Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1184: Chapter 975: Edna Boosted and Refreshed

Gendilarei was completely unmoved by the sarcastic words of the Night Cloak… he had been following Lansendel’s Chosen since the Dawn Calamity!

With such rhetoric, how could someone as battle-hardened as him take it to heart… as long as the attack wasn’t on Lansendel’s character, Gendilarei was fearless.

Of course, the main reason was that Lansendel had just instructed not to kill Shaer’s people… as a Chosen, he should ideally not be the first to make a move and beat someone; that would only confuse those below him more.

After all… after so many years of fighting, there are many who itch to act when seeing followers of the Night.

He was no exception, but having been through a lot, his endurance was a bit stronger, and this Nasir’s capability was a bit lacking, not enough to incite his fighting desire.

That Hydra would be more likely.

Gendilarei said with a solemn expression, “Ah, what could be more wonderful for the Lord of Dawn than entering my Lord’s Divine Kingdom?

Someone like you cannot understand; only in my Lord’s Divine Kingdom is there eternity.”

Ai… couldn’t bear it… Edna whispered softly, “Lansendel’s Divine Kingdom is indeed quite interesting, given the large crowds, and they all like to have fun.

On Heavenly Mountain, it’s the only place where there are fireworks shows every day.”

Gendilarei’s face was calm, “Indeed! So lively. My lord must be very happy.”

Even the two mages hiding by the window couldn’t help but look at him… is having a face thicker than the skin of the Platinum Dragon God, adorned with countless precious metals and gemstones, the primary requirement to be a Chosen of the Lord of Dawn?

“Hehe…” Edna decided to give up tugging at Lansendel’s Chosen, feeling she was still too young… however, after walking this Path of Destiny, the young girl felt she would definitely be able to match Gendilarei, and perhaps even stand shoulder to shoulder with his master.

With clear understanding, Edna deftly changed the subject: “Regarding the matter of Harua, we received news quite early, only knowing that for some reason, Shaer’s Shadow Weave has been rapidly developing there.

But… wasn’t the Shadow Weave reintegrated into the Weave? Why didn’t those followers return?

I remember, compared to the Lady of the Night, they were more willing to pursue the Shadow Weave.”

Then Edna regretted it.

What Gendilarei said with a grin almost made her explode with anger.

“If that Mystra was still stuck in the old ways, it wouldn’t be surprising if Harua turned from a Magic Kingdom to a Demon Kingdom in the end.” He shrugged, “The mages of Harua have a knack for doing bad things, even Amanata, eager for followers after his resurrection, wouldn’t want them.

But they also don’t want to follow a Goddess of Magic who always wants them to walk into the sunlight.

Harua was a country where the winner is king; in their hearts, being already powerful mages, having to follow the same rules as those lower-class people and not getting any benefits would be a nightmare.

However, I don’t think they’re foolish enough to really collaborate with devils, after all, how Mystra will develop is uncertain, isn’t it?

But this Miss Saint seems to be everything the Archmages of Harua hope for in Mystra.

Perhaps they hope she learns how to be adaptable.”

Edna pulled a glass of iced lemon mint water from her bracelet, holding it with both hands as she drank silently… it was quite strong, but it was refreshing, and most importantly… it lowered her temper.

She finally pulled herself out of her thoughts always centered around Cyric, and for the first time realized there were also devils involved.

Edna looked up at Lansendel’s Chosen, it seemed that although the Lord of Dawn loved excitement, he was indeed sincere… she had no idea about Harua’s entanglement with devils.

Although… Midnight’s judgment of people, matters, and even national powers, Edna now only dared to believe half of it, but her grasp on the Weave was still decent.

In Harua, where most were Weave Mages, any loopholes would be known to Midnight… but as someone in the kind alignment, she inherently disliked those lawless individuals.

So she felt nothing about their choice to follow the Shadow Weave, nor did she have any desire to bring them back.

Midnight honestly had her own thoughts… she hoped the mages in the kind and neutral factions would continue using her Weave, while the malicious ones would follow Shaer’s Shadow Weave… this way, her faction wouldn’t have to shift.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t want to replace Azuth, who always persuaded her to change to Lawful Neutral, with Kelben, who was willing to keep his alignment at Neutral Good.

Edna could understand her pursuit, after all, they shared some parts of the soul, and Midnight, having lost too much, was stubbornly wanting to hold onto her last bit of belief; every time Edna recalled this, she could empathize with it deeply.

But… Midnight overlooked the most important thing… she was merely a gatekeeper, but she was treating the treasure she guarded as her own.

