Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 946: Chapter 543: Humans Are Like Cockroaches

”This...”

Xu Ying hesitated a little.

”Is there some difficulty?”

”Well... Originally no, but now there is...” Xu Ying rubbed her temples with a bit of a headache, looking at the not-so-distant statue outside the window.

She brought Li Wenxi to the human stronghold in the underground world, initially intending to show Li Wenxi around and have her investigate whether there were any mineral resources nearby, then inform the rulers of this human stronghold about the location of these resources, alleviating their panic.

For she had some suspicion whether the rulers of this underground human world might have other plans.

It’s worth knowing that the area humans reside in now is significantly wider compared to the initial territory.

Although Earth’s overall expansion increased its surface area a hundredfold, by today’s standards, this activity range looks pitifully small considering Earth’s entirety, but...

Have those alien invaders really always failed to discover this place?

A thousand years ago on Earth, even the smallest uninhabited island would be under satellite surveillance, nothing escaping its watch.

And the alien invaders’ technology is much more advanced than that of humans a thousand years ago.

Of course, regarding whether this human stronghold has been discovered, she still tends to believe it hasn’t, for the time being.

Firstly, the humans living here haven’t been affected at all; if they were discovered by the alien invaders, would those bastards allow so many humans to continue multiplying?

Moreover, a more crucial reason is that this place is the underground world.

The overall height here is at most two or three thousand meters, with some areas having a height of just tens of meters, sometimes several meters, and in certain places entirely isolated by stone walls.

Exploring this underground world cannot adopt the convenient method of observation using satellite-like aerial devices.

The current underground world is somewhat akin to the deep sea floor from a thousand years ago, making exploration extremely difficult and the scope exponentially larger. No matter how developed Earth’s satellite technology was a thousand years ago, the deep sea remained a very mysterious realm for them.

So, the chance of this human stronghold being exposed remains quite slim.

After all, the alien invaders don’t excessively delve into the underground world. Most regions of the underground world are dark and almost lifeless, who would waste effort to explore such a vast underground world.

As long as the mined resources are sufficient for them, there’s no need to waste too much effort in the underground world.

Therefore, in her view, those alien invaders should just treat the underground world as a convenient testing ground for experimenting and controlling giant beast bloodlines.

Meanwhile, their human stronghold is located remotely and is generally undiscoverable.

”But...” Li Wenxi listened to Xu Ying’s words and furrowed her brows, deducing, ”Indeed, it’s very difficult for the alien invaders to find this place, but that doesn’t mean that humans living in the underground world don’t want to go out, right? Among a hundred million people, there must be some who yearn for the surface and the blue sky?”

Xu Ying bit her lip.

”... They’ve been propagating in the underground world for over a thousand years, also we initially omitted any documentation related to the surface and blue sky when bringing them underground to avoid such collective suicidal behavior. Now, blue sky should be a foreign concept to them, even saying...”

Xu Ying spoke with some uncertainty, raising her head to look at the thriving scene outside the window.

This is the most prosperous city of humans currently, most people leading carefree lives.

People’s living conditions are generally abundant, and there’s no clamor for leaving the underground.

To most, the blue sky and white clouds are merely a myth, just as modern people aren’t clamoring to see dinosaurs or saber-toothed tigers.

There’s no such need.

I’m living well now, why would I go to the surface?

Could living on the surface be this comfortable?

Moreover, thousands of years worth of writings essentially propagated the dangers of the surface, causing most people a profound fear of it.

Not only do they not want to return to the surface, but they regard Earth’s surface as extremely unsuitable for survival.

Diurnal temperature differences can be as much as ten degrees, sunlight causes severe harm to the human body, extreme weather can kill thousands at a time, and there are various invincible beasts and flying monsters, as well as...

The insane alien invaders who would slaughter them completely.

Under the influence of these notions, people living underground even believe that the decision to relocate humans underground to a highly suitable living place a thousand years ago was the best decision in human history.

And Xu Xin and Xu Ying, who somehow moved them underground, became the saviors of humanity.

”But... Isn’t this just the thought of ordinary people?” Li Wenxi countered, ”Indeed, ordinary people live abundantly with no reason to return to the surface, but haven’t the upper echelons controlling this underground world realized that underground resources are exhausted? At least, the resources they’ve identified are depleted.”

Xu Ying remained silent.

This was her deepest concern.
