Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 944: Chapter 542: Don’t Burn Yourself Stupid...

”So what should we do now?” Li Wenxi looked around; it was just a completely dark empty room. ”Are we stuck here for now?”

”No way, follow me.”

Xu Ying grabbed Li Wenxi’s wrist and ran forward a few steps, then...

Before Li Wenxi could react, she felt the scene before her suddenly become distorted, followed by a familiar feeling of the world turning upside down and a rapid plunge.

And then, a familiar scene appeared in front of her.

She returned to the villa she had been in before.

”Is this... teleportation?” Li Wenxi was a bit surprised, but not too surprised. ”Was there a teleportation point under that statue?”

To her, Xu Xin could teleport, and Xu Ying, the sister of the previous survivor Xu Xin, could also teleport; this seemed quite normal.

”Teleportation point? Hmm... you could understand it that way.” Xu Ying plopped onto the sofa in the downstairs living room, sprawled out over it. ”Ah, this time out, although somewhat dangerous, confirmed some things for me.”

”So what now?” Li Wenxi sat next to her, looking at her somewhat displeased. ”You understand, but I’m even more confused! Explain it to me quickly, what’s going on here?”

”Uh... it all starts from a thousand years ago, no, wait, about seven hundred years ago...”

...

Having decided to let Shi Wanyun inject the serum, it’s best to move quickly.

But before that, he needed to confirm one thing.

He had Afu fly a distance into the air to verify how high Crystal City could affect the abilities of mutant creatures.

Soon, Afu flew a round trip, and its report was: flying to about fifty meters in altitude, it basically couldn’t feel Crystal City’s influence.

Fifty meters, huh...

This height truly made Xu Xin a bit worried.

If flying mutant creatures were like this, they would be in trouble.

However, in Afu’s naive mind, a piece of information gave him some thoughts.

As everyone knows, bats have very poor eyesight. They rarely use their eyes to determine their surroundings, practically equivalent to being blind. They mostly rely on echolocation to determine the distance of obstacles or prey.

And as a mutant creature, Afu’s eyesight has improved astonishingly compared to ordinary bats, but even so, beyond ten meters it can’t distinguish between humans and animals, and beyond twenty meters it’s completely unable to perceive.

Afu essentially said that when it could no longer observe the glowing white light emitted by Crystal City with its eyes, Crystal City’s influence on it would drop drastically; this distance was about twenty meters. As it continued to ascend to about fifty meters, the influence would completely disappear.

In this regard, Crystal City’s influence could presumably be significantly enhanced.

Most airborne creatures in the world are birds.

Compared to Afu, a mammal living in darkness, birds’ eyesight isn’t just a little better, to say the least. Even against humans, most birds’ visual range could completely dominate them.

Ultimately, raptors in the air wouldn’t be able to hunt without excellent eyesight.

That’s the outcome of natural selection.

Thus, if the indicator for mutant creatures above Crystal City is whether they can see the glowing white light, then they basically wouldn’t need to worry about flying mutant creatures.

They simply couldn’t escape.

Xu Xin directly posted this news in the explorers’ group.

Wang Lei: ”If this is true, that’d be awesome!”

Zhao Xiaochuan: ”Can we stand in Crystal City and just wait to catch birds falling down?”

Qi Xuefei: ”We can’t be sure yet, right?”

Ji Chaoyang: ”Hmm, we still need to consider the worst-case scenario.”

Qin Yunlong: ”The worst case is a swarm of flying mutant creatures that won’t be influenced by Crystal City and won’t land, attacking the World Tree in groups? In that case... we probably couldn’t do much, right?”

Xu Xin was also slightly concerned.

The sheer number of terrestrial mutant creatures in the first wave was incalculable; if flying mutant creatures were similar and not affected, they’d be at a great disadvantage.

Flying mutant creatures have much higher mobility than ordinary mutant creatures, and even using crossbow bolts for long-range attacks wouldn’t clear all flying mutant creatures.

Moreover, with Li Wenxi not around, their resources were greatly depleted, making it unaffordable to use large-scale weaponry.

At that time, the method they could use might only be...

Wen Guixin: ”Did you guys forget about me again? If that really happens, you need to figure out how to get a flying creature, let me infect it, and then have it fly up to infect those mutant creatures.”

This was indeed the only method Xu Xin could think of.

Zhao Xiaochuan: ”Right, I’ll go out now to see if there are any ordinary flying creatures nearby that can be captured.”

The worst-case response method was decided. Xu Xin looked again at the regional and alliance channels.

So far, aside from them being hit by a beast tide, the other survivors in these two zones hadn’t encountered any crises.
