Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 945: Chapter 542: Don’t Get Burned Stupid..._2

This is the best outcome.

”...When are we setting off?” Shi Wanyun, who was sitting to the side, asked impatiently.

Zeng Tao was not paying attention to Xu Xin’s recent conversation with the other explorers; her focus was entirely on Shi Wanyun, ready to prevent her from making any sudden escape.

”Right now.”

Xu Xin glanced out the window in the direction where Lou Fei’Er and Keke had left, but there was no sign of them.

On the map, the green dot representing Lou Fei’Er had already moved beyond Crystal City and was relatively stationary in an area.

It seemed it would be some time before she returned, so Xu Xin decided not to wait any longer and prepared to take Shi Wanyun to the crystal house located just ten buildings away from the Crystal Palace to administer the injection.

Of course, accompanying him would be Zeng Tao, Mimi, and the Silver King.

Zeng Tao was extremely cautious. The moment Shi Wanyun got out of bed, she immediately grabbed her wrist tightly to prevent her from attempting to flee.

”...You don’t have to be so cautious. I’m not going to run,” Shi Wanyun frowned slightly, ”Go easy...”

”Hmph, that’s what you said just now too! I won’t be fooled again!”

”That was a special situation just now...”

After leaving the treehouse and taking only a few steps, they reached the crystal building.

Upon seeing the crystal building, Zeng Tao remarked with some envy, ”Hmph, I haven’t even had the injection yet, and now you get to benefit from it.”

She then looked eagerly at Xu Xin and said, ”There should be enough for me, right?”

”Of course, there is,” Xu Xin replied with a helpless smile, ”Once this crisis is over, I’ll immediately give you the injection.”

”You promised!”

Xu Xin extended his hand towards the crystal door. Just like before, this door, which others couldn’t open no matter what, responded to his touch, as if it recognized his genes, emitting a faint glow before opening by itself.

Xu Xin immediately went inside, and Zeng Tao tugged Shi Wanyun in with her, while Mimi lay down at the entrance to stand guard.

There were four ordinary survivors around the crystal building who looked over curiously at Xu Xin and the others’ movements.

”Did you see that?”

”I think I saw Brother Xin take two girls into that room?”

”Whoa, Brother Xin really knows how to enjoy life, doing that kind of thing in the crystal house...”

”Wow, I can’t believe Brother Xin is like that... does that mean I have a chance too?”

The curious onlookers got closer, wanting to investigate further and satisfy their curiosity.

Suddenly, Mimi, stationed at the doorway, stood up and let out a growl at them!

”Wow, it’s Mimi, Brother Xin’s pet cheetah!”

”Such a big size, but it sounds so cute!”

”Don’t be fooled by the cute sound; one swipe and it’ll take your head off!”

”It doesn’t seem to want us to get close...”

”Isn’t that obvious? Would you let people come close when you’re doing that kind of thing?”

”We’d better leave quickly, but does this count as exclusive news for us?”

”Let’s go, let’s go! I’m going to anonymously inform everyone about this!”

Inside the room, Xu Xin heard the commotion outside but didn’t clearly understand without enhanced hearing.

He was now standing next to the injection device with a small vial, while Zeng Tao was holding Shi Wanyun’s arm, thrust into the device.

Shi Wanyun did not resist at all; in fact, her eyes were shimmering with hope.

”I wonder if this injection will work...” she worried internally.

From her perspective, this serum had clearly been effective for Lou Fei’Er, but...

If it didn’t work and her identity was exposed, she’d be finished.

If it failed, she still couldn’t fight against those monsters, and Xu Xin would not tolerate her.

If it really came to that...

Shi Wanyun bit her lip.

If it came to that, she decided to reveal the truth to Xu Xin before she died; she was human after all. Even though this might lead to the monsters killing many survivors...

Thinking of Crystal City and the World Tree...

At least Xu Xin would likely be safe.

Other survivors were a disorganized crowd; even if they survived temporarily, it was meaningless. It would be better to use their lives to assist Xu Xin and his group.

Xu Xin and his cohort were humanity’s hope!

With such a resolute mindset, she felt a sudden sharp pain in her arm as if it had been pierced.

”Mm...” She groaned at the unexpected pain.

Then she felt a wave of heat move through her arm, spreading to every part of her body.

The heat was so intense that her skin flushed a rosy shade.

Seeing her reaction, Xu Xin nodded.

Her response was almost identical to what Lou Fei’Er had exhibited back then.

This seemed to suggest a high likelihood of success.

”Wow... Her wrist is so hot!” Zeng Tao exclaimed in surprise, ”It feels like it’s definitely over forty degrees! An extreme fever!”

Shi Wanyun was very uncomfortable.

But she forced herself to stay alert, sensing the changes in her body.

Then her eyes slowly widened.

”Haha...”

A slight smile appeared on her face. Though still panting from the intense heat, it was clear she was very pleasantly surprised and in a good mood!

She lifted her free hand and grabbed Xu Xin’s arm, stumbling forward and almost falling into his embrace.

Xu Xin, still wary, caught her immediately to prevent her from getting too close, while Zeng Tao pulled her aside with vigilance, saying, ”What do you intend to do?!”

”I...” Shi Wanyun almost toppled over when Zeng Tao pulled her. Fortunately, Zeng Tao quickly steadied her.

”I am now... yours...” The gratitude in Shi Wanyun’s eyes as she looked at Xu Xin was evident, ”I’ll tell you everything I know... all...”

Before she could finish her sentence, her body went limp, and if not for Zeng Tao catching her, she would have collapsed to the ground.

”This... is just like Lou Fei’Er before,” Zeng Tao remarked with some frustration, seating her gently on the floor, ”I thought she could tell us the situation directly...”

Shi Wanyun now wore a slightly pained expression. Inside her, two mutant genes were battling, causing her body temperature to spike drastically—a severe fever in layman’s terms.

Xu Xin touched her forehead.

This temperature was far higher than Lou Fei’Er’s had been.

It must be forty-two or forty-three degrees?

So severe, hope it doesn’t leave her brain-damaged...

In such a case, taking pills wasn’t beneficial; they might interfere with the freshly injected gene serum suppressing the mutant blood genes. There was nothing to do but let her ride it out.

”It’s not a big problem,” Xu Xin said as he stood up, ”Lou Fei’Er was only weak for an hour or two and then recovered. Her recovery time might be longer, but...”

He glanced out at the sky.

It was already nine o’clock in the evening, and the sky was completely dark.

He looked again at Shi Wanyun, who was in slight pain but also showed subtle relief and ease in her expression.

Her earlier words could be trusted, but caution was still needed.

”If all goes well, she might wake up by tonight. Take her back to the treehouse, care for her, and keep an eye on her. Notify me immediately when she wakes up.”

”All right!”

Now all they could do was wait for her to regain consciousness.

...

Li Wenxi sat on the sofa, staring blankly at the floor.

”That’s all I know; this is the truth of this world,” Xu Ying concluded, then took a sip of water from the cup, ”Phew... finally finished talking, I’m exhausted.”

”This...” Li Wenxi looked up, her gaze still vacant, ”What you said is just too... incredible?”

”I knew you wouldn’t believe it,” Xu Ying said, pouting, ”That’s why I brought you here, so you could see everything before I told you the truth, saving me from having to argue too much.”

Indeed...

If she hadn’t witnessed everything outside, she probably would never have believed such an absurd tale.

But now, she had no choice but to believe.

She sighed, accepting the explanation, and looked into Xu Ying’s eyes.

”...Now that you’ve told me everything, what am I supposed to do?”
