Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Russell looked at Josh seriously: ”How about waiting another day?

Shouldn’t we give them some time to organize themselves?”

”No need.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ cheerfully picked up the conversation, ”Little Mr. Russell need not worry about Hill’s reaction over there; he always strikes just once.”

Russell smiled at him: ”But, didn’t you say that when you take tasks, it’s very fair?

Doing this... isn’t someone losing their chance?”

”But, luck is also a kind of fairness~” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ replied without blinking, ”Those who survive this storm naturally should receive their rewards.

And those who are smart enough to emerge from the maze at the fastest speed.

Fairness doesn’t mean everyone gets the same.

Rather, it means you get what you deserve based on what you put in.

They lost the bet, so naturally, they can’t ask the winners to give up their opportunity to wait for them, right?

If you do something yourself, you must bear the consequences.”

”This is Hill’s student; don’t talk nonsense with him.” ’Old Age Striking King’ suddenly chimed in, ”This kid probably just can’t figure out what the relationship between us and Hill is, so he’s being a bit too cautious.

Don’t get too smug; Hill isn’t easy to deal with. Aren’t you afraid of a bear paw flying at your head!”

”I think your words might be more likely to earn a slap.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ said wistfully.

”Not at all.” ’Old Age Striking King’ replied very frankly, ”Hill wouldn’t bother with such trivial matters.

The reaction today is quite strong; it’s obviously because of the huge contrast... just moved him and then came the performance, anyone would be angry.

Honestly, I didn’t expect Hill would first clear buffs and then limit spellcasting with a heavy rain.”

”Hmm... I told them to perform the quirky ones first, then the emotional ones, to save a lot of trouble!” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ helplessly spoke up, ”But...”

”You, who have no sense of fun, and don’t understand art, are talking nonsense.” ’Old Age Striking King’s mouth cornered disdainfully, ”Lyrics and tunes so carefully thought out, how can they not be performed in the most memorable way?”

”Hmm... indeed, memorable.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ turned elegantly, raising one hand in the air, ”Look, tens of millions of people at the big scene, now scattered, uh-huh, does it matter? Are there ten thousand left?

What are those guys doing sitting around?”

”Health potions have a cooldown!” ’Old Age Striking King’ rolled his eyes, ”With the leftover sliver of health they have, if caught in the storm, they’d be done for.

They definitely need to drink a couple more bottles before getting up.

Your health bar is still full, of course, you’re not afraid!

Haven’t you noticed, it’s still raining sun showers above!”

”Hmm... indeed, reversals are always the most memorable.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ pondered for a few seconds before speaking, ”Even someone as broad-minded as Hill acts so tough.”

”So, can I publish the task tomorrow morning?” Ignoring the conversation between the two undead, Josh said what he had been wanting to ask amidst Russell and Carpenter’s shocked expressions.

”Of course, Dawn Solitary Walker, this is your freedom, you don’t need to mind who is good or bad on our side, just arrange the task.

We, the Undead Tribe, will stand outside the Magic Tower awaiting your arrival at dawn.”

Russell blinked, finally realizing... Lester had given them some information about the Undead Tribe, so they knew the undead use elemental bodies, and wouldn’t truly die.

It’s just that the elemental body reappears next to some strange energy object that records the most recent information about their body.

So, although Teacher Hill defeated many undead, they just have to run again.

However, Russell did indeed sense that the undead were not less powerful than him... so he completely didn’t expect that the undead would travel through the night after resurrection.

Even if Lester told him many things, Russell still couldn’t comprehend the undead’s lack of pride.

Thus, when judging the time, he didn’t even account for the night... Why would an archmage travel through the night just to build houses for others?

Even if it’s for deities, raised in a world where mages have an extremely high status, Russell couldn’t accept it.

However, Russell has always been a smart and perceptive child, so once he confirmed the relationship between the undead and their teacher was unexpectedly ’friendly’, Russell promptly shut his mouth, no longer interfering with Josh’s decision.

Anyway, this guy is in quite a hurry.

”Alright, shall we meet at dawn then?” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ reconfirmed... then nodded in satisfaction:

The children who caught Hill’s eye are indeed different.

In Toril, they actually saw many mid-lower rank mages with formal lineage from the Magic Tower coming from different places... drawn by Agleya’s territory for Edna’s special regard, the influx of young mages was so much that Lynn had to shove Leonard into the Great Library as a librarian.

