Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Then Shaer turned to look at the golden Great Peacock, and smiled at Russell: ”There’s no need to worry that Lansendel’s foolish behavior means he can’t help you.

For the wise ones, not seeking Lansendel’s help is the safest option.

He doesn’t need to want to destroy the world; just a little more care from him, and the world will explode on its own.”

Russell gently took a breath and looked at his silent teacher... How should he respond to such words?

Is it okay not to speak?

”Hmm...” Hill suddenly realized that accepting students isn’t always a good thing... He’s no longer someone who can lean small and sell small.

Luckily, Shaer and Lansendel are the ones staying here.

As long as Celene isn’t here, dealing with these two won’t be too difficult.

After all, in the eyes of Shaer and Lansendel, Hill’s feelings are respected; if there are things he doesn’t want to participate in, he doesn’t have to.

But Celene respects no one, and doesn’t consider whether Hill can handle her troublesome words. She not only speaks freely but also directly asks Hill’s opinion... Who wants to advise her?

So now Hill’s quite calm: ”Russell, take Carpenter to greet Lansendel.

Then come back.

No need to worry, Lansendel won’t come to this world anymore.”

Teacher... Russell felt his smile carry a hint of bitterness... You know, your words agree with the words of the Goddess of the Night, right?

Isn’t this saying that if the Lord of Dawn cares too much about their world, then... that result is destruction?

Russell quickly recalled the stories List once taught him about the past, suddenly gaining a deeper understanding of some disasters he hadn’t understood.

Deities, their destructive power doesn’t really depend on faction.

Even devils have wreaked havoc for so many years here, leaving them to barely survive, yet when faced with two powerful divine beings, their first reaction was who would bring destruction.

He held Carpenter again, performed the Mage Ceremony with utmost respect, then turned to walk toward the gods and Chosen in friendly conversation... Truly, Russell swallowed his curse back down; their teacher had earnestly instructed him and Carpenter to never have excessive thoughts in front of deities.

Especially disrespectful thoughts, don’t even think them.

Of course, if he has walked up to Level 20 on the pure mage path, he might hide his feelings a bit.

But better, consider how to deal with all gods after reaching Level 25 or higher.

Otherwise, just be yourself honestly.

Therefore, Russell definitely won’t feel discontent for their teacher not telling him and Carpenter some things... He knows he and his sister are transparent in front of deities.

And as the Chosen of the deities, Josh naturally doesn’t need to weigh Russell and Carpenter’s feelings and endurance when speaking.

He’s not their guardian, why should he care so much?

Russell quietly reminded himself: The respect the teacher receives is solely the teacher’s.

If the two of them want to hold their ground, they must fight for themselves.

Don’t let minor emotions affect the opportunities the teacher creates for them... position themselves lower!

Though Josh might act very casual with his own deity, when the neighbor’s child comes to greet the adults, he hurriedly stood up.

Thus, Lansendel’s followers don’t ignore everything; they just choose not to act.

With just a glance, Josh could see that Shaer wasn’t the key; the Archmage Hill, continuously smiling and weaving through the center, clearly was.

Moreover, after a brief conversation with Lansendel, their Lord of Dawn mentioned the Archmage’s name several times; Josh certainly understood the Archmage’s position in their Main God’s heart.

Yet... Josh was puzzled... How was such a young Archmage nurtured?

Even for an innate Level 20 Divine Child, to reach a mage level of over Level 20, it would likely take hundreds of years, assuming exceptional talents.

However, at first glance, Josh could tell Hill certainly hadn’t reached the 200-year-old mark when a Divine Child ventures beyond home.

But Hill had already befriended Lansendel!

Though their Main God makes friends easily, he is ultimately a powerful divine being, looking down on those lacking strength.

Sometimes, overly cautious actions suggest a form of disdain... knowing the other party can’t bear it, so he restrains himself.

But for Lansendel, occasional restraint is acceptable; doing it frequently, he doesn’t desire.

Why should a powerful divine being endure self-deprivation?

Therefore, those friends appear briefly on the resting branches of the Sun Peacock, gone without a trace as they fly away.

Unless the other party possesses strength and confidence to converse with Lansendel normally while remembered.

However, when Lansendel faced this Archmage Hill, he clearly adopted a more equal attitude, without needing to curb his power or temper.

