Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1198: Chapter 989: The Elusive God of Prophecy

“Ah… Edna is truly remarkable,” Leonard remarked as he watched Edna, “Truly worthy of being groomed as a governor! She really understands well.”

Edna’s mouth twitched slightly: “Being praised by you in this regard doesn’t make one feel happy.”

Leonard smirked: “At least I’m better than Luca, right?”

Luca, whose name was mentioned, was startled: “What? What? Why are you discussing me instead of watching the fight?”

“How’s the fight going?” Nasir asked.

“Ah… Continuous fear magic spells, seems like it’s clearing the field. Huh?” Luca had just replied when Devis knocked him on the head.

“Don’t tease him,” Devis said, frustrated, “He’s already foolish enough.”

Luca, slow to react, finally realized that the fear magic had been continuously cast on the field. The three Chosen on the platform were waiting to make their move after the field was cleared. Those without abilities didn’t dare to venture outside… After all, no one knew if an enemy’s forces were waiting outside, but since they were already at the wall, the big shots at the front couldn’t outrun them to the sides.

And those with considerable capabilities weren’t spreading out from fear, but because no one intended to help Kelben ward off disaster.

So they didn’t mind the small fry standing at the back. Although not many ran off with sofas, at least they managed to grab a few chairs to sit on.

The scene, which seemed chaotic, was actually under control, thus allowing a few to leisurely chat.

Only he was keenly watching that guy hurling fear magic spells everywhere with his hand transformed into a dragon’s claw.

Luca awkwardly smiled and looked seriously ahead: “Ah… Looks like his magic slots have run out. Time for the claws!”

Kelben’s icy voice rang out: “Let me handle it.”

Xinbu couldn’t help but laugh: “Choosing a dragon lich was to deal with you, right? Even wearing equipment with full magic resistance… Ah, perfectly stacked to 35 layers of magic resistance, plus the lich’s inherent three layers, how will you face this?”

“Hehehe~” The man below the skeleton dragon’s head let out a hoarse laugh, “Of course, he can confront me, but he’ll have to use the half-elf power he publicly abandoned!

Hahaha~

Kelben, Kelben ‘Black Staff’ Orlun, ah, not quite!

Are you even worthy of being called the son of Orlun? You’re not even a ‘Buxin’, just a ‘Zenar’!”

“Who are you?” Kelben waved the black scepter in his hand furiously, “A student of The Inkanistam? A Mis Zhunuo remnant?

Why oppose me!”

“What are those?” Luca tilted his head and asked.

“I only know The Inkanistam was a Mage Academy of Mis Zhunuo in the past, as for those other names…” Devis looked at Leonard.

The Half-Elf Mage’s expression wasn’t pleasant, “‘Buxin’ means young human male, a relatively polite term in elf lands, while ‘Zenar’ means ‘less than half’, generally a derogatory term used by elf nobility for humans born to half-elf parents.

This one wearing the Crown of the Fallen Dragon must be a half-elf of noble descent from Mis Zhunuo, so he won’t use the filthiest terms. If he uses ‘Bir’, it must mean commoner origin.”

Edna couldn’t help but glance at Leonard… His father had probably been cursed this way too.

Leonard’s elf features were more prominent, but his mother being exiled from Eternity Island only proved that his father probably had just a quarter-elven bloodline, much like Kelben, looking more human.

The Elf Mages of the Tower of Nature, although they also shunned half-elves, would never curse outright… Humans are also part of nature; they can dislike but not harbor excessive hatred.

Gendilarei was a bit curious: “Why do Mis Zhunuo remnants hate Kelben so much… The first time this guy died, it was to save elf refugees from another city.

Although mainly because the escort was his father Orlun, at least… he truly sacrificed his life to save others.

Otherwise, the previous Mystra wouldn’t have chosen to resurrect him.”

Leonard said blandly, “Orlun’s second wife was an elf noble from Aevraestar. At that time, the fleeing refugee team was being pursued by the Felin Magic Mallow.

If not for Kelben and his father’s brave sacrifice, Aevraestar’s Sword probably wouldn’t have been able to save the remaining elves in time.

Because of this, the Supreme Forest always had good relations with Deepwater City, until a few years ago when they completely severed ties.

Even Eternity Island had rare exchanges with Kelben, not even rejecting dimensional gates from the Black Staff Tower.

However, all this ended because he sought to become a Lesser God under Mystra.”

“That’s pretty normal.” Nasir said with a mischievous smile, “With Visaron already playing both sides, adding Kelben, who can Mystra really trust?

Safras?”

