Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 920: Chapter 534: Crystal City’s Formidable Defense!

”The effect is so obvious!” Lou Fei’Er immediately leaned over the edge of the crystal building to look down.

The mutant creatures who originally wanted to climb up and attack them all stopped and stood motionless where they were.

The group of mutant creatures that had not yet entered the range of Crystal City were agitated and roaring, but those that had entered and were affected by Crystal City were oblivious, standing still and not moving at all.

The scene was quite eerie for a moment.

”Should we take action?” Lou Fei’Er, lying on the rooftop, pointed at the mutant creature group below like sitting ducks, asking Xu Xin in a low voice, ”Are they being controlled by Crystal City? Now should be a good time to act, right?”

Jin Yue stood at the edge of the rooftop, looking down expressionlessly, ready to jump in and start attacking once Xu Xin gave the word.

”No.” Xu Xin shook his head, ”I said, we shouldn’t attack here, it’s meaningless.”

”Then we...”

Xu Xin looked at Lou Fei’Er and Jin Yue and asked, ”Do either of you feel any abnormalities physically?”

”Us two?”

Lou Fei’Er and Jin Yue exchanged a glance and then both shook their heads.

”No abnormalities.”

”Nothing feels different, just like usual.” As she spoke, Lou Fei’Er rubbed her eyes, ”It’s just that this crystal is so bright that it’s a bit hard on my eyes.”

...So it’s basically the same as him.

Lou Fei’Er’s blood pattern mutation had been suppressed by the genetic serum, but Jin Yue’s had not, which meant that Jin Yue was still just an ordinary person with a mutant bloodline.

Yet she didn’t feel the suppressive force on her bloodline like those mutant creatures below.

So, the situation was basically what Yingying had told him in the video and what he had theorized.

This Crystal City can affect mutant creatures with beast bloodlines, awakening their beast blood which suppresses the others’ feral nature and frees them from their original mental control.

But creatures without beast bloodlines, like Jin Yue now, wouldn’t be affected at all.

Suddenly, a mutant creature affected by the surrounding Crystal City slowly sat down.

Its action was like a fuse, instantly triggering a widespread reaction.

All the mutant creatures that entered the range of Crystal City collapsed to the ground.

In an instant, a somewhat painful wailing sound arose, but the wailing did not last long, only a few seconds. While Xu Xin and the others were still stunned and hadn’t reacted, the wailing sound quickly diminished.

Then, almost all the affected mutant creatures lay on the ground, closed their eyes, and remained motionless.

Only occasional howls and the roars of mutant creatures far off, still outside the Crystal City area, echoed around the trio.

”Wha... what’s happening?” Lou Fei’Er exclaimed, ”Are they... dead?”

Xu Xin glanced outside the Crystal City.

Although the mutant creatures outside looked extremely agitated, none of them attempted to enter the Crystal City again. The encirclement even retreated a few meters, leaving a gap around the outside of Crystal City.

It seems that the entity controlling them from behind is also very wary at this moment, considering what is happening with Crystal City, and dares not rashly let the beast packs enter again, preferring to wait and see.

”Whee...” Keke also looked at the beast packs outside the Crystal City, seemingly puzzled why they didn’t come in, ”Whee?”

Xu Xin immediately jumped down from the crystal building, landing lightly with a ”snap.”

The two women quickly followed him down.

He walked up to a leopard about the size of the Silver King.

”This one is an intermediate mutant creature,” Lou Fei’Er explained behind Xu Xin.

Just like the Silver King.

He started examining the leopard.

The blood patterns on the leopard’s body had faded significantly, a dark red bordering on black, merging with its original spots. From a distance, they were nearly indiscernible.

Getting closer, one could hear its slightly heavy breathing, and its chest was gently rising and falling, clearly still alive.

A regular leopard weighs about 50 to 100 kilograms, roughly the same as the average human body weight. This size places it among the smallest of the big cats, but it’s comparable to Earth’s largest canid, the North American gray wolf, though the leopard is slightly larger but within limits.

Since it’s about the same size as the Silver King, that suggests its concentration of beast blood is also similar to the Silver King’s.

This leopard is likely one of the stronger ones among this group of mutant creatures.

Xu Xin crouched down and reached out to touch the large creature’s head.

”Hey, you...”

Behind him, Lou Fei’Er and Jin Yue immediately tensed up, ready to strike if the leopard awakened to attack.

However, what they anticipated didn’t happen.

Xu Xin easily touched the leopard’s head, even smoothing its fur.

”Whee!”

Even Keke jumped off Xu Xin’s shoulder onto the leopard’s body, scratching its fur with its tiny claws.

And yet, this leopard made no movement, lying on the ground as if asleep.

”You really haven’t felt anything unusual, right?” Xu Xin turned to look at Jin Yue standing behind him, confirming again, ”Can you still use your powers now?”