When did the Multiverse produce such a character?

He’s only been away for a hundred years, how did the world suddenly change so much?

Josh kind of wants to build the Dawn Tower quickly.

Not being able to go home is one thing, but knowing nothing is not acceptable.

”Honorable Lord of Dawn, good day. I am Russell.”

”Honorable Lord of Dawn, good day. I am Carpenter.”

Lansendel flapped his wings and nodded at them: ”Ah, Hill’s students, don’t think all my followers are like Josh, who doesn’t care about anything.

The others will manage things a little.

Moreover, even Josh can grasp the essentials.

You’ll understand if you have a good chat.

Sometimes, those with strong enough strength only need to grasp the fundamentals and don’t need to worry about all the messy stuff...

Why are you looking at me like that, Shaer!”

”I want to see how long you can boast,” Shaer sneered, ”If you truly think that, why didn’t you withdraw that guy from Deepwater City?”

”Huh? Hmm...” Lansendel flapped his wings, ”But for the people of this world, Josh is definitely more suitable than Gendilarei!

I never intended to establish my own territory in this world.”

Russell shook his head, feeling that his thoughts were all messed up by the conversation between the two... Are the Goddess of the Night and the Lord of Dawn talking about the same thing?

Hill chuckled: ”Lansendel, weren’t you going to reward Josh?

Quickly give it to him, and then have List arrange for him to rest.

After all these years, Josh must be exhausted. It will be better once the Dawn Tower is built.”

Prompted by him, Lansendel immediately pointed to the huge tray beside him with one claw: ”Josh, this is yours.

I’ve given you two Dawn Stones.

Keep the purer one with you.

The large orb, place it on the Dawn Tower.

Remember to wear this robe when you go out, I mean in the Stellar Realm.”

Josh had no objections to the last two... Dawn Stones are essential items for the Dawn Tower.

And when their Main God shows appreciation for a favored follower, he always gifts a Robe of Dawn... Although not handcrafted by the Main God, the threads are condensed from the Light of Dawn by Lansendel himself.

So, for a follower, this is the highest honor... and very useful, at least allowing them to save their lives three times.

But what is that particularly transparent little light orb?

Although Lansendel said that it was a purer Dawn Stone, as an old Dawn Believer, Josh entirely didn’t believe it was the same thing.

Probably their Lord of Dawn learned something from elsewhere and didn’t know what to name it, so he simply covered it all with one name.

Lansendel looked at the puzzled little eyes of his follower and sighed helplessly... Even Josh couldn’t be fooled!

But he didn’t want to say much either~

The Great Peacock’s eyes lit up, flapping its wings: ”List!”

The Tower Spirit elegantly floated beside him, asking with a proper attitude: ”Honorable Lord of Dawn, what can I do for you?”

”Take Josh to the room to rest. By the way, tell him about recent events.” Lansendel raised his head and spoke with great pride, ”Especially about my deal with the Styx.”

Of course, List agreed wholeheartedly, and took Russell and Carpenter along with him.

”Hill really is a good teacher, isn’t he?” Shaer suddenly said thoughtfully.

If at first, when Josh saw those two kids, he merely regarded them as appendages of their Lord God’s friends, then after being kicked out together as troubles by their Lord God, and listening to List’s long speeches together, and then staying in the same place for some time of daily interaction, building their Magic Tower together... Shaer believed that with Josh’s typical temperament as a Dawn Messenger, he would surely enlist Russell to lend a hand during the Magic Tower’s construction, and naturally, he would also lend Russell a hand.

By the end of it all, however you put it, they would have developed some bond.

Doing things solely because of a Main God’s orders and doing them because one also personally wants to may not be vastly different, but they’re certainly distinct.

People like Shaer can of course see through this.

Lansendel may not be oblivious either, but he’s happy to see this outcome.

Hill couldn’t help but smile slightly: ”It’s because they’re Lansendel’s followers that I would do so.”

The Great Peacock nodded contentedly: ”Of course, between Hill and me, we don’t need such clear distinctions.”

Shaar slightly pouted: But she also understood that if it were her Chosen people, even the most simple-minded Hydra, Hill wouldn’t let his students stay with them.

That’s not even about whether they would be tricked... they would absolutely be, but it wouldn’t involve playing with their lives.
