Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1329 - 674: The Best Opportunity in a Thousand Years (Part 3)

After all, it took them fifty years of being played before they noticed something was wrong, and a lot of their own kind had even been used for experiments.

If this had been one of those elected leaders from certain countries a thousand years ago, with a screw-up this big, their approval ratings would have cratered and they’d have resigned in disgrace on the spot.

The leader of the alien invaders, however, chose to dispatch a great army, first shifting internal contradictions outward by suppressing humanity before anything else.

It wanted to destroy that World Tree owned by those humans who were now baring their fangs, where the monster might be hiding, and kill every human inside the World Tree.

The result, though, was that the drone corps and mutated creature corps it sent to destroy the World Tree not only failed to take it quickly, not only failed to win it any face, they even started calling back for reinforcements.

They were being beaten so hard by humans they’d always looked down on that they had to request reinforcements!

This was basically a wild flurry of slaps right across the leader’s face!

If this news got out, the leader might as well not have a face anymore; the voices opposing it would probably shoot straight through the sky.

No—more likely, the news had already gotten out.

So, in that situation, the humiliated and furious leader personally leading four giant ships to war could sort of be understood.

It didn’t just want to kill Xu Xin and the others; more likely, it wanted to claw back some face, and also...

Show off its muscles.

It was showing its weapons to those who opposed it, telling them that four giant ships were under its control, and if they wanted to rebel, they’d better think twice.

”Speaking of which, what we’ve been doing here is probably just pouring fuel on that fire.” Xu Ying pressed her lips together, as if she wanted to laugh but held it in.

”...You mean stealing the Scarlet Crystals?” Xu Xin’s eyes flickered. Then he thought of something and also felt a bit like laughing. ”Could it be we’ve been misunderstood by the other side?”

”Yes, very likely,” Xu Ying said. ”We’ve been blowing up factories over here nonstop, and even killed one of the alien invaders. There’s no way they haven’t noticed, but they still haven’t made a move... No, actually, they already have.”

”Those giant ships lifting off just now—that was their response.”

”Under normal circumstances, they should only activate the giant ships after the Transmission Array’s target is locked in, then quickly enter the Transmission Array; that’s the most energy-efficient way.”

”But you all saw what those four giant ships just did. The teleportation beams weren’t even fully linked yet, and the four ships had already taken off and were hovering in the air.”

Xu Xin laughed. ”They’ve misunderstood. They think the string of factory explosions is because alien invaders who are dissatisfied with the leader have started making repeated attempts to steal the Red Crystals, to oppose its rule. So instead of coming over to stop it, the solution they came up with was to lift the giant ships earlier, to intimidate this ’Red Crystal–stealing opposition faction’ with sheer force.”

Too bad the ones stealing the Red Crystals weren’t any sort of ”opposition faction” at all, but Xu Xin and his people.

Of course, it had also scared Xu Xin and the others half to death.

”Yes. That’s what the monster figured.” Wen Guixin nodded. ”I think it makes a certain amount of sense too.”

”So, if we follow this line of reasoning...”

Xu Xin came to a halt.

The others all stopped as well.

A few more steps and they would be under the canopy of the alien invaders’ World Tree.

”Right now, the alien invaders’ base is emptier than it has ever been. That much... we can confirm, can’t we?” Xu Xin narrowed his eyes.

”I think we can.” Xu Ying nodded. ”This is the best opportunity in a thousand years!”

Everyone’s spirits lifted.

”This best opportunity lasts only until... Brother Chaoyang and the others can’t hold on anymore,” Wang Lei said.

”Then let’s not waste any more time,” Xu Xin said immediately. ”The monster already told us where the Red Crystals are—inside the underground space of one of the World Trees!”

Xu Xin looked up at this World Tree.

The underground space wasn’t an underground world, but rather the area directly beneath the World Tree—where the World Tree’s control console was located.

The place where Ji Chaoyang and the others were now fighting for their lives was the underground space of their World Tree.

The monster had already told them which World Tree the Scarlet Crystals were in.

It was this one right in front of them.

And the monster had also given them a method to enter this World Tree.

”Move out, right now.” Xu Xin looked around at the others. ”Don’t mess up the tasks you’re responsible for.”

”Don’t worry, Brother Xin!”

”Let’s go!”
