Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1176: Chapter 967: Edna Who Feels So Poor

List naturally understood what Hill wanted… his master’s collecting habit had been triggered.

Otherwise, if these books went to Candlekeep, there wouldn’t be an issue; with such ancient knowledge, someone would definitely handwrite a copy and send it to him… on the Ferun Great Land, is there anyone who pays more readily than Hill?

What Hill wants now is the kind handwritten by this young lady.

So if the books in Edna’s hands don’t have backups, it would be best to collect them all… the former Mystra’s knowledge, the current Mystra’s manuscripts, could there be a better book collection?

He thought for a moment and placed some copies of castle books in the Strange Objects Shop… always have to leave Edna some tickets to Candlekeep.

Especially some ancient books that Fran brought back from the world of Aber, though the content is not very important, many of them record Toril, still in the darkness… there are quite a few stories about those Primordials who lived from creation until now.

Although he could only put out books describing the power of Shaer and Celene or their wars: there are several Primordials in Aber who curse the century-long war between these sisters.

These Primordials actually came to this folded space because they didn’t want to take sides between light and dark, so almost had their old home ransacked by dragons, often reminiscing about the good old days on Toril.

Although the authors of these books didn’t write so clearly, the wise ones could still see some deeds of these two ladies… Others might not feel much, but Edna would definitely want them.

After all, she is the one being observed.

Taking advantage of the time before that group of leisurely shopping girls reached the Strange Objects Shop, List added an inconspicuous yet guaranteed to attract mages room inside the store.

Originally, there was no need to be so cautious; after all, Hill’s Strange Objects Shop was always collecting books, just place the books that could be exchanged on the bookshelf behind the counter.

But List was worried that when Edna sold the books, someone else might discover their uniqueness… specifically referring to those from Silvermoon City who had been following the little girl persistently.

They currently know only that Edna’s identity is special, but if they found out that the young girl had been directly taught by Lady Black Eye… these followers of Elaströ would be well aware of the source of Silvermoon City’s power.

That person didn’t stay in Silvermoon City for long, but it was enough to establish a systematic spell heritage for the Mage Academy there.

And other mages, even if they wanted to make Silvermoon City a Mage Holy Land, couldn’t achieve such comprehensiveness… No matter how powerful a mage is, they have their focus, no one understands all spells.

Even Elminster couldn’t possibly know every aspect of necromancy… and as a benevolent archmage admired by humans, he wouldn’t openly research necromancy.

But Black Eye was different.

She was the Goddess of Magic, which meant that creating any kind of spell heritage was nothing unexpected… she indeed dabbled in every school of magic and publicly stated that even darker spells could be researched as long as they weren’t used to maliciously harm others.

Otherwise, as the second Mystra, Black Eye wouldn’t have snatched so many archmages who revere darkness back from the Shadow Weave.

Moreover, the Weave developed most powerfully in her hands… it was so strong that this very shrewd Lady Black Eye had to create many Chosen to divide her power, lest she become a great divine power with nothing but strength.

Great power easily makes people lose their reason, become arrogant and conceited… even after doing so much, at the end, Black Eye was still overwhelmed by that feeling of invincibility, insisting on challenging Heim as a saint and finally being cut down.

Of course, she didn’t completely lose her reason… Mystra just underestimated Heim, believing he definitely wouldn’t dare to harm her mercilessly… she didn’t expect that because of the unfortunate passing of his beloved during the Dawn Calamity, Heim was filled with fury against these wanton and powerful forces.

Black Eye’s elimination was truly a convergence of all favorable conditions… no surprise she didn’t survive.

List didn’t mind letting people know Agleya had an archmage who had been wholeheartedly taught by Mystra, but that would be best later… it wouldn’t take long, reaching Deepwater City would be fine.

Too long and it would be meaningless, he estimated that even Shaer and Celene couldn’t determine how long the secret would stay hidden.

At least while Edna is in Agleya City, there’ll be fewer troubles.

Getting involved with this lady could very likely turn a gentle breeze and light rain into a bloody storm.

He understood Hill’s thoughts very well… enjoying the spectacle is delightful, but preferably not as a participant in the fun.

However… List silently gazed at the group of girls about to push open the door of the Strange Objects Shop… Edna seemed to hope that her identity would remain hidden for as long as possible!

Whether to make her journey a bit smoother or to observe the performance of Toril’s magic net followers, or even to find some amusement for herself, it all conveyed a bizarre style.

This was unlike the usual open and straightforward manner of Lady Midnight, who did whatever she wanted whenever she wanted.