“Hmm?” Nasir suddenly exclaimed in surprise, “Then… Safras should be quite pleased.

With Azuth gone, neither Kelben nor Visaron can fully win Mystra’s trust.

If we also cut the ties between Kranvo and Mystra… tsk tsk!

The ones who failed to win over Black Eye alongside Azuth might just go all in this time!”

Edna quietly gazed at him, “Why do you always think about those kinds of relationships?”

“But to a normal person… wouldn’t involve Kranvo when dealing with Mystra!” Nasir defensively said, “Just tell me if my thoughts aren’t spot on?”

“I think, Shaer… even if you choose a human male as your Chosen, William wouldn’t have any objections.” Celene muttered under the silver moonlight, “Why have I never thought of this direction before?”

Hill leaned back in his lounge chair, secretly taking a deep breath… If we consider the history that has been entirely changed, it really isn’t much different from Nasir’s words!

Mystra, who has forsaken emotions, Kranvo trapped in the Styx, Azuth devoured by the Lord of Devils, and Kelben, who, although eventually becoming a Demigod, just like Visaron, was never fully utilized for various reasons.

Only Safras, who always remained with the Weave, became the chief aide to the returning Mystra… He wouldn’t care much about how “Midnight’s” soul is, the more Mystra resembles Black Eye, the better, right?

Tsk tsk~ This is truly… nothing more to say.

The God of Prophecy shouldn’t exist, indeed!

As for why the Half-Elf Mage with clear ties to the Great Nobility of Mis Zhunuo would rather risk losing casting abilities: The Crown of the Fallen Dragon can only be used by Mages, but once worn, they can only use Fear Magic and no other spells.

However, for Mages who currently don’t dare to use Ninth Ring Spells often, this subartifact that offers strength and resilience akin to an Ancient Dragon, comes with a spell attack offset, and very high magic resistance, is indeed a hassle.

Everyone involved or observing the Haber battle, the mortals and gods, all know… any great noble from that place, their ancestral graves are probably dug up.

Moreover, for some Half-Elves from Mis Zhunuo, it’s quite possible that the ones being ground to dust are their own parents… Few things are more vengeful than this.

But the Haber Family has already been wiped out completely, naturally, the hatred falls onto Kelben, who allowed this family to survive for over a thousand years.

Maybe they wouldn’t hate him as much, given Kelben’s own ancestral graves are definitely dug up as well… but who asked this guy to publicly declare he no longer belongs to the Elves!

As long as someone… some god makes the connection for a crazy descendant of Mis Zhunuo, slightly blurring the sequence of events, making them believe that this happened because Kelben wanted to show his determination, thus he allowed the Haber Family, who ostensibly respected his wishes, to do such vile acts.

Even with a hundred mouths, Kelben couldn’t explain this away, after all, this family could survive such a dangerous millennia due to his protection… How could he not know what the strongest of the Haber Family were up to?

Kelben indeed isn’t without fault, he might not know about the High Knowledge Stone, but he certainly knew of the Haber Family’s ties with both demons and devils.

Yet just like before, for certain benefits, he was even willing to secretly collaborate with the Santalin Meeting under Bane, and this time he chose to shelter the evil of the Haber Family for a greater benefit.

As long as he doesn’t participate, he’s not evil… thinking he devised a great plan, yet the Haber Family never agreed to such non-interference.

Understanding all this, Edna laughed softly, “So this is what ‘raising a tiger invites calamity’ truly means!”

“What?” Devis turned his sensitive head to look at her.

Edna laughed, “I’m not talking about your guards, it’s an Undead Tribe saying.” she casually explained the meaning of these words.

The crazed Half-Elf from Mis Zhunuo completely ignored Kelben’s repeated inquiries, only launching fierce attacks with its claws.

The Black Staff could only defend, but facing such a fast enemy, nearly rivaling a Black Dragon, it really struggled.

After all, he’d feel quite embarrassed buffing himself in front of so many, and then counter-attacking with Elven Swordsmanship.

Elaströ and Xinbu, though unaware of the reason, also noticed this was a private feud amongst Mis Zhunuo descendants… unless Kelben asked for help, according to the rules of Toril, even if they are Magic Electors, the two of them shouldn’t step in… but if Kelben was truly on the brink of death, they also couldn’t stand by!

The sisters looked at each other, both somewhat puzzled why this unknown enemy bore such a persistent grudge against Kelben, yet always used means not enough to take his life.

It’s as if they simply want Kelben to lose reputation and power… but don’t want him dead.

This is just like the machinations of those palace women… What kind of situation is this?
