Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 934: Chapter 538: Li Wenxi’s Ordeal (Part 3)

This... is the underground world.

And the city where Li Wenxi is now, is a supercity located underground, which is even as large as a small country on Earth back in the day.

Of course, when faced with Earth whose surface area has multiplied a hundred times, the area this city occupies is really negligible.

Otherwise, it wouldn’t have taken a thousand years to nurture the last branch of humanity without being discovered until now.

Xu Xin guessed correctly, the location where Li Wenxi is now, is exactly where that surviving branch of humanity resides.

When discussing in the treehouse, Xu Ying had already revealed the truth of this world to Li Wenxi, and now Li Wenxi knows that this is Earth a thousand years later and understands their current situation.

The development of this city has always gone very smoothly.

When the location was chosen, the city was selected for its very rich resources.

Abundant mineral and petroleum resources led to the introduction of many different kinds of cultivable animals and plantable grain and oil crops, which quickly grew under the illumination of the Crystal Stone ceiling, bringing vigorous vitality to this underground city at that time.

With the rich resources, in a thousand years, the population of the underground city grew from the initial ten thousand or so, doubling every hundred years.

Today, it is over a hundred million people.

Li Wenxi was stunned when she heard this number.

While she was still shocked by the news that this is a world where humans have become extinct a thousand years later, Xu Ying told her that there is still a branch of over a hundred million humans underground!

This can no longer be called a branch, considering that Huaxia didn’t even have a population over a hundred million until the Song Dynasty! This can already be considered a very prosperous civilization!

She really didn’t expect that a branch of humanity struggling to survive underground could develop to such an extent!

But on second thought, with a thousand years and rich resources, and without being discovered or invaded, not developing would be abnormal.

Of course, the stagnation of technology is a significant limitation to development; at least a thousand years have passed, and she doesn’t feel that this underground world’s technology is much more advanced than in her time.

It’s basically exactly the same as a thousand years ago.

However, a large population is a huge burden.

Xu Ying told her that the resources of this underground human world are nearly depleted, and the consumption rate by a population of over a hundred million is incredibly fast.

Moreover, the Crystal Stones on the dome, emitting a pale white light, have also nearly exhausted their energy, dimming significantly compared to the past.

The consequence is, not only has the growth speed of crops greatly slowed, but the Crystal Stones themselves probably won’t last much longer; they will definitely go completely dark within a century.

In other words, if this humanity doesn’t return to the surface, they will go extinct within a century!

The few upper-class humans who know the secret of this world have begun racking their brains to consider ways to return to the surface.

But with resources already exhausted, even returning to the surface is nearly impossible, let alone facing almost insurmountable dangers above.

Of course, bringing Li Wenxi here was only Xu Ying’s own idea.

Li Wenxi’s ability to discover metal resource deposits can alleviate the current pressure.

”Because of my special status! Actually, I’m not familiar with the people here either, but they should listen to what I say.” Xu Ying smirked smugly, ”Sis-in-law, you definitely don’t know what I represent here!”

”Your status is indeed different...” At this moment, Li Wenxi had her gaze fixed on the most conspicuous landmark in the entire city.

The strangest thing in the entire city is not the Crystal Stone ceiling overhead that can illuminate this large area like daylight, but...

The two giant statues at the city’s center that rival the height of the surrounding skyscrapers!

”Why are those statues outside, you and Xu Xin’s statues?” Li Wenxi pointed at the statues outside, turning around in shock, ”I only saw them after you left, what on earth is going on, why did this city erect statues of you and Xu Xin?”

”Ah, that...” Xu Ying looked at the statue, her expression softened a bit, then her eyes dimmed slightly, and she shook her head, ”That’s a long story.”