After all, only there would those mages stop the idle chatter... exchanging pleasantries to the extent that even the elves devoted to singer worship found the salutations excruciating, thus one can imagine how many mages wanted to catch a glimpse of Leonard.

But from here, it’s also evident how little these young people understand the ways of the world, or rather, how they fail to sense others’ emotions.

Maybe it’s because their talents are too great, and their backgrounds too prominent, so even when they think they’re being humble, they’re still too arrogant and reckless.

People who always act from ’I’, even when bowing their heads, wear ’crowns’, and don’t blend with commoners.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ understood at that time why Hill, who obviously had a great pursuit of the mage profession, had made almost no mage friends here in Toril.

Moreover, he truly believed that Hill would find it very difficult to find suitable students outside of Teraxil... Teraxil’s apprentice mages rarely show such self-inflated phenomena.

Their perception is completely different from mages of other worlds... If you haven’t reached Legendary, you’re just a P in Teraxil Mage’s daily life.

But in Toril, an Level 8 Mage is practically a P.

However, the two children appearing before him today were clearly not that arrogant... ’Snow Cloud Peak’ could sense Russell and Carpenter were genuinely proud of being mages.

Moreover, Hill also gave them enough confidence, allowing these two children who hadn’t reached Legendary to stand beside the Dawn Elect without feeling intimidated, and even attempting to take control of the situation proactively.

But they were just more confident, proud of their profession, but without arrogance.

They wouldn’t start every sentence with ’I’, nor speak in a commanding tone... wouldn’t always go home and ask the teacher what to do.

This is obviously a mage’s world after all... even though it’s a mage world tormented by the devils, the mage’s status is still present.

No wonder Hill chose the two of them as students.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ understands Hill quite well; although his character is gentle and his actions mild, he... actually has little patience.

To make him teach from one plus one, even to correct the nature of the students, Hill simply couldn’t do it.

This common flaw in brilliant people, ’Snow Cloud Peak’ of course also had it before, and it still remains now.

So, certainly, it’s because these two children’s talents and personalities are both good, that Little Bear took notice.

Regardless of other things, judging by their current performance of handing the control back to Josh without saying a word, at the very least, they know what they need to know.

Pretty good.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ placed his hand on his forehead and looked up: ”Elder... you say... huh?

Elder? Where are you!”

”Are you looking for that Lady Sanda King?” Carpenter leaned over gently, ”She already went up the mountain!”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ looked around in surprise before seeing the short legs stepping slowly uphill through moss.

Even holding one hand on the vine-like grass, ’Old Age Striking King’ still slid step by step.

She held a Magic Wand as tall as her in the other hand, probing the way forward little by little.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ blinked suddenly: ”Hill... so angry?

What am I going to do?”

Snow Old Dog, quite aware of his own capabilities, finally became worried... he didn’t have the advantage of short legs; did he really need to crawl up the mountain?

”In the bustling streets with lights like daylight, travelers stop at the street corners.” Lansendel gently chewed over these words, shook his head and smiled, ”Very nice, but a bit too sentimental.

I still prefer our dawn to be more enthusiastic than daytime, waiting for the arrival of the dawn.

Still, hope is prettier.”

Then he looked at Hill’s indifferent face and couldn’t help but flap his wings: ”But isn’t the most fun the last part where the Mighty Little Bear charges forward, right Hill.”

”Now, shouldn’t you be discussing with William how to set up tasks, and teach Josh how to arrange tasks too?” Hill, unwilling to pay him any attention, just asked incredulously, ”I thought you already told Josh how to assign tasks to the Undead Tribe!

You’re just letting him stand in front of the Undead Tribe without knowing anything?

At least he’s your loyal follower, don’t mess with him like that.”

”Josh needs a bit of a shock to work honestly.” Lansendel responded with a grin, ”Anyway, today, it’s definitely impossible to start working.

I’ll go talk to him later about how to avoid direct dealings with the Undead Tribe and how to hand things over to that task crystal, then he’ll obediently follow instructions.

Otherwise, he’d definitely try to see if he can do something else.”

Hill glanced at him: ”Josh indeed is a loyal follower of yours.”

”This time, it’s certainly very interesting.” Shaer, hiding among the vines, suddenly spoke softly, ”Although, it wasn’t exactly what I imagined.”
