part of our genes, granting us an extended life, but life ultimately ends. For instance, I might soon reach my life’s limit,” Old Yang sighed, ”Blood pattern humans typically die of old age around a thousand years old.”

”You...”

Xu Xin opened his mouth slightly, didn’t expect Old Yang was about to die?

”How much longer do you have?”

Old Yang sighed again: ”Probably, there’s only less than a hundred years left.”

Xu Xin: ”? How much?”

”Less than a hundred years before I die,” Old Yang’s expression was quite wistful, ”One major reason we’re choosing to help you is that our lives are nearing their end. Since we’re almost going to die, why not try and help you?”

He then smiled: ”Honestly, if you’d come hundreds of years earlier, we probably wouldn’t be helping you.”

Xu Xin: ”I...”

He didn’t know where to start his complaints.

Having less than a hundred years left: that’s called nearing the end? Called about to die?

Goodness, if a regular human could live to a hundred years old, they’d be revered as a centenarian, able to see five generations of family together, wouldn’t they!

The tone and expression of his counterpart were so wistful that he thought Old Yang had just a few years left to live...

”... With what you said, regular humans are almost in the grave as soon as they’re born.”

Xu Xin couldn’t help but comment.

”Hm? Ah...” Old Yang was slightly stunned, then smiled awkwardly, ”Our perspective on lifespan might differ from yours. I’ve already lived for over a thousand years; to me, a hundred years doesn’t feel like much.

Let me think... it’s just like a regular human who is an eighty-year-old has about ten years left; they feel they’re at the end of their life. That’s how I feel right now.”
