Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1156: Chapter 948: Let’s Change the Subject~

The arrival of the Shadow Valley mages seemed like a fuse; almost two hours later, newcomers arrived at the harpist building across from the inn.

Then, these harpists took the mages from Shadow Valley to find the Elven City Guard patrolling the roads, hoping they could visit Municipal Officer Lynn, and even better if they could receive an audience with Lord Hill.

Lynn quickly invited these visitors to his municipal hall… after all, they brought official letters from Elaströ and the visible leader of Shadow Valley, Mon Green Amkatra.

However, when speaking with these people, Lynn sensed something different from the past.

When they mentioned Hill, their tone was as respectful as possible… previously, as the Lord of Agleya, due to his overly neutral attitude, even though he was exceptionally powerful and Laila’s lord, these Mistrala electors did not feel it necessary to establish a deeper friendship with him.

After all, although Hill has always been gentle, seemingly only discontent with Kelben, the undead tribe he brought, and Coron behind him, have never shown much respect to Mystra.

So, forces in northern Ferun led by Mistrala electors have kept a respectful distance from Agleya City, even though Laila became the municipal officer of Luskan too.

But all the cold self-restrain turned into a gentle spring stream under the repeated mention of Hill by the three mighty divine powers… even if it were Mystra herself, she would not speak ill of the Lord of Agleya.

Shaer plus Celene were enough to make the Goddess of Magic automatically choose to retreat… even when Shaer used to trouble her in all sorts of ways, no Mystra had ever chosen to openly confront the Lady of the Night.

Including Midnight, who posed as extremely intolerant of evil, she has always declared that she would not tolerate Shaer’s motive to annihilate the world and would certainly stop the Dark Night followers from causing chaos in Toril. However, like the declaration against Cyric, announcing to hunt him down for eternity and urging her followers to extirpate the Dark Sun followers with all efforts, was something she never let slip.

Lynn, ever quick to respond, saw through the respectful attitude shown by these two groups of mages and the cautious conduct exhibited when no mages from the evil faction were sent forth… Elaströ and Hillen never held their subordinates to as high standards as Hill.

They actually did not care what their subordinates did in private, as long as they did not openly violate the laws and regulations of the territory.

Secretly observing… Silvermoon City’s Elaströ was understandable enough; that lady’s meticulous manner has always been thorough, and choosing to dispatch mages from the harpist alliance in Silvermoon City was quite normal.

Yet, even Shadow Valley, usually more capricious in conduct, chose to respect the Lord of Agleya’s distinct style, even with the guards accompanying the mages being meticulously selected, which was somewhat surprising.

While Lynn greeted these outside guests with a smile, he couldn’t help but be slightly tongue-tied… Hill, who had always been shunned by Toril’s mainstream mage society, now if he wishes, could likely find willing friends to converse with at any time.

Hill probably never pondered why such a powerful mage as himself, has barely any mages in Toril interested in unveiling the mysteries of magic with him… in the mage community, a figure like him imposing such high alignment demands was truly unimaginable.

Even mages from the kind alignment have numerous friends in the evil faction, including Sel’s Red Robes.

But Hill evidently held high expectations for the character and conduct of his friends and subordinates, his working style also indeed perplexed others; Toril people did not understand him, naturally leading them to avoid dealings with him.

Hill himself never felt any issue… Lynn never could comprehend how his friend developed such an eccentric personality, considering Mr. Fran was also used to enjoying noble privileges.

True, Hill lived very luxuriously, never diminishing his deserved entitlements in the slightest, yet all he benefited from was not sourced from the territory’s supply, but from his own ability.

Similarly, when it came to construction projects like building houses, he would do it himself; should anything be lacking, he would opt for alternatives… although such scenarios rarely arose, Lynn himself could not imagine a day when Hill would say something like, ‘Ah, Lynn, I want to renovate my castle, but I’m out of sapphires, should I switch to blue crystals?’

Regarding his friend’s wealth, Lynn had long lost the sentiment to probe… whether the Goddess of Wealth or the Platinum Dragon God, upon seeing Hill’s warehouse, would either flee covering their face or be envious to the point of robbery.