Should it be said… it’s only fitting that a girl grew up healthily under the care of the Undead Tribe and elves?

Edna, like a group of undead girls, always chose the jewelry counter as her first stop in the Strange Objects Shop.

Though she had grown accustomed to the endlessly emerging beautiful accessories of the Undead Tribe, the products from the Hill Shop still captivated her for a long time… unfortunately, at that time, she didn’t have enough money to afford them.

Edna always felt that her decision to listen to Elvia’s coaxing and charge tolls on both sides of the Hidden Town was first sparked when she followed behind Sanda King and her friends on a shopping trip to Agleya City and was hit hard by her own poverty.

She always thought there was no problem with her father categorizing and unlocking the storage space in her bracelet… At that time, if she got too much money or goods, she definitely couldn’t hide it in front of Sharol.

But… how should I put it… she knew very well that, despite having money, she had to endure the feeling of poverty—how tragic this felt~

Her pride wouldn’t allow her to accept gifts from Sanda King and her friends.

Edna rubbed her hands… She’s already an official Eighth Ring Mage! The space in her bracelet is now fully unlocked!

Edna is now a little rich lady with 300,000 gold coins and thousands of gemstones!

Then her smile quickly vanished… She immediately fell in love with the purple jade set in the top showcase of the Strange Objects counter, but… 500,000!

Edna was instantly dejected.

She couldn’t figure out how this Lord Hill made such powerful yet exquisitely beautiful jewelry… The Starry Sky Dazzling Eyes, such a beautiful name, such an expensive price.

“Edna?” ‘Old Age Striking King’ asked with a bewildered look, “You weren’t eyeing that Starry Sky set, were you?

Ah~ It’s really beautiful, but unfortunately, I don’t have the money for it.”

Edna tilted her head: “Eh? Didn’t you just buy a 200,000-gold Dragon Saddle last time!”

“This 500,000-gold High Grade Magic Item Set updates periodically, and each set is unique.” The ever-yawning ‘Cunlü’ trailing behind them said slowly, “She already bought a set of angelic skin in pink and white coral, which exhausted her budget.

Seriously, these rich ladies never give us poor folks a chance to admire them.

The store treasures should at least let us take a look, right~

As a result, several rich ladies come by to shop a few rounds and directly take them all.

Especially a set of Flame Agate, said to be exceptionally beautiful, was gone by the same day, I didn’t even get to see it! Tsk tsk.”

Edna knew that ‘Old Age Striking King’ always set a spending limit for herself when buying luxury goods, how much per month, how much per year, and once it exceeded, she’d squeeze it from her pocket money for the next month or even the next year.

But she was a little surprised to hear ‘Cunlü’ claim she was poor.

‘Old Age Striking King’ said indifferently: “Ignore Cunlü. Her bills are now managed by her old lady… That’s the price of having to seek parental help when you can’t control your kids.

Haven’t you noticed? She and ‘Hard Wind’ seldom come to Toril together lately? It’s because her mom is holding them back, insisting that one of them must be with the child when they’re at home.”

“Why do you have the nerve to speak about me?” ‘Cunlü’ said coldly, “As if it wasn’t you who was chased by your mom from the top floor to the garden downstairs?”

“Eh heh heh~” ‘Old Age Striking King’ replied proudly, “I had separated the household card and my salary card before inviting my mom over~ Two-thirds are for household use, the rest is for me to play with.

Unlike you, fool, handing over your salary card.

Tsk tsk, the two of you can only live off that bit of Hard Wind’s pocket money, how bleak~”

“Eh?” Edna was a little confused, “I remember you guys saying that Hard Wind has a job!”

“Hard Wind’s card~ Ha ha~” ‘Old Age Striking King’ suddenly burst out laughing, “Cunlü set up an installment deposit for her, every time the payment arrived, besides transferring an amount equal to her salary into their joint account, everything else gets turned into a term deposit… grandly named the children’s education fund.

Only a little spare change is left for Hard Wind’s pocket money.

Now, this bit of pocket money is their lifeline~

That’s what happens when Cunlü is lazy enough to only use one card~

Ah ha ha ha~”

‘Cunlü’, being mocked, was helpless: “Actually, when I spend money, my mom wouldn’t say anything… As long as in her eyes, it’s a necessary expense, even if it’s snacks or meals out and traveling, it’s fine.

But… exchanging it to gold coins from Toril is definitely beyond her comprehension, what can I do about it?”

Edna observed her friend’s tired face, yet for some reason, she suddenly felt a tinge of envy, a bit of confusion, and quite a bit of grievance: So that’s what a family life among the Undead is like!