Not to mention her casual actions, she even planned to split the treasure, discarding the parts she didn’t like… how could the true owner of the treasure not be furious?

She was not the original Mystree, who was almost the embodiment of the Weave.

Nor was she the unfortunate Black Eye Mystra, who had resonated with the Weave for so long, with her soul anchoring on Toril.

She was just a High-Level Part-Time Worker, fortunate enough to obtain a work permit… once she made a mistake, she could be kicked out at any time.

Even if the cost was high, there’s no hesitation in removing her if needed.

When Black Eye fell, Toril certainly didn’t recover as easily as this time… Back then, those Chosen who helped stabilize the Weave also existed, but AO had to come out personally to restore the world to normal.

But this time, he didn’t even show his face.

Perhaps that old guy wants to give Cyric a little reward!

A guardian like Midnight, who is rebellious and wants to stir up trouble, even if her henchman overdid it teaching her a lesson, it’s not that big of a deal, is it?

Hmph~ Edna expressionlessly gulped down another mouthful of peppermint water… those old, undead bastards!

Although she knew Midnight did many things wrong… that excessively radical style really gave people a headache, but that doesn’t mean AO is correct.

No wonder Toril doesn’t have any proper gods… including those two crazy daughters of the undead old man.

The way Midnight did things, wasn’t it just giving the Shadow Weave more power?

Why was Shaer so keen on getting rid of her?

Truly an incomprehensible mentality.

Edna couldn’t help but turn her head to look at Agleya in the North… she had many questions, hoping that by the end of this Path of Destiny, they would turn into periods… not exclamation marks, she’s already endured enough.

“Wait…” Leonard, who had been puzzled at the side, asked the question Edna least wanted to hear, “What you’re saying is as good as saying that girl has issues, huh?

No wonder at eight years old she speaks like an 800-year-old granny.

Is it only you who knows, or can everyone see it?

But… if everyone can see it… how could Kelben be deceived?”

“Hmm…” Gendilarei’s mouth twitched slightly, “So far, only I should know.

The Dawn Stone told me that this lady carries a black-red mist.

But anyone with normal intelligence wouldn’t think such an obvious lady could be her… how could she possibly have the surname Manske?

Back in the day, Lady Midnight was adopted by a teacher, was she not? She took the teacher’s surname!

But when that little girl speaks about the past, she looks utterly confused, claiming she was raised by the old priest Harua since childhood… and she always mentions her middle name, seemingly hinting that her real surname is Victoria.

Tsk tsk… it’s truly hard to judge!”

Though everything that needed to be said was said, this Chosen of the Lord of Dawn did not make any definitive statements… no wonder they survived the Dawn Calamity, very adept at avoiding all unknown risks.

As for her teammate… Edna took a look at the pot-starting Leonard and sighed gently… she didn’t want to discuss Manske at all, only to inquire about Harua.

After all, there’s no point in acting clueless now; later on… isn’t she going to be remembered here for playing dumb?

Moreover, there are all sorts of people circling around Manske, do they all just believe the identity of that little girl?

No way!

They all gather for the benefits… even if her identity is dubious, she can still bring sufficient benefits.

Kelben had to accept Miss Saint even if he wasn’t 100% sure, wasn’t it because he always maintained the image of being the most loyal to Mystra?

Admitting a mistake can still be explained… but denying and then finding out it’s true, would be enough to send him straight to Hell.

Who’s to blame for him always frantically looking for people… even his nominal nephew went off to have kids, who doesn’t know what he wants to do.

That action of sending Miss Manske over by the old priest Harua really hit his weak spot.

That old priest, who was contemporaneous with Elminster, might not have been unaware of the questionability of this little girl’s identity, nor necessarily planning to betray Mystra, yet she still pulled such a shady move.

It shows that all these old followers of the Goddess of Magic are extremely dissatisfied with Kelben… good things never find him, but bad things certainly do.

Edna, with an unbothered smile and a relaxed demeanor, caused Gendilarei, who had been observing her secretly, to put down his doubts… if this lady were truly that Midnight, how could she be so detached, as if it had nothing to do with her!

Their Main God should be watching something else for entertainment… unfortunately, he couldn’t see it yet.

“Lansendel.” The few people from the Floating Castle also sensed his probing, and Celene said with a mischievous smile, “No wonder nothing has ever happened at your Holy Temple in Deepwater City!

That guy’s instincts are really sharp.”

The Sun Peacock flapped its wings and chuckled: “He’s lived a long time! The one and only~”