Matters in Agleya have never been concealed, thus it is certain the people of Toril knew… this is a place where the lord builds his own houses while the people just need to stand by and watch.

Where in Toril does one find such a good lord? Even a mage would not allow such a scenario… even if it’s just having the people dig some earth, they wouldn’t let ordinary people just watch them work!

Therefore, although Hill always felt he demanded much from his people, the residents of Agleya City continued to grow… for ordinary people lacking the means to resist, as long as they uphold goodness, adhere to the law, they can live peacefully and contentedly, ensuring their family’s safety without a care; could there be a more perfect life?

Speaking of which, in Northern Ferun, another place where ordinary, kind individuals can live fairly well is the land ruled by the Golden Dragon and Silver Dragon couple in the North… but the biggest flaw of that couple is not understanding that ordinary people need protection; in their eyes, the weakest beings are probably the young white dragons, right?

They merely prevent strong evil factions from appearing in their territory, but would never hunt powerful beasts or establish human cities there… which means only professionals can live there.

If not for the treacherous paths of Ferun Great Land, Agleya City might soon see its surrounding villages fully populated.

Ordinary people just wish for a place to live.

“Mr. Lynn.” A middle-aged mage with a harpist crest hanging on the chest of his robe, along with a round emblem of seven stars forming a ring with red mist flowing from within… that was the holy emblem of Mystra… respectfully asked, “Would we be honored to have an audience with the Lord of Agleya?”

“Mr. Yuriko Yaro.” Lynn, with a smile, replied, “Though it might sound like boasting, I have already inquired Hill, and he allows me to speak candidly.

Currently, although Hill is staying in the floating castle, the guests in the castle leave him no time to meet any humans.

Even if Elaströ came personally, it would be the same.”

A slight ripple appeared on Yuriko Yaro’s calm face; he flashed a meaningful smile, approached Lynn, and lowered his voice, “Ah… could it be, those three are still there?

This is truly startling!

Only world destruction would… ah, the world indeed went through a destruction once.

But how was this achieved?”

Lynn, carelessly smiled, “After all, Hill is from another world, having no conflicts with any deities, possessing decent strength, and a mild demeanor, it’s normal for him to befriend others.

Things that annoy him, besides Demon Lords and Bane, seem to only be the Tower Master of the Tower of the Black Staff!

Even Volkin, whom he clashed with several times, didn’t quite incite his aversion.”

Yuriko Yaro gave Lynn a look, taking a slight step back, “Archmage Kelben indeed acted somewhat hastily, but with no malintent.

If some misunderstandings can be resolved, Lady Elaströ is more than willing to assist in this matter.”

“Lady Hillen shares this view, if necessary, the Twisted Tower could lend a hand too.”, said a middle-aged female mage clad in silver robes, standing behind Yaro in a soft voice.

Lynn glanced at her, “In Hill’s study, there’s a Deepwater City chronicle with a Deck of Many Things slotted in it.

It was an unexpected surprise he got during his first visit to Deepwater City… before this card is drawn, there’s no need to discuss certain matters.”

List had already explained Hill’s stance to Lynn before these people arrived.

Although Hill generally has a good temperament, he never forgives people who lay hands on him lightly… no matter how many times he has retaliated, as long as he sees that card, Hill will absolutely have no interaction with Kelben.

The one who struck first, wanting to retract, still needs to see if Hill is willing.

Yaro, whose eyes had always been agilely revolving, suddenly froze… whether the harpists or other Mistrala elector forces, all thought the Lord of Agleya’s hostility toward Kelben stemmed from that guy’s harm to the elves.

They truly didn’t know such matters… first visit to Deepwater City?

Wasn’t that when the Undead Swamp was still around?

Before his house was even built, Kelben had already struck from the shadows?

With a heavy swipe across his own face, Yaro said, “Mr. Lynn, can you pretend I never said what I did earlier?

Can we proceed to the next topic?”

The Shadow Valley female mage also chuckled softly, “Miss Edna seems well taught! Although I only chatted with that Mr. Devis from Quel Senta for a few words, it was quite apparent that Miss Edna’s control power was very commendable.”
